Can someone help me understand some of the British coins?

I currently have a 2 pence coin, a 2 pound coin and three 1 pound coins. How much do I have?

I stumbled upon these coins in my penny jar. Every year I count how many US pennies I collect from the change I get from actual purchases; I'm not allowed to get pennies from somewhere on purpose, from Jan 1 -Dec 31 (Sidenote: I collected 716 :D)

EDIT: Probably should change the title to Understanding British coins)

£2 coins are quite cool. If you have one of the earlier ones (they're a relatively new coin) you can pop out the silver middle and have a cool ring!

I'm biased but I do love our coins.

Every time I show a foreigner this heptagonal bad boy it absolutely blows their mind. Some love it, some hate it, but if nothing else it's pretty god damn unique.

50p is my favorite coin, but I didn't see that design when I was there (06)

That coin certainly looks interesting. I sadly know very little abour British currency.

I am Canadian so we have the loonie and the toonie.

I think the toonie is really pretty.

Unsurprisingly, I like the WWF one! I miss NZ money. US money is useless, I always open my wallet and think I have ~*loads of money*~ and then it ends up I have like...five dollars, because all the money looks the same.

My wallet is still bursting with British money that I acquired from my journey earlier this year, and I have yet to empty it out (and probably won't for some time because eh). I do like the 50p coin! I also like the pound coins.

why are all your coins heptagons

go with a real shape, like an American Circle Coin

also, this is my favorite website for currency conversions (http://www.google.com)

I have all but two of the Olympic 50ps! I'll take a picture and share after work (they are in my tip box)

Also there is a new 2013 50p coin

Edit: I lied. I seem to only have 24 after I checked my box :/

Wait, and the coin would still have it's value (the silver middle that is)

As an American I find this entire thread frightening and confusing.

The Australian 50c coins are also a spastic shape but I love 'em. Excellently weighted for use as a projectile, and they also do cool designs from time to time. Here is the standard though.

The $1 and 20c coins also seem to get cool designs from time to time as well. One of my friends is collecting as many of a specific type of 20c coin as he can. I think he has like thirty? Not even that much value but it's been fun stalking around for them. I stole one from some guy once because clearly he didn't need it as much as my buddy.

Love the 50p coin. Hate the 2p coin. Missing the 25 cent coin :(

The cool shapes help with finding the coins in your purse. :D

The sad thing about australian coins is that we dont use fancy names. It's always x cent coin or x dollar coin. No pennies, quaters, dimes or what have you.

I propose we start calling 50c coins halfies and $2 coins dubloons

After moving from to Canada from Merka, I'm annoyed that my wallet weighs 5x as much from having to carry dollar coins around in it.

To this day I get weirded out when I see reference to dollars with the Queen on them.

Nah. You can't use it. But it is cool and you can show people how strong you are by popping it out with ur bare fingertips

I love British coins. I get forever confused in Aus because the $2 coin is smaller than a $1.

Moving from Canada to the UK makes your wallet even heavier, believe it or not.

I'm not super fond of Swedish coins - I think they're rather bland and boring in comparison to other countries' coins.

It's happened more than once that I nerded out over cool coins and spent hours looking through different ones on wikipedia. Like look at these japanese tael sycees, are they not a thing of beauty?

I love the 50p coin. They made it 90% less dangerous by slimming it down a lot. I have an old 50p coin and it was faaaaaat.

Of course, the real fun with the British coins comes from when you put them all together:
