Boardgame General Thread

(may fail)

who plays board games?
I love Puerto Rico and Settlers of Catan (still)
More recently, co-op games like Sentinels of the Multiverse and Pandemic have made it into the regular rotation.

Also I have tons of others - I love Say Anything cause it's so easy to play and people love it even when drunk - Prefer it to Cards Against Humanity

scrabble/monopoly/risk even... though they haven't been broken out for years

what about y'all?!

Clue and How To Host A Murder are the best games, period.

I liked playing Yahtzee with my grandparents and my ex and I would play Caravan with real cards. That was super fun.

I hate Charades. :| fucking hate it.

Murder Mystery = D&D without half of the fun. :P

I dig charades okay - but that's only if it's in Cranium or the like.

Yeah, but D&D doesn't come in a box with Vincent Price's face on it. Your argument is invalid.

The Last Man On Earth was crap - Vinnie lost my support with that one.

Boardgames are pretty fun, but I ever hardly get to play because no one I know locally plays them. And when I do play, they don't last very long because the other players get board of it and quit right away. :(

There was the time edczxcvbnm, myself, and two other friends went to play a friendly game of Life. I actually got the best, if not, second best career. Things were going well for me as I also obtained a lovely wife and two kids. Of course, I lose my job and get busted down to the WORST (and I been ranking them based on salary, of course) career. All my other friends kept having fortune smile upon them be bringing me to the brink of bankruptcy.

At some point, it became edczxcvbnm's turn. Even though our other two friends were rolling in some mad dough, he (while laughing to the point of tears) says he is going to sue me. I was already pretty drunk at this point, so I suddenly went, "FINE! I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO DO THIS!" I start throwing my cards and whatever everywhere. I pull the symbolic family out of my car and exclaim, "MY FAMILY IS RUINED! I BLOW MY BRAINS OUT! NOT BEFORE I KILL MY WIFE AND CHILDREN--BENOIT STYLE--(at this point they were laughing so hard that they couldn't breathe)AND NOW IT'S OVER!!"

It was all in good fun though. Those of you who ever caught a stream of edczxxcvbnm knows what I probably sounded like. Mad, but not actually upset.

This. Seriously, me and you Proto should meet up and have a mad board game session. I love board games! But again, no-one around me wants to play. My entire family don't do boardgames.

I'm making family games night a tradition in my household when I have kids.

I have a game night once a week most weeks.

Just need to know the right people and have the best games that don't burn people out.

I love playing board games. Monopoly is a personal favorite of mine. But I also like games like Life and Risk. An overly complex game that I love is "War on Terror - The Boardgame" and it is a blast. I kind of view it as a modern day Risk.

Also, I didn't actually sue Justin in his story above. I was joking when I said it and ultimately sued someone else. I only said that because I knew he would react in some way but what we received was indeed magical =D

I used to have a once a month Quelf night in college. Probably my second favorite board game. My favorite is Balderdash (though, I have never used the board for that game.)

I love board games!

Some of my friends, when they still lived in my part of Houston, always brought out Ticket To Ride, Settlers of Catan, Once Upon a Time, and Battlestar Galactica (BSG only once, though D: ). Arkham Horror was fun too, but we didn't even finish our game it was so long.

Nowadays, I play a lot of Pandemic and Cards Against Humanity.

What ? People still do this ?!

Ticket To Ride (http://nightmaremode.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/ticket1.jpg) is fun, with different editions, like Europe.

Clue is great

Bang (http://www.dvgiochi.com/giochi/bang/gallery/bang02.jpg) is cool

Monopoly always finishes in a fight, people trade offers are always ridiculous

And tomorrow afternoon I'm joining friends who have an association dedicated to playing for an afternoon of boardgame playing in my favorite bar (http://www.flickr.com/photos/airelle-info/sets/72157630024847747/).

I love board games. Stratego, Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, Boggle, I love them all. I've played Settlers of Catan once and liked that one too. I'm also really into this game called Munchkins that my brother has. We play it every time we get together.

We should have a board game night at EoFF.

Settlers of Catan is great. I also like to play several card games, including the previously mentioned Cards Against Humanity and also Gloom.

But I think my favourite game is still the one I played with Roogle. Haunted House on the Hill? House on Haunted Hill? Something like that; it was fucking fantastic.

- Mansions of Madness
- Level 7
- Battlestar Galactica
- Arkham Horror

Apples to Apples is another great one. Both played normally and as a drinking game.

Sounds like Betrayal at House on the Hill - a good game because eventually someone becomes the traitor! And the theme is sweet.

My wife and I play Agricola two or three times every Shabbat. She's better at it than I am, but I can still win about a third of the time.

We own Dominion, but we're not great fans of it. And I got her into board gaming first through Munchkin, then into Fluxx and Chrononauts (after which we never played Munchkin again), all of which I had played before, followed by Lost Cities (an excellent, light, two-player game) and then Agricola. She absolutely loves Agricola.

Settlers of Catan really is an awesome game, and the perfect gateway game to get non-geeks encountered with the idea that board games aren't just for kids. But eventually you move on to the really heavy geek games.

Also I have nobody else to play SoC with except my wife and the game is lousy for only two players but you bet your life I'm buying it as soon as my daughter is old enough.

I really want to play X-Wing, Carcasonne, Dominion, and Shadows Over Camelot. I need to start going to board game meetups. ;A; ... Fortunately, the Barnes & Noble near me has one this Wednesday.

In my experience, I've converted my non-gamer friends to Pandemic and Cards Against Humanity, mostly. I'm not sure how they felt about Catan when we played it high/drunk or how I was able to explain the rules. XD

Catan is the ultimate Euro gateway drug

I still enjoy it but ya gotta have the 5/6 player expansion.

Five is the sweet spot for gaming.. Tons of games are finally for up to five players now which is awesome. Just got the new edition of Pandemic On The Brink last month. Five players seems to make it crazier.

Soon I shall also get In The Lab - not sure how different that'll be.

Oh man, does anyone remember the old days when we used to play some online variation of Cluedo? I remember a lot of chess and scrabble, too. We have to do this. First we need to find a good online variation.

Shadows over Camelot (the card game) is awesome. Also, if your friends enjoyed the co-op feel of Pandemic, you should get Forbidden Island :

I saw this randomly at Borders one time. Even though it intrigued me, I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but after watching that episode, I added it to my Amazon wishlist. It's much cheaper than Pandemic, too~

And if Wikipedia is right, Shadows over Camelot will be featured on the next TableTop. :O

Some of us have played an online version of Cards Against Humanity several times. ;o

For quite a good number of games, a way to play online multiplayer is Vassal (http://www.vassalengine.org/). I saw it has a Small World module, and I'd be up to run a SW night next week. We can use the chatroom/skype/google hangouts for trash talking.

I love Game of Life and Clue!

Ooooo a Clue night would be fuuuuuuunnnnnn

lulz. We played Clue drunk one night and one of my sister's friends got the guessing thing backwards, she kept guessing the knife in the billiard room and we were like "IT'S NOT THOSE! You have to mark them out!" lol..

EDIT: Board Games | Pogo.comŽ Free Online Games (http://www.pogo.com/board-games)

I just found that, but it looks like it could be good!
