Recently at Gamescon in Germany, Square Enix graced us with even more goodies with Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster! With this new release, these popular entries are getting the all star treatment. Including content that was previously only available to Europe and Japanese releases, this new Remaster will attempt to bring new and old fans back into the series with this fun remaster.

A video was shown at Gamescon showing the comparison of SD and HD within the battles. With a focus on Overdrives this video shows off the differences between the editions. More importantly, it shows off the difference in the newly remastered Battle music! Take a look and listen!

Over 60 tracks have been remastered and rearranged for the release in HD audio. You can notice the improvements from this video and I for one squealed in delight with this upgraded track alone.

Are you excited to hear newly remastered tracks to accompany your gaming experience? Look out for Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster later this year on PS3 and Vita.

The music is nice, but isn't really going to change the minds of people who think that this is one of FF's worst battle themes.

As a slight sidetrack, am I the only one who doesn't like the new numerical displays? They seem a little too clean to me. There was more life in the old ones.

I guess I never had a problem with the battle music in this entry so I'm not familiar with the hate of it.

I do like the cleaner look though. It makes everything seem more precise.

The new sounds are good. I like the new version. I'm just concerned that by making it so much louder, they actually brickwalled the audio. One of my favorite things about FFX was the audio quality, which I hope they didn't screw up by applying mainstream brickwall mastering.

Remastered is good, FFX also had a fabulous score.

I agree... it seems that when they remastered it, they lowered the drums in the mix and I think the bass too. It felt more dynamic in the SD sample. Hopefully this isn't happening on every song...

Hm I dunno. This isn't strictly a remaster of the original battle music, but more a re-arrangement of it as well. Simply remastering it would just increase the fidelity of the music, giving it a higher dynamic range, cleaner instrument samples, etc. It wouldn't add electric guitars where there weren't electric guitars before.

I don't mind it, though, although maybe there should be a toggle for people who preferred the older versions of the tracks. It's not like a BD can't fit it!

I'm disappointed at how much of the text stylization they got rid of. Most of it looks like Photoshop Amateur hour using Tahoma and gradients now :/

Mastering doesn't really involve fidelity or samples, though, it's just what you do after mixing to finalize the audio. Fidelity and sample quality are things that you'd have to fix in the recording stage. Source: 10 years of recording, mixing, mastering music.

I'll take your word for it. I have no idea exactly where in the production stage mastering is done, but I know it doesn't make new instruments pop up.

The new instruments sound good, though. But the mix is a little flatter as Nebulance said.

Yeah. I don't really mind this change. It sounds new and fancy, I guess.

The original version is better in that it's got more depth and variation. A step backwards, which is a shame considering how the rest got updated in terms of graphics.

I never cared for the original song so this is a step in the right direction IMO. I just worry about the rest of the soundtrack as I adored it, and I'm hoping they didn't change it all that much.

FFX has one of the best soundtracks ever, which is not surprising considering it was made by the dream team: Uematsu, Nakano, and Hamauzu c:

I... honestly don't know how I feel about the remastered battle theme. ._.

For me, FFX has one of the worst battle themes for me, but this new arrangement is I think a great improvement, the original sounds boring and...dull. This new track with the new instruments and edgier feel makes me feel pumped to fight a Dingo in Besaid!

I wish they made a brand new track for the Monster arena. As nice as this new arrangement is, people are in there for days, listening to the same old track over and over. It would be nice to have a Monster Arena theme specifically for all the difficult enemies. Sounds underwhelming fighting Nemesis with the original battle theme I think.

This sounds too mechanical for me.

I would argue this new arrangement is flatter overall; the original had a more dynamic sound. I agree about the Monster arena, and it goes double for the Omega Ruins! Talk about spending *a lot* of time in there with the same music... On days like that, I'll usually turn the sound down and put a record on or something.

I think repetition is responsible for a lot of the problems people have with the songs in the series. A lot of songs which would just be "ok" or which are actually fairly nice just inspire rage after so many repetitions.

The main battle theme for FFX, for example, never really gave me any problems, but the opening to it does get annoying when it's repeated for the thousandth time while you're farming monsters. And it's still nowhere near the worst offender of the series (Shuffle or Boogie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoYm2itZktc)).
