From Wikipedia:
Hot chicken or Nashville hot chicken is a type of fried chicken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_chicken) that is a local specialty of Nashville, Tennessee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville,_Tennessee), in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States). In its typical preparation, it is a portion of breast, thigh, or wing that has been marinated in buttermilk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttermilk), breaded, sauced using a paste that has been heavily spiced with cayenne pepper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cayenne_pepper), and pan-fried. It is served atop slices of white bread (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_bread) with pickle chips.
Hot chicken is so very delish and yummy in my tummy...

Prince's Hot Chicken Shack is the #1 most famous joint for hot chicken in Nashville and has been featured on the Travel Channel as well as the Food Network website. It's notorious for being the go-to place for drunk people to sober up after a night out on the town.

But. Prince's was always way outta my so I've never been there.

There's a place in my 'hood called Hot Stuff and MAN. Is that shhh the business.
They have Mild, Medium, Hot & up to XXXHot (maybe even 4XHot), but even the Medium is pretty on point in terms of spiciness.. I ordered the XHot for my ex and he nearly choked (this is a dude who typically has an iron stomach and loooves spicy food). Served with Colonial brand white bread and pickle chips.. Side of potato salad ... YUM YUM YUM.

Detroit (and MI over all) has quite a few interesting things! I'm sure most of you have heard of Coney dogs (or at least chili dogs?) and that seems to be a specialty here...

Lafayette Coney Island is THE PLACE to go if you ever visit Detroit. The menu is super simple, you've got coneys, fries, and drinks. if you go in with a bigger group they take everyones order and shout everything back to the kitchen and never get anyones order wrong.

And then there's the infamous Tony's on I-75 and Birch run...

Yes, that is a pound of bacon BLT. Yes, thats a steak knife instead of a toothpick holding it together. It's glorious. First time I went there I made the mistake of getting a club sandwich. I ate a quarter of it lol. If you like bacon this place is a must see.

Do you like beer? Of course you do! We're pretty widely known for our beer these days. Going to a brewery is my hangout of choice, over just about any other bar. Theres way too many to list but My favorites are Kuhnhenn Brewing Company (http://www.kbrewery.com/index.html), Dragonmead (http://www.dragonmead.com/), and Sherwood Brewing Company (http://sherwoodbrewing.com/).

Here is a picture of beer. Because beer.

Also, there's apple orchards and cider mills everywhere. Hot apple cider and cider donuts. This makes fall my absolute favorite time of the year. Need I say more? Traverse City is known for their cherries, they have a cherry festival in the summer but I've never had the opportunity to go :( I'm sure there's more unique foodstuffs here too that I'm not thinking of because I've always lived here.

As long as you don't claim to have the ACTUAL Coney Island I'm okay with this. (It's in New York.)

Where I'm originally from, we have apples and that's cool I guess. Where I live now is about an hour from Philadelphia and that can only mean one thing: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.gadling.com/media/2009/02/800px-patscheesesteak.jpg

When I was stationed in Louisiana and Mississippi, we'd make runs over to New Orleans once in a while.

We'd usually stop by Bear's to get Po'Boys. I'd usually get roast beef. Fried seafood is also quite popular.

It's kinda like a cross between a hoagie and a hot italian beef sandwich. You get a baguette with roast beef (maybe some ham or turkey), cabbage, pickles, tomatoes, mayo, spicy mustard, and roast beef gravy.
