Ever have that moment when playing a video game, you make a decision, knowing full well in advance you are going to start regretting it?
Well, I am having that moment right now. Playing Fire Emblem Awakening for the first time, and never really having playing Fire Emblem before, I am setting the difficulty to Lunatic, and playing it on Classic mode.

Do not do this. I am serious. Even if you have played an FE game before, I wouldn't recommend starting above Hard. If you don't know about the new mechanics (specifically, how Pair Up works and how it differs from the old Rescue system), you will not make it out of the first Chapter. You probably won't make it past the first turn.
Start at Normal. It will still be a challenge for you, especially if you've never played an FE game.

I was essentailly able to clear the prologue...
With one death.
I am now playing on hard. :p
I'm giving myself up to chapter 3 to where I will restart the map if I lose someone, but I've pretty much got down the Pair Up system, the Rock/Paper/Scissors style combat, magic, and archery already. It's all pretty damn simple actually. :p

It is. The game is beautifully elegant in its design.
That doesn't mean that it isn't hard as hell when it wants to be. Lunatic throws you up against enemies with stats quite a bit higher than yours, and you need to know the systems, and how to apply them. How to read and manipulate attack ranges, when and who to Pair Up, when to play defensively and rely on Counters, and how to use your skills effectively. It takes knowledge, strategy, and some luck.
And when you beat it the game gives you Lunatic+ mode, which just says "Fair and balanced? What's that?". And don't get me started on Castle Apotheosis.
But you're having fun now, right?
Oh, and after Chapter Four, you can grind if you want to. DLCs, SpotPass units, and random monsters/Reeking Boxes.

I'm on chapter 3 right now, and it's pretty fun. Not playing to hardcore today as I just got off my 55 hours of Project XZone, and didn't really want to stare at a screen for half the day. :p
So far Fredrick is my favorite character.
I hate Krom's little sister though. I think if she dies on me, I'll be able to move forward with little remorse.

Don't be overly reliant on Frederick, he's a prepromoted unit and will get less EXP out of fights than other characters. Though he is awesome, and you'll probably use him a lot in Lunatic mode to survive until you can grind up stronger characters. Plus he has the awesome crit quote "Pick a god and pray!".
As for Lissa... Certain characters getting killed now will prevent other characters from being recruited later. That's all I can say without spoilers.

I figured something like that would be the case. :p
But again, after chapter 3 no more restarting battles even with a death.
And I've already heard that about Fredrick, I just like him for his character. :p
I loved the bit when talking with Krom and he speaks of getting the picture of Krom naked and hanging them up to boost morale. XD

My first time playing FE7 was pretty horrible.
I left some characters dead and didn't really think about talking with other characters so I only recruited people you normally get (and I couldn't really beat some of the levels without deaths occuring).
Had to restart, Vaida was impossible for me to kill =/

Okay, actual Fire Emblem thread now so this one can stay on topic, that is shit you did that you knew in advance you would regret doing, but did them anyway!
