Inspired by Psychotic wrestling game.

NationStates allows you to run your own country and address various issues which develops your country accordingly. I felt like giving it another run using EoFF themes so you can find the nation here (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=eoff).

Everyday the game gives you a new issue to address. It's basically choosing between the best of a bunch of lousy options. You can dismiss it altogether, but then the country doesn't really develop so for this playthrough I'm going to address them all and see how things work out. Here's the default description the nation got once I got set up:

The Community of EoFF is a fledgling, genial nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate population of 5 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

The large government devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 27%, but much higher for the wealthy. A robust private sector is led by the Information Technology, Gambling, and Uranium Mining industries.

Crime is relatively low. EoFF's national animal is the chocobo, and its currency is the gil.

Now to get star-- good lord, I have four issues already.

Should Democracy Be Compulsory? [unaddressed]
Nudists Demand Time In Sun [unaddressed]
Uranium Deposit Promises To Enrich EoFF [unaddressed]
Cloning Research Promises New Breakthrough [unaddressed]

Why am I not surprised EoFF is involved in uranium and cloning research?

voting is voluntary.

the country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry.

Well, that isn't so-- wait a minute.

EoFF's national animal is the chocobo, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation

I just want to point out that the spiritualism of Samdinavia is worshiping the Goddess and her glorious Uterus of Yoni Sisterhood. We burn Christians--and all who support the Patriarchy--at the stake.

My last four issues went through after two hours and I got a new issue immediately after that. Usually it is a day by day thing. If you have it set to two you get one per morning and one per afternoon.

Bah, next issue is a boring tax thing. I can either cut spending, tax the rich or let people choose what they spend their taxes on.

citizens select which government department gets their income tax gils each year.

That was anti-climatic.

Crime is relatively low.

I'm sure that was in no way related to-- oh, who am I kidding.

Next issue is about the budget. Should we give more money to education, the military, health and social welfare or give everyone a tax cut?

WildRaubtier
03-02-2014, 03:30 PM
EDUCATION

Jinx

Education or Health and Social Welfare

If you're modeling this country after EoFF/EoEO, anyways.

Ayen
03-02-2014, 04:10 PM
Has anyone tried the ripple effect for your flag? It makes it look pretty good (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=essancee)

That's my off-duty nation there to reflect my own choices. Though I get the feeling it wouldn't be too different from EoFF, I tend to lean towards the left anyway.

Edit: If you change your theme to conservative or liberal it has a new category based off an extreme right and left view. In the conservative view EoFF is categorized as 'Gay Marriage State'

Liberal categorizes us as 'Normal'

Edit edit:
a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway.

Next issue is basically whether or not to legalize euthanasia.

Madonna

That texture effect is neat; I will have to update my national flag and the regional flag soon. It has been ages.

Isn't it great. I just looked at my government spending and people.

No money to defense, 14% to Healthcare, 20% to Education, and 41% to welfare. As it should be. Only 24% to administration surprised me since it's the same percentage as Tori's EoFF nation.

And there are only three things that will kill you in my country: old age, acts of god and getting lost in the wilderness. And old age makes up 94% of those deaths. Ironic given I named my country Vivisection I guess.

13% Murder
82% Old Age

Government: 7% Industry
18% Welfare/Healthcare/Education
39% Administration

62% Private Sector

EoFF
Deaths: 2% Acts of God
6% Murder
40% Cancer
52% Old Age

Government: 2% Healthcare
7% Defense
21% Administration
31% Education
36% Welfare

The Democratic Republic of Ashopia is a fledgling, safe nation, notable for its burgeoning Ferret population. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.
The enormous government concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Education and Healthcare are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 29%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is led by the Cheese Exports industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Door-to-door Insurance Sales.
Crime is well under control. Ashopia's national animal is the Ferret, and its currency is the Ashi.

Am I doing it right?

WildRaubtier

Bungee Jumping contributed to 2% of my population's deaths.

That means 120,000 of the people alive in my country will die jumping off bridges.

Does that count as suicide?

the government is avowedly atheist.

This comes as a surprise to no one.

Some people say EoFF's policy on free speech has gone too far.

