This is so funny. And I agree with him. Lightning rocks.

By the way: This is a joke. The interview never happened.

Motomu Toriyama Admits He Wants to Marry Lightning

In a shocking admission by Final Fantasy XIII and Lightning Returns director Motomu Toriyama, he says that he created Lightning to be like his perfect wife and hopes that one day he will marry someone like her or just marry Lightning herself.

Some have noticed that Toriyama has a slight obsession with Lightning (http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/07/27/more-information-on-lightnings-boob-job-in-lightning-returns-ffxiii-emerge-yes-theyll-jiggle/), focusing on aspects like her breast size over spending time to fix the gameplay or the story in her games. Famitsu has reported that during a Q&A session with the Lightning Returns staff, Toriyama admitted to wanting to marry Lightning.
Q: Why continue Lightning’s story instead of moving onto another unrelated setting?
Nobuhiro Goto (character modeler): I created some character concepts unrelated to Lightning but…
Masaru Suzuki (designer): Toriyama-san demanded that we quit working on that and focus solely on Lightning once more.
Toriyama: I’ll admit that I said those things. There’s no shame in wanting to continue the story of a character that so many people love.
Goto: I would argue that only you love her, Toriyama-san.
Toriyama: That may be the case. But I do love her with all my heart. It’s the reason I wanted every little imperfection corrected in Lightning Returns so of course I wanted her breasts to be bigger and for them to jiggle. It’s only natural for a man to want his woman to look perfect.
Goto: I spent so many nights working on the improved model.
Suzuki: I told him that it was very unhealthy for Goto-san to spend so many hours on that character model. Instead of addressing my concerns, Toriyama-san told me to come up with a husband-like character that would look like himself.
Toriyama: That’s not going in the game though. It’s for my own personal use because I really do want to marry her.
(few seconds of silence)
Toriyama: What? I mean, if I can’t find a girl like her in real life, I will just make a marriage simulation game with Lightning so I can die happy.
Goto: I can never tell if you are serious when you say these things.
Toriyama: I am serious. In fact, I already have a few plans for this game. I doubt I will find a girl in real life who could match Lightning’s beauty and personality.

After assuring reporters that it was all a big joke, the Lightning Returns staff continued to answer questions until Toriyama started punching a reporter who jokingly said that he was going to marry Lightning first.

Of course he wants to marry her, now that he's spent money on breast implants for her :p

Yes, the interview is real as you can see. However as the last lines say, he said it was a joke.

However, it is true, that it is normal to focus on making certain characters attractive. And I am thankful for that. I would marry Lightning but not Queen Brahne, ha, ha, ha.

People may not take those things that serious.

And the marriage sim is a day 1-purchase for me.

I met Toriyama at the Lighting Returns first look event earlier this year. During the interview portion, someone asked a question that implied fans don't really care about Lightning as much as Square-Enix does. The look of disgust on his face was priceless.

LOL. I imagine so.

If Lightning shows she's developed herself a little better, and grew up a bit for her final installment then I will be proud of her and like her better. I kinda started warming up to her in XIII-2.

I do. I would also have no problem with novels about Final Fantasy XIII as it will be hard to continue the story on a console the way the happy ending went.

I'm not the only one who thought that Lighting acted like a grumpy child in the OG ?!?

This is a satirical gaming website, like The Onion. It's not real, haha.

I thought that might have been it. Thanks! That anecdote I posted about Toriyama was 100% true though. The guy really loves Lightning.

Wait, you mean the whole interview is not real? I thought they were joking but that it happened, the whole "After assuring reporters that it was all a big joke, the Lightning Returns staff continued to answer questions until Toriyama started punching a reporter who jokingly said that he was going to marry Lightning first." let me think that the interview was real with the very last part of the punching just being a joke again as in "a light slap or jab while laughing".

I don't love her less, no matter if that happened or not.

Nope, didn't happen. He's probably said things close to that, and as Del pointed out, he does have a great love of the character. This is just sort of parodying that love.

How unfortunate. It would have been better as self-parody with pointing out that it is, like I understood it with the end of the text. I know that Lightning is a new trademark for Square and have no problem with that as not only old things need to be loved as much as we do.

Now that I have seen the website it is pretty obvious, though.

Yeah I was there too with Del, it was hilarious. It was like he was baffled anyone could ever think such a thing much less SAY it.

While the interview is a parody, it's probably what the man really thinks.

Sometimes, you can find more truth in parody and satire articles and interviews than you can in "real" articles and interviews.

Yeah, I doubt he really wants to Marry lighting, I think this was just kind of his way of saying he loves the character more then pretty much any one else out there and having a bit of fun with it. :p
