So, I work in a call centre. Due to severe IT issues, they have turned off all outbound work, and the inbound work is slooooooow. I have averaged 7 calls a day over the past 4 days! I work 7 hours a day - not bad skiving, tbh.

Unfortunately, at one call an hour, this leaves a lot of free time. Even more unfortunately, internet usage is monitored and no mobile phones are allowed on the floor (unless you're on a break).

I am pretty bored and I want to go to sleep. Only 1 hour 45 minutes to go! I wish I had something to do to pass the time. xD

EoFF, how do you waste time when you're hardly workin'?

Facebook, Candy Crush, #eoff, sleep, eat, play vidya games, watch t.v., interwebz, read, etc.

I don't think you can do some of those things at work. Particularly the sleeping and video game things. :p

I read. I don't really have enough time to actually get engrossed in a book, so it's usually magazines, children's picture books or coffee table/art books. We also have a box of rubber bands in a far corner of an office that I attempt to shoot more rubber bands into. When I worked in a call centre I would spend hours playing solitaire.

We have internet access at work but a lot of popular websites are banned. Luckily EOFF is not one of them so I spend most of my downtime on here :p

When I sat at my old desk, I was blocked from the rest of the office. I used to spend quiet late nights playing FFVIII on my PS Vita :shobon:

Getting paid to run around Balamb Garden challenging students to games of Triple Triad... felt really good.

I would play the hell out of solitaire if it was on our computers. Sadly it is not. :( Damn you, gov't departments, expecting us to actually do our work!

I don't get down time. I am always busy at work. If the systems go down there is always something else to do. I like it though, the days at work fly by.

Huh. When I worked at a call center any time they had issues which prevented us from actually doing anything for customers and the calls ended up few and far between because they now took 30 seconds instead of anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, they'd let us crack out our phones. There were a couple of times I was sitting there playing FFIV on my phone (emulated) between calls.

Otherwise it was no phones allowed, but when you were sitting there for a good half hour between calls it was either that or have everyone go stir crazy.

when I was really bored during my internship I just posted on EoFF. I think I was running one of those screen name tournaments during that week.

I know your pain Shauna. My call centre actually forbids phones on the floor at all even on break but then I do work for an Amazon brand and they're paranoid about people stealing customer information. Seriously. we've had reflective window linings put up, we've got a new door coming in that's essentially an isolation pod preventing us from tailgating. As if that isn't enough we even have our own personal Security Guard on the door to the calling floor despite there being like 5 brands in the building and every door including the front door can only be opened from the inside or with a security pass.

Because our net is AT&T they've blocked eoff and most other sites (I can't even go on wikipedia or tech support forums which may be useful in resolving customer queries) so I spend my downtime either trying to make more work for me to do (see if I can do extra duties, a training course or similar) or I just wind up reading the papers, we have access to the Daily Mail, Telegraph and BBC News (though not sports) which means I have on some days read all 3 sites.

I listen to talk radio at work or throw on some FrankieonPCin1080p videos.

With my current job that doesn't happen. The only time I ever had downtime was when I wasn't trained in all of my job duties. I really like that because the day goes by faster and when I get downtime I get lazy. I need to constantly be going full speed until I clock out or my work gets sloppy. When I was a secretary my workload was either completely insane (email from boss with some huge ass attachment and blue comic-sans font: "jassie i need paralegal do research on the line to learn and then study this contract and tell me if it is good, also make website and business plan asap for meeting tomorrow") or I'd have nothing to do for like a whole month because the boss isn't doing his work. During those particular months I'd just do what I do on the internet when I'm at home, minus the porn. Sounds nice on paper but he was the worst boss ever and I wouldn't take that job back for forty dollars an hour. :|

I'm self employed so... pretty much with everything I can find in my room.
