Cosmos was a documentary TV series in 1980 hosted by Carl Sagan. It covered a wide range of scientific subjects, including the origin of life and a perspective of our place in the universe. Carl Sagan has a way of engaging science with excitement and this show helped to bridge the gap between the academic community and the general public. As of 2009, it was still the most widely watched PBS series in the world. It won an Emmy and a Peabody Award and has since been broadcast in more than 60 countries and seen by over 500 million people.
Neil Tyson is going to be hosting a new Cosmos series for the modern era. The Cosmic Calender returns as well as the Ship of the Imagination. Check out the stunning trailer for the new 13 episode series!

the trailer seems a bit all over the place, but I'll give the series a chance for sure
