I mean he's said to be a gentle giant who can speak with animals but I mean, what is up with that? Why does he speak beaver and how did he meet the group anyway?

I think I read at some point that this stuff was better explained in the Final Fantasy II novelization. I should see if a translation exists and read that someday.
