This thread is for me (and others) to ask noob questions and not be embarrassed by it.

I'm level 32 CNJ and so far I've seen two kinds of armor for sale in shops: Jedi robes and spandex court jester. Is the only way to get different armor skins to find it randomly in dungeons?

You can get unique armour that looks a lot better from dungeons or from your Grand Company for seals.

I tend to ask a ton in the FB and LS (in-game) chat. These guys are aweomse! <3

Heres a really important question: when will the towns hold their ig wedding?! Im itching for a pardey! :D

Will have to find out how the in-game weddings work, first. I don't know if there are multiple venues, if it can be done anywhere or if it has to be done in the church in the Shroud.

I think it was in FFXI. Well you could get married anyway, I don't know if there were weddings.

No gay marriage though!

How do I convince my girlfriend to play with me, when she enjoys watching me do dungeon runs?

Loony BoB
10-02-2013, 09:13 AM
Point out how easy it is to watch you doing dungeon runs when she can be in the dungeon run and control the camera angle.

Rostum

She's not very good at controlling the camera... I'm slowly trying to get her to have a go at playing my character for basic things like fishing and mining. I guess it's baby steps!

I thought that they would add same-sex marriages in if there was enough support for it, unless they decided against it recently.

It was never about "is there enough support"... it was always about "will we get away with this in a global MMO", and they opted for "probably not, let's not do it". Unfortunate but that's business for you. Ironically, I'm pretty sure there are gay characters in the game.

What about the Church in East Thanalan?

After looking over the details of the the 300 limit per week on the Myth Allangan drops (or whatever they're called), is it really gonna take something like 4 months of maxing the limit to be able to get a full set of AR+2 gear? Is there a more efficient way other than running Ampador Deep over and over?

There was a press statement about it a week before release, and it caused quite the stir on the subreddit. One could say it's a business decision, but at this point, there's not much more SE could do to piss people off. I dare say that they would get away with it and retain decent numbers. The first month has ended, so the biggest population drop has already happened. Then again, companies are free to change their minds at any time.

Though I can't find the transcripts of the relevant developer chats, November 2012{1} was the first mention of any marriage in FFXIV; in August 2013{2} was when YP and a forum rep said that they were still open to the possibility. Admittedly, I don't keep up with the news on this game (not since that Sankaku stuff you and I know all so well about), but I have not yet found an outright statement of refusal. In mid-September{3} there was an official petition for SE to allow gay marriage, but that's not really indicative of anything.

From what I can understand, Japan's residents are not exactly progressive in this regard. On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the most supportive, they'd rank somewhere between "no" and "lol no." It's not the global MMO population that would disagree with the idea.

So my PLD is level 50, I have my job-specific armour but I know there's better gear out there, and have come to the conclusion (based on random people's shouts) that you need to smash through dungeons over and over to get enough tomes (?) to buy it. I want to buy some of that Darklight armour, it looks pretty groovy.

Only problem is, most of the shouting I see is people asking for people who are already geared up or people who are getting angry at ungeared players for having crap armour. What's the best way to get geared up when you need to run these dungeons ungeared to start with?

You can try to round up a group of like-minded people (the non-geared) or people who are in your Free Company to help you do it. The elitism will not be going away. Double-check to see if the DL gear does have the better stats distribution; might save you some time (probably won't).

Also, you can get some "starter" 50s gear by purchasing them from your Grand Company. This is how you use up the GC seals you get from FATEs and from selling pinks/greens to the GC Supplier and Provisions. The stats may or may not be terrible based on which one you chose. Don't neglect your GC hunting log. You will have to go back and do some lower-level content in order to fulfill the requirements for rank promotion.

If you don't do the extra missions, your first leveling experience without FATE grinding with be slow. Very slow. That is to say, extremely slow. I would suggest that you do as many of the quests that you can; if you want, you can supplement it with the extra levequests, though you only get a few a day, and it's better spent on using those for levels in any of the crafting classes. If you're into FATE grinding, you can get away with not doing any of the quests other than the story quest starting from the low thirties (Costa Del Sol/Wineport, then Coerthas, then Bluefog/Ceruleum). Other parts of the world will have people doing FATEs too, but only these zones have dedicated player trains. Make sure you turn off spell effects for non partied players.

Amdapor keep(ak) isnt that hard in my opinion and i dont get why ppl would demand dl gear to run it... as an alternative to running ak i could offer castrum meridianum. Even though im not a big fan of them speed runs. >< that add- army reliably kicks my whm butt no matter what!
Then theres also the hard mode primals... but finding a pt that can defeat them in 1 try will prove to be a harder challenge than finding an ak group.

And yes, you will have to grind those dungeons for the philo and myth tomes. But at least you get some ilvl60( item level) gear in ak.

Do yall do the low level missions when you go to a new town?

