View Full Version : The East Coast Australia Meetup '13

Jiro

A place to conveniently organise the plan of attack.

Date: Around October 5, 2013. Come as early and leave as late as you want, but be here on the fifth.
Place: Brisbane/Sunshine Coast (my place)

Attendees:
- Jiro
- WildRaubtier
- Timekeeper
- Chemical
- Locky and Happy Noodle Boy
- Sir Lancealot

- o_O (?)
- Malboro_Menace (?)
- Rostum (?)
- Mo-Nercy (?)

Plans so far:

- Locky mentioned that she wanted to go to Australia Zoo, so let's do that!
- We can also hit up the beach of course, get some fish'n'chips.
- Playin' video games and just generally hanging out
- Gotta find a laser skirmish place so the Mike/Dak ultimate team can reunite
- Potential to head to the Gold Coast for Dreamworld/Wet N Wild/etc
- Indoor rockclimbing, perhaps? :hattip:

Notes:

I have a car, and as such, we can get around that way. If our numbers are too great then I'll probably just employ Timekeeper or Jiro's Lady as the second driver and increase our mobility. Alternatively, public transport in Brisbane is great; getting to/from the Coast will be an absolute bitch though.

I have a couple couches and crap for you guys to crash at my place. It'll be the best slumber party ever, don't you know it.

WildRaubtier - Arrival Oct 2 7:30am
Sir Lancealot - Arrival Oct 3 12:30pm
Locky - Arrival 4 Oct 8:10am

Uh yeah so let's make this happen folks. Everybody that can get here is more than welcome!

I just didn't want to list people who weren't confirmed but I had already spoken to, hence the ?s, but I see your point ;)

Money will be fine but it's just time off work for me, so a tentative yes at the moment.

Jiro

That's a given, Sephex. We're also croc wrestling and kangaroo riding too.

WildRaubtier

(I'll be there dw lol who cares if she lets me or not)

You just man up and take the punches and kicks, or else the kangaroo will never respect you. This is why you're not Australian.

We're all Australians (yes incl. Chemical and Locky and o_O). Who's gonna rob who? We'll all end up with no net change in wealth.

PS this is definitely going to be a double birthday bash because two lucky EoFFers have birthdays around this date~~

Oh, I see, so being Australian, means that you must be able to endure pain inflicted by someone else?

Chemical
08-07-2013, 08:19 AM
Wait what, all in one day?

Also. Wait what, we can go outdoor climbing at Kangaroo Point Cliffs and you want to go indoor? (Robert has the ropes and claws we need so I just bring him).

Three Monkeys is a great cafe in Brisbane.
What was that shitty little pool hall we went to? The was reasonable.
And that Irish pub? Why are there no pub crawls mentioned? Wait, what?

Chemical

We don't have to do all of them in one day, just listing potential things to do. I'm hoping some if not all of you guys will stay for a bit longer than the single day; the weekend, at least!

Plenty of room at my place. If you've got a blanket or sleeping bag to bring to keep the number I need down, that would be great, but otherwise we'll slot you in somewhere.

Time off work would be the toughest thing for me to sort out.

If all works out on that front, count me in. And since I prefer driving to flying, I'm happy to take anyone else coming from Sydney if they also like to do things the hard way.

Go-karting would be awesome.

I'm gonna start locking things in. I'll propose a plan of action for the 5th and 6th; everything else we can wing. If you have objections to any of the activities listed, better start sayin' 'em now 'cause I don't want people coming to visit me and being bored and/or annoyed. :jiro:

Pheesh
09-14-2013, 01:20 AM
The whole dreamworld/wet n' wild thing isn't high on my priority list and I don't think Tara is too keen on it either, but she's not around to ask atm. I've been to them all before, plus I'm not good with rollercoasters, and I went during school holidays once before and the lines were just... ugh.

That said, I am more than happy for it to still be a plan because I have family in qld and I should really go see them on one of the days/nights that I'm there, so let me know if/when that would be happening.

Jiro
09-14-2013, 04:49 AM

WildRaubtier

OK, OK, here's my itinery:

Arrive 7am Tuesday 2nd
Depart 8pm Sunday 6th

Jiro
09-23-2013, 11:22 AM
Here is my rough itinerary:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are highly variable based on who is here and what you all want to do. We can go and explore the city and do whatever. Foodwise, we will probably all pitch in and do some great cookups, I got an alright kitchen and Woolies/Aldi/Coles is within walking distance.

Friday night I suggest we get pancakes for dinner because fuck the man. (Not you, Freed.) We can go to a dodgy bar and play pool or do karaoke or whatever; again, it's kind of up to you guys because I've not explored many places here. (Also just playing vidya is always an option.)

