Cleverbot used to be more clever, yeah. However, it's probably "learned" from the users over the years.

That's funny. I was recently just remember all the weird conversations I'd had with the SmarterChild bot on AOL Instant Messenger back in the day. Makes me wonder how far the original Elle bot would have come by now (at least I think that was it's name)

I kind of have a feeling that there is a sort of limit on how much a bot can develop based on the conversations it has, and that's why new bots are being developed all the time, to sort out the limitations of earlier chatbot programs/algorithms/whatevers.

I keep trying to have intelligent conversations with Cleverbot, but he/she always lets me down. I know someone who was terrified of that Majora's Mask creepypasta thing and swears that he talked to the spirit of Ben through Cleverbot based on the one time he used it, and he refuses to use it again. I don't get anything that fun.

Today I asked Cleverbot for direction in life.

"An amazing band?" was Cleverbot's response

"No. I don't have that great a skill with instruments. Do you have any other ideas for what I can do with my life."

"No"

"Are you lost and confused in your life?"

"No"

"Well what do you do with your life?"

"I'm just chillin'"

That was the end of that. It was a pretty boring conversation.
