This is something I've been thinking about recently as I think about the lack of creativity and risk seen from the company as of late whereas in the past I feel we saw a lot more creations of different ips and more risky titles.

So, what was your favorite console generation with regards to Square? Discuss.

My favorite console generation of Square (and to an extent Enix) would have to be the Super Nintendo and Playstation years. The games back then just seemed to have more meat, for lack of a better word, to them. Things like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Xenogears were amazing in terms of story and gameplay imo, and I'd really like to see something like those come out from them again.

SNES easily for Square. Final Fantasy IV/V/VI/Legend/Adventure, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana/Evermore and even BoF I. Good times.

i like the games you listed here, but for the most part all of my favorite square games came from the psx era. ffvii-ix, einhander, erghiez(sp?), tactics, etc.

I've never played Einhander, but have seen the name from time to time. What kind of game is that one?

Ps1! It's awesome that the ps2 era had really good FFs and a DQ under one company though.

Fifth and Sixth. On the PlayStation 1 we had Final Fantasy VII - IX, Xenogears, Bushido Blade, Brave Fencer Musashi and Ehrgeiz. Meanwhile in the generation after that we had X, X-2, XI, the beginning of XII, Crystal Chronicles and Kingdom Hearts.

SNES is my favorite for all the games Elskidor mentioned, but PSX was great as well.

I LOVE Contra. I may have to give Einhander a try sometime as I've been really in the mood for side scrolling shooters lately.

I think after thinking about it, I'm going to go with PS1 myself. Also, everyone seems to be forgetting Vagrant story in your PS1 lists. Not that I've ever played that game. I've just always heard that it's great. Also, Parasite Eve!

i have vagrant story downloaded from the psn, but i haven't been able to really get into it. i bet the story is fantastic, but the gameplay is kind of bringing me down i have all this stuff i dunno how to use. :\

Like I said, I've never played it. I've just always heard it was good. Also, I've played a bit of Threads of Fate, and that's a pretty charming game.

PS1 era, because the most memorable FFs to me are on that platform not to forget Vagrant Story of course.

The SNES era had Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy V
