Forsaken Lover

So this is a bit late but I didn't have access to the internet for a while. Also I'm appalled no one else made this thread.
It has been fifteen years since Xenogears' North American release and I think it's time we reflect upon it.
Xenogears is a game you have to love in spite of its many, many flaws. Can your love for Fei and Elly's characters outweigh the fact most of the cast is forgotten and useless? Can your love for the larger storyline outweigh the terrible dungeons? Can your love for the music make you deal with Disk 2?
Even then I know people who think Elly was a horrible sexist piece of crap and Disk 2 wasn't all that bad. I am of the second opinion because a lot of the most intriguing Plot happens on the second disk. And so I can forgive the Narration Chair.
And even Disk 2 Haters gotta love this.

That's "Flight" playing during the transformation and it could easily be the best track in the game. But I'll get back to music in a second.
Xenogears is a game I love. I love it more than I love other technically "better" games. Take Final Fantasy IX for example. There's no doubt in my mind that, pound for pound, it was much better put together. Hell, maybe it was even written better.
But you know which game I spent $40 on when i got money the beginning of the month? Which game I have replayed about three times in the past couple years? Xenogears. I haven't touched FFIX in nigh on a decade.
Oh sure, I used to love it. I'd defend it to my dying breath. And teh game is still very good. But....it doesn't keep my attention or affection. As well put together as it was, what it was put together from has lost its effect on me. Xenogears has not. Xenogears might be a mess, full of characters who drop into a void never to be heard from again, it might have a ridiculous inability to maintain a tone (think of the Old Butler who tried to save Bart and co. with his Flying Robot then the propeller broke and he had to hop away from all of Shakhan's gunman while they just kinda stared.... And then remember there's a dungeon where we learn about how people are processed food) and it could possibly have the worst dungeons in video game history.
But the story? The ideas and themes in it? Fei and Elly's romance? I'll plow through all of the bad just to get to that good. What Xenogears has is something special and so I will always consider it one of the best JRPGs ever.
Now....enough of that. Here Listen to this smurfing amazing ballad.
