An unexpected surprise has been announced, as Dengeki PlayStation has reported that Brigadier General Cid Raines will be in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII! Those of us who played the original Final Fantasy XIII may find this as quite a shock considering the events that unfolded in the original game.

This week's issue of Famitsu magazine gave people a glimpse of what Cid's role would be this time around. The character is quoted as saying "It's not god. What's moving me is the countless thoughts of the dead. I am the representative of the dead."

The number of cast members who are returning in Lightning Returns is so large that even people who were thought to be dead make a comeback as well!

There are, unfortunately, some people who will not return. In a recent interview with Siliconera, producer Yoshinori Kitase said that Gadot, Yuj, Maqui and Lebreau will not make appearances. "This game takes place far into the future after the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, so unfortunately members of NORA will not make an appearance." He went on to add a little light at the end of the tunnel for NORA fans, stating "There may be tidbits that pertain to various sub-characters hidden within the episodes of the various side quests."

So who are you looking forward to seeing in Lightning Returns? If Cid is the representative of the dead, what role will the dead play in this game? Does the lack of NORA disappoint you? Let's talk in the comments!

Is it wrong that I want the main antagonist to be named Thunder?

At this rate, I'll have a complete list of characters before even getting the game. With a bit of luck, maybe I'll even get to know most of the story before buying it too!

All these spoilers. :( Dammit, SE, let me enjoy my game! Let me be surprised!

I wish the thread topic would have been "new characters revealed for FF13-2" or something, then I could have just not clicked it and remain without the knows.

Yeah, a lot of the Lightning Returns thread titles have been super spoilery.

I like it that they've been releasing so much information to get people interested (the exact opposite of FFvXIII/FFXV) but they need to stop. It's not that long before it comes out! Release info on gameplay mechanics but not the story!

A fair point about the thread titles.

I like how they have all these other FFXIII characters showing up 'far into the future' but not NORA, because of course that wouldn't make any sense!

But people love the XIII story! People want to know all about it!

Voice actor restrictions, perhaps?

Sorry about the title, everybody. I was thinking more along the lines of "I've got to read that because how is his return even possible?" more than "I wanted to be surprised to see him". My mistake :foot:

At least it was changed a few hours after posting :)

At least NORA got to live out their lives to old age. Presumably. I imagine hitching a ride 500 years in the future is hard to come by. Come to think of it, did they even know everyone left?

Don't feel bad, LWL. You're not the only person to do it. :)
