Gin + tonic + splash of lime = best drink. Discuss.

Jowy

Best drink is a Moscow Mule. Gin and tonics are a nice runner up though.

I prefer a whiskey ginger, with an old fashioned coming in second and a manhattan third. Fun fact: Neel bought me my first ever G&T. They're not bad!

The only time I have blacked out when drinking was from a night of gin. Since that day we are amicably separated.

Gin and tonics are my drink! I like the lime wedge but use a cucumber slice once in a while.

This is the best thread.

If your gin tastes like pine needles, it is time to drink better gin.

Shorty
12-20-2013, 01:02 AM
Tanqueray is super pine-y to me but it seems like one of the most popular brands, and it ain't cheap.

I love me some New Amsterdam. It's so smooth!

Spuuky

There are some expensive pine-y gins. There's nothing wrong with pine-y if that's what you are looking for.

Gin is easily the best liquor and it isn't very close, and Tonic is the simplest and probably best way to drink it.

Bombay Sapphire is better than Tanqueray if you're looking into the "popular, slightly expensive" brands.

Bombay Sapphire is better than Tanqueray if you're looking into the "popular, slightly expensive" brands.

It is largely a matter of taste, but Bombay Sapphire is one of the worst gins that is also one of the most popular. Tanqueray No. 10 is far and away better than Bombay.

Then again, I'm kind of spoiled because the only gin I drink nowadays isn't available outside of Colorado yet.

Shorty

I would prefer Bombay to Tanqueray.

Then it's a good thing that both are manufactured so everybody's happy.

Spuuky

I didn't say it was the best gin, I said it was the best gin in that price range and reputation category. Which I still think is true.

Dr Unne
12-20-2013, 01:21 AM
I'm drinking Bombay Sapphire at this very moment. I've read reviews calling it everything from great to undrinkable. I like it fine myself. I'm drowning it in tonic anyways. I guess it is a matter of taste.

We're still comrades in arms. Gin is our weapon. Lack of gin is our enemy. I'm not sure where I'm going with this other than gin is good.

Jowy

Knowing Sarah, a sixer of Schweppes Diet Tonic Water and bottle o' new amsterdam.

Shorty

Close! You are the one who picks out sixers. I just go for the regular single liter. The rest is all spot on. :)

I drank a bottle of gin last Friday night. Because I like drinking from the bottle when I am drunk.

I kept trying to get people to take a drink of Christmas with me.

This thread seems to make some wild assumptions. People over the age of majority are able to not have had gin, and people under the age of majority are more than capable of having gin.

But look that's just semantics. Let's have a drink and forget about it.

Funny, I'm trying to get into bourbon. Yes, you should try gin.

There needs to be another option:

"People who have only tried gin a couple of times and think it's okay, but haven't really acquired a taste for it yet."

With us, or against us. There is no middle ground.

I'm currently drinking a Gin and Tonic now. Probably one of my favorite drinks. I should try drinking a better Gin than the current Beefeater that I, somehow, still have left.

Any suggestions?

Seriously? No one posted this yet?

Good grief.

I have never had gin. I've always associated it with things that are not my style.. *coughGHETTOcough* .. No seriously .. I've only ever seen people in the ghetto drink it. Every now and then someone in a restaurant would order it , but hardly ever.

I'll try it someday. Maybe Shorty can school me. Shorty.. When I think of you and gin, I think of the orphanage lady in "Annie". JS.

I don't like gin. Or whiskey. Or brandy. Or rum. Well, not on their own, with tonic or a soft drink. I could drink any in a fruity cocktail of some sort.

I don't mind vodka or schnapps, but I much prefer lager.

If you want to have a truly-classy gin experience, I recommend trying New York Distilling Company's Chief Gowanus New-Netherland hopped gin. I'm a big craft beer drinker, and I have had some amazing beer/gin cocktails made with this stuff!

New York Distilling Company's Chief Gowanus New-Netherland hopped gin

That's a lot of words. Beer plus gin... is that really a thing? What kind of beer?

I had Tanqueray 10 this past week for the first time. I can't say I could tell the difference between that and any other gin. Maybe I'm uneducated.

Moogle Chrome

Oh man, is it ever a thing! There are tons of recipes, but my local craft beer bar makes this:
-hopped gin
-gran marnier splash
-squeezed lemon and grapefruit (or juice)
-top with IPA after shaking and pouring over ice
-can use zest from fruit as garnish

It's SO GOOD. Man, now I'm gonna go get one this week sometime.
