Ok, so some of you know that I have chronic kidney disease... well I have been on dialysis for over a year and today is a landmark day for me. When I was diagnosed with CKD back in 2008 it was a shock to be sure, I was told that I had at least 10 years before I would even need dialysis, let alone a transplant... cut a long story short my kidney (I only have 1) failed a lot quicker then anyone thought and had about 6% kidney function when I had my fistula put in (10% is normally the time people start dialysis/get a transplant) and then just 6 weeks later I started dialysis. At this point my weight was 123kg, now being that I was severely ill my weight increased till it plateaued out at 131kg, my doctor (a kidney specialist) said I need a weight of 119kg before he could realistically start doing the work up for my transplant (as my brother is kind enough to be my donor I get to bypass the waiting list) and today is that day, after coming off dialysis my dry weight was 118.8kg!!! I am so happy and wanted to share with you guys ^^:D:jess:

Congrats, man! You've gone a long way since you've started, and now you're at your ideal dry weight for you to start your next step for getting that transplant. :) Or at least I hope that's the case if I'm reading your post correctly.

Well I was going to reply "you've become a summoner?" but that is a great accomplishment so congratulations!

My partner was on dialysis for 5 years before his transplant. 1 year is really awesome, but still one year too many because I understand that it is not a pleasant experience to have to go through, to say the least. Congratulations! :)

I have to say going to dialysis isn't that bad for me, I don't mind it in the slightest, of course there are bad days... for example just yesterday I was taking myself off for the first time... I forgot to clamp one of the lines and my blood started pouring out... it was very shocking to see how fast the blood came out of the tube, needless to say I won't be making that mistake again. Thankfully I was wearing black so the blood didn't show up on my top/trousers.

Other then that I find myself actually enjoying my time there, I get to meet with people in the same condition as me plus you know... the hot nurses xD. I have made a lot of friends there and I am the nurses favourite, not only do I always have a cheery disposition, but I make them chocolate fudge cake and I do most of the work myself (setting up my machine, cleaning it at the end and do my BP and other things).

I am only having the work up done because I have lost the weight, and my brother is a match, if the work up says he isn't a match I will be placed on the bottom of the waiting list... just gotta hope he is suitable.

My partner was one of unfortunate ones that had all the nausea, etc. that can happen after dialysis. You just get over one and then you have to go back for the other. You are lucky in that sense.

Being that your brother is the one that will be donating the kidney for you, I think that you have a very very high probability that he will be a match. :)

Ouch, I have one of those unfortunate people who feel really ill after the dialysis in my hospital transport, I feel so sorry for here every time I see her :/
