So I have a Plot question and it surprises me because I have literally been talking about FFVII's plot for over a decade and I didn't think anything new could occur to me. It's also very simple so I feel dumb now.

Why didn't the Cetra just use Holy to eradicate Jenova back in the day? It destroys all negative things to the Planet and obviously Jenova is precisely that.

Maybe the threat wasn't high enough for Holy to actually work?

Maybe Holy is just generally overrated in usefulness?

Holy is pretty risky in that it might decide humanity is a threat and purge it too. And judging from Advent Children JENOVA cells clearly exist post-Holy anyway.

Well Holy kinda didn't work right in FFVII because Sephiroth held it back and when it finally was able to move, it was too late. It was clearly trying to stop Meteor and even then it couldn't do that as Meteor was so close. i doubt it ever turned its power on Jenova, or what was left of Jenova.

Maybe nobody knew how to work it. I mean, even Aerith says it's junk when you first meet her.

None of them knew how the material system worked.
