I forgot swear filters are enforced, not encourage here. Oh, artificial daddies, how funny you are. Swear filters, as a rule, suck, but I can accept them. What bothers me more is that we still use "smurf" as the replacement. I could have sworn people wanted profanity rainbow images. Or skulls. Or "trout". Weigh in, people; this is your community.

Edit: Poll input sucks; 100 characters is not enough to put in four skulls, Umaro's, or rainbows.

Smurf is just... the best. Smurfing hell!

Ahahahaha I like "smurf" a lot myself but if it ever gets replaced the rainbow has my vote.

Racism against blue people should be prohibited :colbert:

It'd require a lot of effort, but I'd be in favour of the kind of swear filter than parents have to use around their kids to express dismay but without turning the air blue. For years in my family 'sugar butties' became a sort of cleaned up version of... well, something less pleasant on a sandwich.

Has the added bonus of making the person look ridiculous, rather than a wannabe pirate ( :skull: ) or someone on a gay pride march (45183). Or an FFVI fan ( :bou: ) which, let's face it, will just make the person look more cool than they were before.

Smurf will never be replaced and I will personally see to it that trout is not, either.

Come up with a new word you want to be filtered, nerds. That or stop reviving this topic.

The OP seems like a bit of a smurfing pri-madonna.

Hoooo.

edit: Jokes aside I doubt it'll be changed now. I think people are used to seeing smurf and trout everywhere.

No matter what you do, don't use any fucking images. First, it disrupts the spacing between lines, and second, it looks extremely terrible if you turn off smileys in your posts. You get like a 50 character long string of text instead of the images.

I take the Jon Stewart approach. The swear filter is fine, but I'm not going to censor myself, eoff can do that fuckin shit for me. I think the use of icons/pictures is more distracting and attention-getting than anything else.

Besides, if you change the swear filter, it will make less sense when I start laughing at books at work:

i don't like being censored, but i don't hate it so much to put effort into protesting it. i will never censor myself by talking about fish and blue people though. smurf that trout

The Profranity Rainbow would be amusing for a short time, but after the novelty wore off the constant use of images would get annoying. Plus, "smurf" is practically an EoFF tradition at this point.

I literally use "smurf" in #eoff where the filter doesn't exist anyway. It's like second nature now, and I'm not even tenured.

Fuck is magnificent. I love how it functions perfectly well as a verb.

Profanity rainbow would certainly brighten the place up a bit.

I don't much care for smurf but I have no other alternatives to offer so oh well.

I don't like having a filter but I understand the reasoning behind it so oh well.

Oh well.

There is a certain other four letter word (which begins with c) that still gets filtered with Umaro. I would not mind seeing this particular word replaced with the rainbows. But don't touch my trout or smurf.

I also was pretty fond of the skulls and voted for them because I was sad they didn't have any :skull::skull::skull::skull:ing votes.

Hey now, I'm not one for tradition but "smurf" is here to stay damnit. I already say it now and again in real life by accident and if I don't have EoFF to blame then I just look like a loon.

Here's how you do your profanity rainbows without breaking lines:

What the smurfing hell, man? What kind of crazy trout are you plotting?! That girl is a total UMARO EVERYWHERE.

Cupcake.

At my middle school, we used to say cupcake instead of swearing. But then we got in trouble for speaking English :(.

I associate rainbows with homosexuality. You guys want the c-word to be replaced with rainbows.

What are you trying to say about homosexuals? :mad2:

As a Scot, I am trying to say that they're my friends, who may have just done something a bit dumb. :3

I didn't like that word when I was in NZ, and few people I know said it (if any, regularly). I don't like it now. Time and country make no difference to me... far, far more people say the word here than in NZ.

Maybe Kiwis are all :bou::bou::bou::bou:s but you never knew until you met non-:bou::bou::bou::bou:y people.

Kiwis aren't :bou::bou::bou::bou:s, far from it. But the word has become a lot less taboo.
