Kingdom Hearts 3 Won't Be Coming Any Time Soon

For all the Kingdom Hearts fans out there it seems that more bad news is incoming. Even though we've been treated to a visually wonderful trailer thanks to the D23 Expo Japan, it seems that the development of Kingdom Hearts 3 is slowing down again. Speaking to Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura has commented; "Although this is our first time showing footage of actual game play, the quality isn't anywhere near what the staff members consider satisfying."

So although this is good news for us in one way - that we'll be getting a top quality game at the end of this wait, I can't help but feel like the wait will be a very, very long one indeed.

Why is it taking so long anyway? The long wait is because of a new visual style that Nomura has described as "brush like" which could only be possible to produce on the upcoming consoles - the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Nomura has said that they're really trying to amp up the visuals with Disney in mind, which was their goal from day one. "Ever since the first game, we've strived for a Disney-like brush quality in the graphic gradiations." So with the arrival of consoles that can support this vision, it seems Nomura and his team have all they need to deliver a truly fantastic, state of the art gaming experience.

When can we expect to see Kingdom Hearts 3? Don't bother putting it on your Christmas list that's for sure. With Kingdom Hearts 3 not even being featured on the line up list for March 2014 fiscal quarter, it seems unlikely to expect it in 2014 at all when you take into account the amount of work that is going into this drastic overhaul. It's rumoured to be unlikely to be any earlier than 2015, by which time the original fans of the series will be waiting patiently in their retirement homes for a play through this game.

THat's kind of disheartening.

I'm also noticing how SE sort of skipped an entire console generation for several of their main franchises. We got a single "main" final fantasy, and no KH at all for PS360. Compared to the usual 2-3 final fantasies per generation, and both of the main KH games on PS2, that sounds a bit draughty.

Yeah, but it's getting to the point now where as a fan, I kind of expect their big titles to be delayed.

I'm starting to wonder if they just revealed these two games (KH3 & FFXV) with the sole intention of beating Microsoft and Xbox One at E3. Especially as there's so many delays, and very little news.

Well, this point where we kind of have to expect as big delays as we have seen now kind of came with this console generation as well. It's just a symptom of the problems they've had this gen.

I wish they would stop the whole sequel nonsense and maybe get some new original games. The lack of Main games is sad. I miss sakaguchi :(


Although I have some faith in Nomura so we'll see how this KH3 and XV goes. Maybe by the time it comes out I'll be able to afford a ps4.

I'm not expecting KH3 or FFXV to hit before 2015. We may get FFXV in Q4 2014 if we're lucky, but it's a big maybe. Was anyone really expecting KH this or next year?

Seriously though, the concern that always churns my stomach is will the title be worth the epic wait? Or after teasing us with a title for what feels like a decade, will it come up short from what it was expected to be? I mean, there are always shortcomings to a work... otherwise there would be no need to try again and make a new title. You can't please everyone. But I just can't help but feel they're pushing back the date only to ridiculously raise the hopes of the fanbase beyond what the company is actually capable of producing. To ensure we don't get unrealistic expectations, well, the company should just say nothing. "Mum's the word."

I was surprised so many people assumed <3 meant KH3. When I saw it, I assumed it was just another spin-off. KH3 would have to be actually read as Kingdom Hearts 3. <3 sounded to me like 3Ds, just another tale before KH3. Honestly, what could people expect of a Kingdom Hearts game called "Less Than Three"? I don't get it. I really don't. I do wish it had been a game. The name sounds interesting even if there wasn't any real story or game mechanics that actually tied to it.

Thanks to you, I'm still just assuming the E3 announcement for Kingdom Hearts 3 is just a big part of the April Fools joke.

Also, I wasn't paying attention to the date and skimmed the article when you guys did the joke, and told a friend about it. I told them that I trust these guys at EoFF. Then I looked at it more closely later that day/paid closer attention to it and realized what was going on. That friend now asks me anytime I talk to him about gaming news, "Yeah, uh huh. And did you hear that from that one Final Fantasy forum?"

I mostly joke, of course. I did fall for it just because I was only skimming the website before a class or something, and my friend does ask me that question most anytime I tell him about anything I found out about online. I thought it was funny since usually I don't fall for those sorts of things.

I have a new theory to go along with the whole April Fool's prank pushing Squenix's hand is that they saw the articles everyone was posting and then thought, "Wait, was that something we announced? I can't remember. I guess we better start working on an official announcement." I only say this because several April Fool's articles seem to be cropping up a lot lately on Facebook. For some reason all of my friends are just now seeing them for the first time, believing that their real, and deciding to share them with the world.
