View Full Version : Final Fantasy Larp: Would you?

I briefly considered joining a larp (it wasn't Final Fantasy) in a nearby city three months ago when I was lost on what to do with myself (actually, I'm still bored and have no idea what to do, but I'm too unsociable to associate with people in a Medieval setting).

Although I've never tried cosplaying (I'm unwilling to go out of my way to find clothes to that end), I think I try it if I were to take part in something like this. There are two types of LARP: free play in which every player is free to roam and socialize and advance at their leisure is the most typical. Then there are reenactments. I've only seen a few FF reenactments and they most usually seem to be parodies like the one showing Squall gradually adding members to his group and then running around in circles highlighting how ridiculous it was to watch in the game.

As the title suggests, discuss your take on the prospect of Final Fantasy-themed LARPing and say honestly whether you'd partake.

Oh, I don't know if I could play a game that was a reenactment of an existing Final Fantasy game. I'm decent at acting, though, so maybe I could do something if it wasn't very much costume-based or something.

No. Nope. Uh uh. I would -not- be involved in LARPing.

LARPing is where I draw the line in my nerdiness.

I'd be up for it but then when it came around to doing it I'd be socially awkward and hiding or trying to worm out of it for fear of embarassment

I absolutely would. Not reenactments, I don't see the point in that (I also never heard of it; what, is it like putting on an FF play or something?). But I have no shame about LARPing.

Hell fucking yes. Fantasy LARPs are kind of balls because you gotta fall down cause so and so cast Megaflare at you but nothing fucking happened in actual meatspace, but I would fight in a grand medieval battle no sweat.

I thought I responded here. I don't know how I feel about LARPing really. My dad suggested I try after watching an episode of Supernatural wherein Dean Winchester really got a kick out of it and he (my dad) assumed I'd be into that kind of a thing, my being a geek, but I never worked up the nerve to join one mostly because I have no confidence that I'd be able to uphold the social etiquette expected in these medieval-style things.

I'm pretty sure I'd be down for a full-on reenactment (if with some liberties, I would hope the point wasn't to be horribly strict over the storyline) of something from VI up. I entertain the fantasy of being an actor but I'm not a fan of adlib-style free acting which is something I expect of a high-school theatre troup. I prefer to know my direction and motivation before going in. I'm fairly sure I could faithfully portray any male character throughout the series (even the gay ones ever since I shirked my homophobia), hell, I could probably faithfully portray a monster and I know I could easily pull off a villain as that darkness is the place to where I retreat when I'm being otherwise socially awkward.

Absolutely not. I personally find LARPing cringeworthy.

This, just like everything else in my life.

Cosplay, though, hell yeah. I want to be Beatrix, even though I've only played a super tiny smidgeon of FFIX.

Hell yes, LARPing is totes fun and I'd do it. I'd prefer with original characters in an established setting, though.

I would not. It just doesn't much interest me. I'm not good at playing a character.

Only if I had been vegetative for 20 years, and upon my reawaking, people told me in earnest that this is how people socialise now. =\ I don't even tell people I play video games - so no. I don't even get cosplaying to be honest. Especially when you have people muffin toppin' whilst playing characters designed by the 'Japanese', who when they do go big, don't focus on the stomach. =\

Why not?

It's not like you're around people who are going to make fun of you. You're around like-minded people who just want to live in the moment and have some fun.

LARP'ing, no. I don't believe it would be entertaining enough for me...I just don't see the point, and I'd be too worried that the other people involved wouldn't take it seriously, or there'd be differences of opinion that would ruin it for everyone.

Now, a scripted play based on the story of Final Fantasy VI, that's a resounding yes.

Matter of fact, if I script and direct it, would anyone here act in it? I'm not kidding at all.

I love traditional roleplaying games, but LARP is kind of nothanks for me.

I don't actually have anything on topic to say, but sweet jesus this thread is like bot bait. It's getting positively infested by them.

Depends on who I was larping with, but if it was with the right people then HELL YES.
I've never been LARPing before so I think it would be quite a fun experience.

Final Fantasy re-enactments sound more like fun games of cosplay than live action roleplay. The free play sounds better, but once I start thinking about game mechanics, I start wanting to do my own system for a pen-and-paper first.

But, hey, if you like costumes, roleplaying, and Final Fantasy, I highly encourage you to participate and have fun with like-minded people!