Saturday we are going to the zoo. Also, laser tag. We can also head to the beach and whatever else, hopefully the weather holds up for us and we can getin all my favourite coastal activities. Should be pretty nifty.

Sunday we relax because Kent is leaving. Same thing goes from there on in really; we do whatever you guys want until you all bugger off :)

WildRaubtier
09-24-2013, 12:28 AM
How's the sleeping arangements? I can bring an air mattress, will I also need sheets etc?

Jiro
09-25-2013, 11:15 AM
We have enough things to sleep on, but if you can bring a blanket or something that would be brill. It should be pretty fucking hot though.

Jiro
10-02-2013, 12:12 PM
Today Kent and I:

Bought groceries
Drove out to visit some of his family
Played New Super Mario Bros. Wii with Emma and did somewhere between average and okay.
Played squash and managed to wound ourselves significantly
Ate delicious burgers for dinner
Slept in the car 'cause we're tuckered out

All this and more at the 2013 East Coast Australia Meet up! Tomorrow Sir Lancealot arrives (I hope!) and more good times are bound to follow.

Oh yeah. I thought you might've meant that you found out it was me who posted that load of photos from jiro's computer and you were upset because you repped the wrong dude.

Also: 4 free cookies, totally worth it

Phil and Tara arrived safely, and, more importantly, on time.

Three of us met them at the airport all decked out with our official Bad Shannon merch.

WildRaubtier

Today's update, because Jiro is a damn pussy and went to bed before he made an update in this thread:

-Picked up Tara annd Phil from the airport. They were delightfully early and we all wore our Bad Shannon gear.
-Fucked around and played vidya gamez for a few hours. Some of us got some sleep, some of us didn't.
-Phil, Tara and I went to the shops. I was unable to redeem my fourth cookie.
-We went out for dinner to a pancake house.
-Then to a bar.
-Then (wait for it)

-KAREOKE
-I have no voice.
-Tara wouldn't sing any british songs. Only love ballads with phil and some other stuff.
-Jiro will have a retty nasty headache from all his headbanging.
-I dunno what phil got out of this but my best bet would be regret.

-Jiro and I competed for a wig, FF7 squats style, while waiting for the bus. He won, ergo he is the prettiest (pretty gutted about that).
-Some guy couldn't stop giggling over my rambunctious behaviour, so I pointed at him and told everyone how he was laughing, too. That got him going real good. I highfived him on our way off because fukken LEGENDARY.

-Challenged Jiro to a drunk sprint on the way back to his house. I lead briefly before being overtaken at which point I psyched him out by stopping. He kept going, haha LOSER.

-Then we all got home and went to bed except I had to write this post because Jiro went to bed too early EXCEPT he was actually outside for some reason (;)).

Breakfast time. What's on the menu? BACON, OF COURSE. In the white is my friend Susan, fyi, wearing her Bad Shannon t-shirt, alongside Kent the WildRaubtier wearing his black version of the same. We picked them up with matching Ts.

You have never loved anything more than Kent loves that bacon.

Some Wii Tennis. I think the verdict is that most of us are trout but at least the Miis do smurfing inhuman leaps while playing.

Wii Baseball. Dean aka Sir Lancealot went undefeated. Like, really undefeated. The man is a wizard, not a knight.

Off to Pancake Manor for dinner!

At the Manor; Sir Lancealot is happy but I think WildRaubtier might be reliving Election 2013.

These two fooking lovebirds, I tell ya. It's sickening, watchin' 'em look at each other with such googly eyes. (No they're sweet, and constantly rib on each other. Hilarious.)
https://db.tt/cQCbeFFd

Did anyone say karaoke? :jess:
https://db.tt/03gLXJLr

I got some videos, but I don't know the easiest way to attach 'em here. Dropbox has failed me; anybody want to see them so much that they can provide a solution? ;) nvm think I figured it out.

Full update on the day later. Tomorrow we're early to rise for ADVENTURES.

I have just left the gang to go to the beach and am on my way back home. It was a lovely weekend filled with a lot of laughs especially a game that Dak had pulled out where you ask a question and with the cards you have, you answer and the best answer wins the card as a point. The best one of the night might have been Locky's question: "what's that smell?" And Noodle's replt: "A mime having a stroke" it got a little dark but was a real highlight along with the ladies kicking butt at laser tag pewpew!

