View Full Version : [Art] New guy, Etchin n' Sketchin

03-01-2014, 03:33 AM
Sup guys, so, I have a degree in fine art, but have terrible issues with motivation and making use of what talent I have. Not that uncommon a problem thou I'm sure..

I've been working really hard lately on forcing myself to take on commissions and to just try and sketch more, to try to enjoy the process again, so I'll sporadically post some of the stuff I've been up to lately as well as random older stuff. Both FF related and otherwise :D

A guy on twitter asked me to draw Cid off of FFVII a while back, so I'll post that effort up here for starters!

I like having requests, as it provides me with something to do since I usually end up not doing anything for myself. That's a totally awesome drawing of Cid, btw!

03-01-2014, 05:19 AM
Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm finding having a deadline, or a specific request to cater for helps.

03-01-2014, 05:24 AM
POAST MORE. I love that Cid... I have a thread with my artinations floating around here somewhere too :3

03-01-2014, 05:54 AM
You should draw freya..... Just saying :shifty:

03-01-2014, 09:56 AM
Okay, that Cid looks pretty damn nice.

Now Draw a picture of Sabin Suplexing the following....

Vladimir Putin
and Bill O'Riely

Very impressed, ES! Looking forward to seeing more of your work :D

How about a picture of Cloud, Tifa and Barrett being forced to sit down and drink tea?

03-01-2014, 12:09 PM
I am jealous of your artistic talents.

That Cid can pass for concept art.

03-01-2014, 07:36 PM
Thanks guys, and I'll keep some of those ideas in mind :)

Just finished doing this for someone during the week.

03-01-2014, 07:39 PM
damn bro, these are bitchin

I mentioned somewhere already that I've been trying to learn my way around colouring images digitally, here's something I cooked up a few weeks ago. The base drawing isn't fantastic, but I think the colouring is pretty decent. It was a sketch which I was doing in practice for making a Zack piece, which will be similar to the Squall one I posted above. I'll be starting tomorrow hopefully :)

Some fine art and a fine name. Seems like you'll be a fine new member. :D

03-02-2014, 03:54 AM
Wow these are great :jess:

I just got started, so I am nowhere near your skill level.

If you take requests, would you mind drawing Rinoa or Garnet please :D?

03-02-2014, 05:13 PM
That Squall is amazing and that's the best looking picture of Zack I've seen.

Having awful trouble finding a reason to do anything the last week or two, bleh..

Here's some old stuff to enthuse those interested.

Some photos I had in my degree exhibition. I can click and point a camera sometimes when needs be.

I honestly thought you'd drawn those for a moment...

Excellent photos though!

I can't quite say exactly why, but I really love that first photo. It's something about the character. Like taking a picture of an old man with lots of lines on his face from his years of experience, that ball has clearly been through wars of it's own!

I've been busy with everything outside of art lately :(

Buut, my girlfriend just launched her website yesterday, she's pretty beastly with a pen, so maybe some of you would like to take a look at her work if you're bored :)

With those kinda technical skills it would be pretty great to see them put to use to make some original work. Go crazy :monster:

Digging that second photo with the dude sitting in the stadium. Though I think your pictures would be better with a wider angle. I like the idea with the ball, but it looks a bit unbalanced.

Honestly with all of the photo's they could all have been done better, and I intend to try and re-shoot similar ideas again at some point, I think they have potential, but I didn't make the absolute most of them (yet.)

Thanks for the input thou, re making original work, I'm not quite sure I have the skills and imagination for it yet, although I'm well aware that it's the sort of thing you need to work through and make some crap before things click, buuuuuuut I'm still kind of too uptight with my drawings and even with how I make them, so I've gotten myself a sketchbook pretty much entirely for scribbling and not giving a trout how bad things look sometimes, it's helping :P

I generally share those on instagram, it's good to share the stuff you're making even when it's not your best I find, it helps with the fear of failure and to not get too het up in how all of your work is perceived.

In other news, I was pretty hungover yesterday, so drew something cheerful to make me feel better :D

Sup guys! I'm alive, been super busy. Quit my job and have been doing art and stuff, have some exhibitions coming up soon, one as soon as next Friday actually! I've been taking a lot of new photos if anyone would like a look. I also finally made my own website, which was hell, I'm pretty impatient so it was a herculean task on my behalf, to not smash my laptop :P

Here are the links if anyone wants a look :)
