BJ and I are building an app! He's the coder, I'm the designer. I thought this would be a good opportunity to teach myself Illustrator, and it's been going pretty well.

I completed at least the first draft of the "mascot." Eventually we'd like to make it customizable, but we're not quite there yet.

Any critique is appreciated! Both in quality of the work (it's my first vector, after all) and just if there's anything you don't like about it and suggestions for tweaks. I had a little trouble with the "hair" since CS3 doesn't have as many gradient features as the newer versions. I'm also not sure how I feel about the nose, but I thought it better to stop screwing with it.

I think this looks rather cute. You should get rid of the nose but if you want to keep it, you may want to position the eyes a bit higher than it is now, because it looks awkward.

I see where Jeff is coming from about the eyes sitting so low compared to the nose, but for whatever reason it doesn't look off to me. Maybe because I think of babies as having huge noggins, and this is obviously stylized over realistic.

Anyway, it looks pretty cute. Couldn't hurt to try what Jeff suggested, and see how it looks.

I gave it a try... I can't decide if I prefer it or not. With "cutsey" graphics the nose usually falls between the eyes. Example:

I'll mess with the eye placement though and see if I can find a spot that's better. I tried getting rid of the nose but that was just weird. Maybe I'll try making it less visible.

Thank you! I do my best to work rhymes in when the opportunity arises.

There better be multiracial babies. :stare:

Also, throw a Coke™ in there.

I agree with Proto, plus it probably needs a heavier outline for the look your going for. Nice work!

Alright, I moved the eyes up 20pt, thickened the outline from 10pt to 15pt, and BJ suggested a darker bodysuit so I made it match the eyes.

Hopefully BJ can figure out how to customize the mascot for version 2.0, which would mean including mult-racial babies. No Coke though... maybe a poral bear baby, if that counts. Oooo, that would be so cute!

Looking at them next to each other, I'm unsure which I placement I like better. I thought I liked them moved up, but maybe not.

It definitely looks more pleasing to the eyes considering that you had changed the jammies' color to match the eyes.

>>> Not that I want to butt in but you should give him pupils,

51846 a baby pacifier would look good on his neck too..:luca:

No pupils! That's such a guy thing to say. Ladies don't like pupils.

I think the pacifier would be cute, but this is going to be a small icon so the detail would be lost anyway.
