So I was walking to get the train when a girl outside a deli was offering passers by 'morphine chicken samples'. Obviously, this combination piqued my interest. Anyway, on second listen it turns out she was offering 'more free chicken samples'. I walked away disappointed.

Any of you ever mishear what someone has said with confusing/hilarious results?

I am still used to Eyes on Each Other being the second forum and my imagination went to all sorts of places when I saw this thread on the main page.

I apparently have terrible hearing so I am always misunderstanding people until my brain connects the dots, slaps me/itself around a little and then I continue. I like to pretend I never said "huh?" like an idiot :monster:

I believe the term for this is called Mondegreen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen).

I have no substance other than that to add. I mishear things all the time, though. All the time.

I misread things more than I mishear people, though mishearing someone happens a lot.

I'm bad at mishearing names

Does that mean you're good at hearing names properly? ;)

Morphine chicken for dinner and pot brownies for desert. I can't even imagine what the end result would be.

I don't mishear things very often anymore, but it always takes a while for things people say to me to register in my mind. I pretty frequently will say "what? or "huh?" after someone says something only to pretty immediately realize what that person has said after asking them to repeat it. I've gotten better about that though.
