The Age of Apocalypse is upon us all.

Surprised to see this green lit before seeing how well Days of Future Past does, but I love the sound of it. As much as I like Magneto I have been sick of seeing him play the primary villain role. I hope they keep him as an ally or one of the X-Men against the likes of Sinister and Apocalypse. Anyone else still have the entire Age of Apocalypse comic collection?

This doesn't surprise me that much. If this was right after X3 or Origins I'd be really surprised, but the series has been riding pretty high lately. First Class was excellent, The Wolverine was also really good, and we've got Singer back for an adaptation of one of the more iconic X-Men story lines and fans seem to be really excited about it (who wouldn't be though with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and James McAvoy in one movie?). Yeah, it's a bit early to announce another movie, but then again, the studio has probably seen most, if not all, of Days in unfinished form so maybe they are that confident and wanted to lock in the main cast early.

And I do indeed have all four volumes of the Age of Apocalypse in trade paperback. Not to mention the 10 year anniversary series, all the related stuff from recent Uncanny X-Force arcs, and a solid chunk of the Age of Apocalypse ongoing series until I had to drop it for budget reasons.

I like Apocalypse more than I probably should. There's just something appealing about a guy who just wants to kill the weak.

Oh, I love Apocalypse too, and I can't quite figure out why. Maybe his age or his insane power, and the fact he's even taken over the world where others have failed. There is definitely something interesting about him, so I'm glad he will be seeing the big screen. It's good news for the X-Films. I only wish it was not under Fox and lumped in with Disney's Marvel, or vice versa. A crossover is not needed, but it would be nice to have the possibility of using all the marvel characters together and under one studio.

It would be pretty cool to see other Marvel heroes, especially if they actually did show some of the Age of Apocalypse. One of my favorite parts of that event was seeing how much different a lot of characters lives were.

I seriously thought they were leading into Apocalypse back during the third film. It had all the same plot points as the one from the TV show. The cure, Arcangel, Rogue debating whether or not she should get the procedure done, the debate. I went through that whole movie just hoping it would end with an Apocalypse cameo.

I'm just glad that they're starting to adapt actual stories from the comics now. Not sure how much they stuck to those stories in the older movies since I'm not an X-Men expert on that and it was during an era of their story I wasn't familiar with.

If you liked the old cartoon then it's a fair enough adaption to the comics to know the ropes. The 90's cartoon was very good about following comic book stories..not perfect, but much better than some other comic cartoons that have came around. The first X-Men movie upset me at first, because I was hoping something closer to the cartoon would be made into a movie. I got over that though, and enjoy it for the adaption it is, and not for what I wanted it to be at the time.

I guess I need to watch origins and first class... I saw the trailer for the new one this weekend and was interested.... and now the Apocalypse one had me pretty amped. I don't know if I read any of the comics in that arc but I read alot of the lore on the collectible cards at the time and the story was pretty haunting in the cartoon.

Wolverine Origins gets a lot of hate, but X-Men First Class is actually my favorite of all the X films so far. And while Wolverine Origins may not be all that great, there is some entertaining action scenes that should keep you from being bored...it is a kinda messy movie though.

Yeah, Origins is a bit of a mess. When I said the Wolverine was good I was referring to the one released this year.

Oh yeah I meant the Wolverine. Origins was alright but mostly forgettable except for the deliciously cheesy "are you drinking to forget?" "No, I'm drinking to remember" line in one of the endings :D

They had to sum up the first 20 years of the comics in "pastiche" form before moving on to something more recognizable, and it kind of took them two movies to do it. Then the cure story arc comes in, and I was thinking, "this is looking cool."

But they never followed up on the open ending of X3, did they?

Not directly, no. Largely because X3 was despised by almost everyone. I didn't like it very much either. But it is still canon as The Wolverine dealt quite a bit with Logan's difficulties dealing with his having to kill Jean.

X3 and Wolverine Origins are both largely disliked by many, and it hurt them worse that they came out back to back. X-Men: FC and The Wolverine were great movies, but I'm sure the reception of Origins and X3 hurt both films pretty bad too. It's funny how Patrick Stewart says "We need you to hope again." in X-Men's new trailer...feels to me he's asking the audience to give the movie franchise another chance.

I sure hope it gets it. I've been a big fan of this book for a long time. I go way back, I've read the old 60's comics.

Can't say I liked The Wolverine as much as the rest of you. The premise was great but I never once felt worried for Logan's well being even when he was performing smurfing open heart surgery on himself. First Class was awesome, however and felt just like what an X-Men movie is supposed to feel.

The thing that really miffs me about the X-Men movies is that they keep screwing up their own continuity. Anyone who watches First Class and then jumps to X3 will know what I'm talking about. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that maybe while they're jacking with time travel they'll do some timey wimey business to fix that. The Phoenix shall remain the greatest missed opportunity in the whole movie franchise IMO.

However, if you really would like to watch X-Men Origin: Wolverine, ask yourself one question...

How much do you like Deadpool?

If the answer is: I love Deadpool and they better not screw him up.

I was not as crazy about The Wolverine as some that praised it as nearly flawless and yaddi yaddi, but it was step up from the first Wolverine movie. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm also a little tired of too much Wolverine. He's always been my favorite, but he's been hogging up too much screen time. There are a lot of other X-Men characters that I love as well.

I had a work-up for a sequel to Last Stand wherein Sage would restore Rogue's powers and she would be upgraded by Sinister to be Apocalypse's Horseman of Death. Those three characters who got disintegrated by Phoenix at the end of Last Stand would be the other three Horsemen. I didn't have much else apart from a reveal that Apocalypse was actually a version of Onslaught. lol

My friend up in canada went and saw The Wolverine because she likes Hugh Jackman. She said the movie wasn't that great, but she still loved it for Hugh Jackman... oy.

The franchise is indeed headed to apocalypse. :(
