52884"Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC and many other games that are hosted by Gamespy are set to be shut down on May 31st. Gamespy issued an announcement on their site confirming that their online servers for all games that they host will soon cease to be in service:

Effective May 31, 2014, GameSpy will cease providing all hosted services for all games still using GameSpy.

If you have any questions about how this impacts your favorite title please contact the game’s publisher for more information.

Thanks for a great ride!"

It's still unclear whether or not using a direct IP will allow you to play.

I'll be sad to see the online service for Halo finally reach an end.

Over the years, I've met plenty of great friends while playing Halo online. I haven't played in a while, but I'll miss going through the familiar levels and just having a chat with good company.

Bit sad. Halo had a huge impact on the FPS genre and I've got mad nostalgia for it.

I never really got into playing this game online so this is not that big a deal to me.