Looks like someone has been reading EoEO.

"These days, anyone says whatever they want with no regard to what kind of dribble is coming out of their mouths!"

Definitely been reading EoEO.

"It's gone too far. We should go back to the good old days, when if someone started talking garbage, we'd smack them one."

No, Vivi, I can't give you free reign to smack people you disagree with.

"We need more free speech, not less," argues civil rights campaigner Billy Singh. "Free speech allows ideas to be explored, challenged, and discussed in a productive, open forum. It teaches our kids to be critical thinkers. And dirty words, of course, but that's just the price you pay."

Who the hell is Billy Singh?

"The right to free speech is a central tenet of our system of democracy," says religious leader Maria Brown. "But surely the right to not have your religious beliefs mocked by others is worth something, too? We mustn't put up with intolerance!"

Didn't you get the memo? THIS IS ATHEIST COUNTRY! *kicks Maria into a bottomless pit*

New York Times Democracy! That was the first category I ever gotten when I first started playing this game way back.

Meanwhile, in The Republic of Essancee:

all industry is owned and run by the government.

Socialists! I'm also 87,353rd in the world for Largest Pizza Delivery Sector. EoFF is 68,179th in the same thing.

"I don't object to the amount of tax, I object to where it's being spent," says social reformer Colin Falopian. "I'd like to see everyone have a choice as to where their frogs go every time they fill out a tax return. Everyone would feel a lot better about opening their wallets if they had a say as to where the money went. I think you'd see a lot more public money going to education and a lot less to business."

This paragraph had me really confused about the hip new slang kids are using today, until I remembered that my national currency is the frog. :I

the right to free speech is being drastically curtailed.

The next issues have to do with mandatory organ donation and interfering with television to reward people for positive portrayals of random minorities.

Look, it's America! (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=amerikal)

The Nomadic Peoples of Taslvania is a tiny, safe nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed population of 8 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. "How can a boy hope to develop properly into a man if he's being brought up by poofs? A father figure is not supposed to behave as if it is 'okay' to be, um, romantically invested in another man - and the same goes for lesbians! Why? Because it is not okay. It'll just give them gay! Think about it: say you have two gay Cobbsquatchs - they can't have children because nature did not provide them with the tools and if God wanted gays to have kids then they would have those tools. Kalevalastan is now categorized as an "Anarchy," with "World Benchmark" Civil Rights, a "Very Strong" Economy, and "Superb" Political Freedoms.

The Free Land of Kalevalastan is a large, genial nation, renowned for its irreverence towards religion. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 56 million live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

The minute, liberal, pro-business government, or what there is of one, juggles the competing demands of Education, Commerce, and Social Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 7%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Woodchip Exports, Soda Sales, and Uranium Mining industries.

The roads are notorious throughout the region for their peril, the government is pursuing a new programme aimed at promoting cultural sophistication, goose owners exercise their pets at a snail's pace or risk a court appearance, and the government is outsourcing itself. Damn, how did you get a high score in each category? Every time my economy goes up either civil rights or political freedom goes down, and when civil rights or political freedom goes up the economy suffers.
The game might measure civil rights, political freedom, and economy as the big three important factors, but they are not the only metrics in the game, and increasing one is not to the detriment of another. The issues you tackle affect your nation in large variety of ways, from Authoritarianism to Youth Rebelliousness, and while some things are give and take, some issues just straight up affect one thing (I imagine; I do not have a GameFAQ for this). So you can have a strong economy with great civil and political liberties. You can get there if that is what you want, but if you look at my Trend graph, you can see it can be a journey.

I am now a 'Father Knows Best State'. After being an Iron Fist Socialist and a Corrupt Dictatorship. And my army is comprised of toddlers that were abandoned on church steps as babies.
All of this sounds horrible. I am glad to see someone do something other than I would, because it is cool to see how another might envision a world.

Crime is pervasive, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Kalevalastan's national animal is the goose, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the rock.
Welcome aboard, Kalevala. I got all these rocks and I was wondering where I trade them in for real money?

I'm making EoFF students wear uniforms. Not just any uniforms...

 Garden uniforms.
