Console Generation Seven.

It has been a long ride since its beginnings in 2005, but in a few short weeks the eighth generation will be picking up steam with the release of the PS4 and the Xbox One. It is an exciting time for us as video game enthusiasts – it has been almost ten years since we last saw the whole industry shift forward like this. Despite this, we should take a moment to look back and appreciate what this generation has given us before we get too caught up in what is to come.

The past decade has brought a lot to the video game industry, such as the introduction of Blu-Ray and the, uh, failure of the HD-DVD; and the "popularisation" of motion controls. But, more important than any technological innovations are the games themselves, right? This generation has seen the rise of indie games, the release of more first person shooters than you can shake a stick at, and many games heralded as “The Best Game This Year/Generation/EVER”.

This leads us to the topic at hand. We, the members of Eyes on Final Fantasy, will be putting together our own list of games that we consider to be the Greatest Games to come out in the past generation. This includes games released on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP and any PC games to come out since November 2005 (so to not exclude the PC Master Race :love: ).


On to the important part!


All you need to do to take part is to submit a list of up to 10 games - games you feel are fantastic or games you feel would deserve a spot on a list of the “Top Games of the Seventh Generation”, even if they weren’t the greatest. If you want to include a few sentences as to why you think it deserves a spot on the list, feel free to do so! Once you have your 10 games, PM the list to me (http://home.eyesonff.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=15366). Nominations will stay open for two weeks.

The more nominations we have for this, the easier it will be to rank them. So submit your titles and tell your best EoFF friends to do the same! Happy Nominating, and enjoy reliving the greats of the past decade. :)

More than you'd think actually. Slightly more rounded body shape, two slightly raised analog sticks, and a touch pad on the back, but considering none of that is very clear in the picture you have in the OP you might be for given for not realizing it at a quick glance.

If people vote the same way I did (which they won't) I can safely say only one of those predictions would be correct.


I think MGS or Fallout will get robbed.

I was tempted to put New Vegas on my list, but just couldn't fit it in. I could honestly make arguments for why Fallout 3 and MGS4 at least shouldn't be on the list. Even if I think 3 might find it's way there.

Wow, man, this generation was so long. It's not that noticeable in the console games to me, but there are PC games from "this" generation that feel two generations old now. Of course, PC games probably should be 9 of every 10 games on this list. I didn't select any games on Bolivar's list and I don't expect a lot of the games I listed to get any votes other than mine, even though they're mostly pretty well-known games.

The generation was indeed pretty extensive, pretty sure it's been the longest console generation ever. I sometimes consider how 2005 doesn't seem that far back, but really it was ages ago.

This was actually really hard. There were a lot fewer games I enjoyed this generation than any previous gen. I'm really glad it's almost over, it feels like we've been stuck in this generation for far too long.

Also, a Fallout game did make it on my list.

It was New Vegas.

I sent mine in a while ago. It was really hard to pick out my nominations simply because I hadn't played all that many games from this generation, and I really haven't finished playing that many games either. I've been playing a lot of older games the past few years. In the end, I just went with whatever immediately stuck out in my mind as those seem to have had a lasting impression on me.

Unfortunately, the one game I for sure wanted on the list (Gravity Rush) is on the Vita and didn't qualify. I know some of my games probably shouldn't qualify to be on the list, but I wasn't going to nominate what I haven't played before.

I was pretty close to nominating a couple of Wii games, but one of them didn't even see a Western release. I couldn't really justify labeling it a 'top' game because of that.

I had initially tried to spread my nominations out across genres, whilst allowing for some AAA titles. But I ended up putting 2 (maybe 3) puzzle games on there. :p

I picked at least one game where I am sure I am the only one that nominated it. It was an XBox exclusive that you can no longer play at all. I had a ton of fun with it.

Most of my games are available on multiple systems and a couple of PC exclusives. When I look at my video game collection from the days of NES-PS2, 90 % of the games I own are available for just 1 system. When I look at my 360 collection, I see mostly multiplatform games. It isn't so much that my tastes have changed so much that publishers are forcing all games to go to all systems by and large now. I also am not a fan of Sony's in house dev teams or Naught Dogs. I just don't find their games appealing.

Can we also nominate the worst games of the generation? That sounds like a list that would be much better to reminisce about. I love to rent that shitty trashy game. How can you go wrong with gold like Resident Evil 6 or Ride to Hell Retribution?

I think my list was pretty evenly split between multiplats, PC and PS3 exclusives, with one DS title rounding it out for good measure. The PSP was maybe my favorite platform, with most of my favorite games in my favorite genre (JRPGs) but for shine reason I didn't put any on my list.

Yep, that was what I was getting at. Feel free to call me stupid for the games I picked. It's not for me that I requested it to be that way. It just doesn't look good from an outsider's perspective to have a lot of negativity on a 'top 20' list, even if it is satirical or sarcastic.