I skip quests that are more than 4 levels lower than my character's level, so that I can do them later someday while leveling up an alt class. I do them if they're near my level and I happen to find one nearby in a town, but I don't seek them out.

Honestly the quests in this game are pretty boring. I haven't seen one yet that isn't a fetch quest, escort quest, or "go kill N monsters". But if you mix up town quests, storyline quests, FATEs, hunting logs and dungeons there's plenty to keep you busy. I went from 0-35 so far pretty painlessly by wandering around doing whatever I felt like, no grinding at all.

There's no rush, right? Level 50 isn't going anywhere. Do whatever seems fun.

Question: is there a faster way to level up my chocobo? I let it fight sometimes, but it gets about 1 pixel of exp bar per monster it fights. It's going to stuck at rank 2 forever at this rate.

Tavrobel
10-05-2013, 06:51 AM
No. The EXP is a set amount per level, and does not scale according to the level you summon it at. The value is not available (from datamining), invisible (to you), and the mechanic by which it inherits EXP is unknown at this point. The EXP required to progress to the next level increases at an unknown rate, but it most definitely increases.

Do not expect your chocobo to level if you are using it during the leveling process of alternate classes. It does not receive quest EXP, levequest EXP, or FATE EXP. It can not be brought into dungeons, and summoning it while duty finding will eject you.

Full disclosure, conjecture: users have reported that you get less EXP per kill with your chocobo out. I personally have not found the EXP gained to scale from chaining mobs your own level. It is an unknown percentage, but I believe it to be about 10% shared, not 10% bonus. You'll have to look very carefully, because the EXP your chocobo earns from a kill is shown underneath of the EXP that you earn per kill. To verify, kill a mob without the chocobo, check the value, and then summon it with a gyshal, and look for two EXP numbers.

At level 10, you will have exactly enough skill points on your chocobo to fully max out one of the trees, and there are no plans to provide a respec of any sort. If you place points in two trees at level 1, you are already locked out of the rank 10 skill. Why they gave you two points at level 2, and two 1-point options is beyond me.

If it makes you feel better, this is what I thought when I found out: so wow brutal wow such balance wow wow so many brood war was balance such wow such suck square enix pls wow wow also no mounting during combat such balance wow wow wow very terror

So I just picked up a copy this morning and I have plenty of stupid questions! I'm mainly wondering about character creation atm. If I want to play with you all am I free to choose any race? Are any classes race specific or limited to certain races? How many classes can one character have? I'm sure ill think of more while at work waiting to get home and play!

Loony BoB
11-08-2013, 04:32 PM
Race has such a little impact that nobody gives a shit. It's like 0.01% of what will make up your character's ability to tank/heal/deal damage. Nobody will ever care. Seriously. Races are, essentially, purely an aesthetic thing. You will be able to (and most people do because it's far more efficient) have one character be every class, and you will have to level each class up seperately (changing classes is as easy as changing weapons... in fact, that's exactly how you do it). When making your character, the only thing you need to think about is whether or not you like the look and sound of your character. That's it! :D

sweet sounds good to me. I'm installing right now while on lunch :)

How are names done? One name or do they require a First and Last name for the characters?

Loony BoB

First and Last name. If you really care about immersion, make the first name reasonable (basically don't name yourself The Rockstar or the NPC cast of FFXIV will go around calling you 'The' all the time).

It only matters if you are min-maxing a single role and a single class, and will never, ever switch away. If you choose incorrectly, your character will be ruined for level 1 questing*. Also extremely important for role-playing purposes.

Outstanding bonuses are:
Dunesfolk Lalafell, Piety 23, highest base MP at level 1
Moon Miqote, Mind 23, highest base healing at level 1
Sea Rogaedyn, Vitality 23, highest base HP at level 1
Highlander Hyur, Strength 23, highest base melee damage at level 1
Wild Elezen, Dexterity 23, highest base ranged damage at level 1
Dusk Elezen, Intelligence 23, highest base magic damage at level 1

*Bonuses are eclipsed by gear that you obtain and can wear before you actually reach level 2 from quests that are immediately available in your starting town. Damage bonuses from a single point of strength, dexterity, or intelligence contribute about 1% of your total damage (check the character sheet if you don't believe me).

Your god or goddess also determines which elemental attacks you resist or take extra damage from*.

*Every element is encountered at least once in each zone you travel in. Every additional point or lost point in a resistance will increase or decrease damage taken by approximately 1%. Mobs regularly do less than 10 damage. Also, the game rounds to integers.

No class restriction based on race. Some races favor certain classes (if you consider an extra 0 damage at level 1 to be an advantage).

A single character can be maxed in every class. Includes combat and crafting/gathering classes. Any class that is not currently your highest level will receive a 50% bonus experience. Effectively, that means the moment you reach level 50 in one class, you don't stop receiving this experience bonus.
