James Avery passed away, so here is a thread to reflect on his work as Uncle Phil and Shredder (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItUwk77U4Lk).

I had a particular article in mind to link to, but on second thought it contains too many expletives to post somewhere that uses swear filters. It probably gets irritating to be associated with one character in your career that doesn't really showcase your range or ambition, but the character of Uncle Phil was awesome in that it showed a successful, hard-working and tolerant man who was a good person, and cared for our would-be street rat when his mother wasn't able to and his own father didn't care to. It probably seems silly, but I feel a little like Uncle Phil was everyone's dad, for a while. And for all of Will's fat jokes, Uncle Phil had to be in pretty good shape to throw Jazz off of the porch all those times. RIP.

This sucks :( I loved him as Uncle Phil and Shredder. Used to watch Fresh Prince all the time when it aired old reruns.

What? Really?

He was my favourite actor and character in Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Rest in Peace, James. May you soon return to the Planet.

I saw this on another board and thought it was a joke.

I...I'm so sad. I want to cry.

RIP Uncle Phil. ;___;

Always upsetting to see someone you admired pass on.

:( Very sad news. The man was a very talented actor - Uncle Phil made me laugh and Shredder scared me as a kid.

Fresh Prince is the only show I can watch a whole marathon of every year, eventhough I've already seen all the episodes. This goes without saying, but he will be missed. I had no idea he was 68 though. He looked young for his age!

I was going to say rest in peace, but that wasn't really Uncle Phil's style. Definitely played the best characters in Fresh Prince and TMNT though.
