Who say's covers are terrible?

I love BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, because it gives us beauties like this

RTytQWfcO4M
Little Mix covering Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait.

and this

NkvL0q6UuIs
The fabulously ginger Newton Falkner covering Payphone by Maroon 5.

I've also mentioned enough how much I fucking love Birdy. But I'll link her again for any of you who haven't listened to her. (Why?!)

What are your favourite covers of songs? Also, on the other hand, what are some of the worst covers you've found?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYKLvYGqaC0 I don't listen to Tool or anything, but I'm more just really impressed by these kids than anything.

I also really like this cover of Sweet Child o' Mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YO6sFdoklVU#t=18

Lastly, this cover of the song Home by Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros is adorable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L64c5vT3NBw

Kate Bush's version isn't great. He actually uses her in his cover, haha, barely as backup vocals.

Kate Bush's version is fantastic you loon.

Also, John Legend does it again

As someone has rightly written on the video's comments.

Yes, yes he can.

didn't we have this thread a few months ago?

anyway time for some of the classics

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen):
WIF4_Sm-rgQ

Jimi Hendrix Experience - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan):
TLV4_xaYynY

Santana - Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen (Fleetwood Mac/Gábor Szabó):
mTbFNsBy73I

The Byrds - My Back Pages (Bob Dylan):
vr1bz877zE0

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded by the Light (Bruce Springsteen):
fe4sbTBNtGQ

Johnny Cash - Hurt (Nine Inch Nails):
3aF9AJm0RFc

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix):
JWcUJxrih5M

Dead Kennedys - I Fought the Law (The Crickets, albeit with a few liberties taken to the lyrics):
9dB_ubVAnGw

Metallica - Am I Evil? (Diamond Head):
-u-HCHCuHMg

Emperor - A Fine Day to Die (Bathory):
qW4Basxpte4

I could go on. I apologise in advance if I have already taken all of someone's favourites.

Terrible covers include Madonna's ruination of Don McLean's "American Pie" and Britney Spears' desecration of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" (actual good covers have been recorded by Devo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jadvt7CbH1o) and the Residents (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpQU68U92wU), although neither is recognisable as the same song and the latter in particular will probably sound like noise to a lot of people here).

"Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush is one of the best pop songs ever written. Period.

- actually, Kate Bush's cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man" is pretty great too. And Cat Power is notoriously good at covering songs. "The Covers Record" and "Jukebox" are both wonderful records consisting of just covers.

Some of my favorites.

Sarah Slean - Climbing Up The Walls (Pink Floyd cover)

Ani Difranco - Used Car (Bruce Springsteen cover)

For cheering up, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsqgM4pZy4s

I don't know if I have a favorite cover, but I've been really enjoying Postmodern Jukebox's (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7A4D9C100657150E) 20s-50s-ish covers of current pop songs.

I got this post on my phone and went aaaaah The Crow! So glad someone else loves this song! I also did not know it was a Joy Division cover.

Along the same lines of The Crow, I don't find this cover of Cry Little Sister (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3eeGTFH_Fo) from The Lost Boys too terrible. The video is atrocious, though and watching it makes the song terrible and hilarious, but I kindof like the electric guitar/rock twist on it. Of course, the original is best. :jess:

Blondie is one of the greatest bands in history.
Blondie - The Tide Is High - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppYgrdJ0pWk)

I will take Phil Anselmo over Ozzy any day when it comes to metal vocals.
Pantera-Electric Funeral(Black Sabbath Cover) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--icdKMbCOo)

I like this version because it's danceable. And Tarja's cover was a letdown.
Groove Coverage - Poison (with lyrics) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S25BzWX-MDM)

Tarja does do good covers though.
Tarja Turunen - Music of the Night (HIGH QUALITY) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfKDIZJLu_Q)

RIP Laura. You did a lot of wonderful covers but this is my favorite.

Blinded by the Light/ Mandred Mann
Almost the entire album of Nirvana Unplugged in New York
Rivers of Babylon/ Sublime
Total Eclipse of the Heart/ Bonnie Tyler
Love Hurts/ Nazareth
Turn, turn, turn/ The Byrds
Twist and Shout/ The Beatles
Almost every cover song Cash or GN'R did I like better than the original
I also like how Joe Cocker got stoned with help from his friends, and then covered a song about it.

And many many more

I'm going to assume that the only reason A Perfect Circle's eMOTIVe record isn't mentioned here is because it was such an obvious choice that it was overlooked.

That's why I haven't said anything until now. I often forget these are covers.