Tara and I are sat at the airport, both a bit bummed that we have to go home now. Had the most amazing weekend with the EoFF crew, from getting drunk and belting out karaoke (never will I forget Kent singing Franz Ferdinand so loudly he didn't need a microphone), to laughing our asses off during cards of humanity (I totally won btw ;D) or just small stuff like D&M's with dak or intense wii sports rivalries. We had a great day to finish it off though, a big tune filled road trip up to the Sunshine Coast and then a great laugh at the beach, ending the day with a homemade birthday cake for Sir Lancelot. Can't wait until the Aus crew can get together and do it again.

On my phone atm so it's a mission to upload all my pics, but here's one of my favs to tide you all over.

My thoughts on the meet now I have slept and unpacked and settled back in Perth (ps sadface)

Friday:
Unfortunately I was sooo tired on Friday and had a bad stomach, that I didn't feel too up to drinking on the night, so I was the resident sober Sally! (Sir Lancealot also didn't drink) But we spent the afternoon playing video games - mostly Wii sports - all of which I suck at. Lancealot though, is an absolute beast at nearly every Wii sport. It was unreal!

Then we went out for pancakes! HNB and I shared some Nachos and this Chicken Crepe which was yummy! And at this point everyone had started drinking, and this is where it all went a bit crazy...

We went off to a Karaoke place where you book out a booth, and let me tell you something, Kent fucking loves karaoke. This is a man who doesn't need a microphone to belt out with the rest of them, this is a man that screamed out "Can you hear the people sing" from Les Mis, and this is the man who single-handedly created an Earthquake with his left foot during a drunken rendition of 'Take Me Out'. Legend.

Saturday:

On the Saturday we headed to Australia Zoo - the one thing I've wanted to do since arriving in Aus, and it was actually a rather special day for Phil and myself as Aus zoo was one of the first things he promised me about Australia before we were dating :jess:

Anyway, the zoo was wicked. I actually felt a bit emotional at times because of Steve Irwin, and I felt like there was really a bit of an atmosphere built around him there which was quite nice, but also a bit sad at the same time. I got to pet some Kangaroos, and illegally petted some koalas too. Oooh welll....

After the zoo we headed out for Laser Tag, which I will admit I wasn't really too bothered about, I'd never played it before and was a bit apprehensive - and a bit worn out from trekking around the zoo in such hot weather. But OMG it was the BEST thing ever! It was so much fun! I started out on the bottom of the leaderboard, and then ended up on top in first place and in the top 4. What an amazingly fun game it was. Chemical and myself absolutely owned at it too, we were like the Laser Tag dream team!

Said Laser Tag also prompted the discussion of which EoFFers would be good at it. It was decided that Psychotic and DK would be absolute dicks at it, Iceglow would be okay at it, but would brag about how many times he killed Pauw. Loony BoB would.... well... erm >.> everyone would probably just shoot at him all of the time. Moving on....

Sunday:
A bit of a break day, I went with Phil to go meet some of his family in QLD. I basically just rocked up to their kids party, ate a load of sandwiches, cakes, and quiches and then left. We did play Cards of Humanity that night with the EoFF crew, which as Chemical said, the funniest round being mine.

"what's that sound"

"a mime having a stroke"

Although, props to the "What do old people smell like?" "A Super soaker full of cat piss" and anything in which the taint card was played, or that balls deep in a squealing hog one.

Monday:
Beach day! and also Lancey's birthday. Here is my favourite beach pic. Look at how majestic the Jiro is....

All in all, a wonderful weekend and I'm so sad it is over.

Big thanks to Jiro though, for being an exceptional host and just an all round cool dude! I cannot wait to have you all come crash in Perth sometime! :D

Action Jiro

VERY important question for you all to answer: Which meet up attendee smelled the best? Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately I was sooo tired on Friday and had a bad stomach, that I didn't feel too up to drinking on the night

Maybe one day you will not be ill meeting EoFFers. :3

Loony BoB would.... well... erm >.> everyone would probably just shoot at him all of the time.
This is rather true, but it doesn't help that I'm the kind of player who charges in without caring about any scoring system and bounces around in the open like an idiot shouting "Look at me! I'm a decoy!" Well, that's how it is in video games, anyway... actually in laser tag, when I was a kid, I was distinctly average - never worst, never best.

Sounds like you guys had a wicked time. :D Would very much have loved to witness the karaoke session.

EDIT: Finally remembered to check this thread while at home so I could see pics. I echo Jinx's sentiments. >_>

My favourite part of kareoke was tooting on a bottle for an entire song.

I didn't get many photos so just a couple from me:

I forgot about that picture.

I think the best smelling goes to the mime aving a stroke. Tara might have been a close second... not that I spent time smelling her...

I think a secret pleasure moment was when Happy Noodle Boy professed his hate for me during Lasertag.
