How do you like your Final Fantasy?

Some FF's are silly, some are serious, some mix it up. So, if you the decider, which would you go for? Fun, light hearted, silly and witty/hilarious? Perhaps you prefer your tales to be dark, serious, gritty pieces of work! Think Adam West Batman vs. Christian Bale Batman. What do you go with?

Considering IX and X are my favorites, I think I like the lurve stories more than the tone.

I've tried to add a couple of examples to each option in the poll. Hopefully it gives a better idea of what I'm getting at and makes it easier to choose... although despite all that I'm STILL unsure myself. xD

I went with humor in a serious story like Lord of the Rings because I find it to be the perfect balance. I like my humor, but I don't want it to be the sole driver of the game's plot. Game of Thrones is another example I'd use just because their ability to go from a gritty dark tale of death and having those humorous moments in-between is something I appreciate.

Final Fantasy is always at its best when it's going for some serious payoff with the characters. You can't really say you've gotten into one of these games until a particular character strikes you as "identifiable" with your personality. So therefore, when the game goes for dark and gritty (ff2, ff4, ff6, ff7, ff12) you tend to identify more with the characters...after all, the real world is quite dark and gritty itself.

I much preferred it when Final Fantasy wasn't taking itself so seriously and could poke fun at itself and the conventions.

I'm not really too fussed about whether it is silly or serious or a love story. I just wish they were how they used to be. I liked them up to and including X. After that, I haven't liked any. My favourites were VII and IX.
