View Full Version : And I thought Disc 2 was crazy (Spoilers)
Disc 3 is battrout insane! Edea's possessed, Rinoa's in a coma, sorceress from the future, sorceress drifting in space, super advance technological hidden city that didn't share its tech with anyone (I invented a place like that once), going to space, moon full of monsters, catch Rinoa in space, Rinoa is a sorceress, Adel has been set free.
We didn't twist the story!
It was already bending when I started playing
We didn't twist the story!
And when the playing ends it will still bend and bend and bend
We didn't twist the story!
Discuss.

Pretty sure I commented on this in another thread.
I'm so slow with games. It takes me a day to do like... one area. I take the scenic routes.
I like disc 3 because of the way the plot changes.
Disc 1 plot: A --------- B
Disc 2 plot: A ----------B
Disc 3 plot: A ------- G ---K~~~~~~R ^^^^^^^^>>>>>>><<<Q ===L (http://home.eyesonff.com/final-fantasy-viii/153808-torij-plays-final-fantasy-viii-2.html#post3354207)
Yes you did, but you didn't have a song parody to end out on. Therefore, you can't sue :colbert:

I wasn't planning to sue, I was just saying the Disc 3 is da bomb :colbert:
I like all the sorceress junk and how the game suddenly feels like a really odd dream that started with a plot but then threw most of it out the window while retaining the very core essence of it all.
That's probably where the popular Squall theory comes from. I like the concepts behind all the sorceresses and looking forward to learning more about time compression. It's interesting that Ultimecia's main goal is just to live in a world where only she can exist instead of wanting to rule/destroy the world or anything like that. Like the ultimate introvert.
The Laguna sequences on disc 3 felt a little underwhelming compared to the first two discs, though.

Was Square Soft making a statement on introverts? Are we all evil? Yes, I think that was Square's goal.
What was Laguna's section in Disc 3? I can't remember.

That's what i'm trying to remember. If it is the Winhill section then I have to say ToriJ is objectively wrong about it being underwhelming, and I question his taste in everything ever:colbert:

The bit where you battle the dragon and then later when you're captives of Esthar and then rescue Ellone. The latter is certainly better than the former but it felt weaker after what you experience in the first two discs.

Beginning of Disc 2.

Oh that's right! It's not as good as the other ones, but I do love the dragon section too. I love the music.

Oh yeah the Esthar scenes were kinda blah. BLAAHHHHH. Like I get it, colourful walls, okay. Let me out now pls
yeah Esthar is a little underwhelming in subsequent visits. It's nice, but like, it feels lifeless. Even more lifeless than Winhill which at least has personality even if it's so small there are barely any NPCs

Disc three was probably my least favourite disc of FFVIII. It's definitely not short on action though. I vastly prefer the first half of the game to the second. I'm currently playing through it at the moment and have just got the Ragnarok. My opinion, however, is largely the same as ever, which is a shame as I was rather looking forward to Esthar.
