View Full Version : Your strawberries are about to go bad; what do you do?

While pawing through your fridge you stumble upon two containers of strawberries you forgot you purchased. Was it to make preserves? Smoothies? You can't remember, but their dark, mushy exterior tells you the horrors of their soon-to-be-moldy fate. What do you do with them?

I don't eat strawberries.

As for other fruit, I usually throw them out. I am more wasteful than I should be.

Usually I get to them too late and they have already hopped off the train at mouldsville. :(

Either throw them out or put 'em in a smoothie.

Yep, smoothie. But if they're dark and mushy, they go in the trash. No thanks.

(Note: I feel guilt for the fact that we don't have a compost bin but I don't want to do anything with the mulch they accumulate so oh well.)

Cut them up, dunk them in sugar. enjoy.

It's pretty bad for you..

Fresh strawberries? Dice them, smother with sugar, refrigerate for 24 hours, serve with whipped cream the level of sugar involved is horrific but they taste amazing.

Strawberries about to go off? Probably smoothie them unless I'm not in the mood and therefore they could wind up in the bin.

Depending on how many strawberries there are and how much jam there is left in the fridge, I would either make jam (which you can make pretty healthily if you use honey as a substitute for sugar syrup) or I'd mix them into some muffins/cupcakes.

If they're still in edible condition, then eat 'em or free them for later use.

Eat them anyway. Grab life by the horns, #yolo, etc.

I would sit on the kitchen floor, stare at my open fridge and cry.

Feed them to my child.

.................. I don't eat strawberries.

And they never go bad 'cuz I buy them for my girl and she winds up scarfing them within 2 days. Or less.

We got her a carton of them once.. And I was like "DO NOT EAT THEM ALL!" ... and she's all "Okay Mommy!"

I check on her and she hands me the container with -1- left. And she goes "I didn't eat all of them!"

Major facepalm.

Dodgy strawberries just go. Mushy fruit and I don't get on well at all.

If they're good, Danielle will eat them. If they aren't, they're going in the bin. This is why I keep an eye on all the expiry dates of the stuff in our fridge and make careful purchases, because I hate binning food.

Devour all the strawberries in one sitting.

People who put sugar on their strawberries confuse me. If you get a good batch of strawberries, you shouldn't need sugar. Anyway, I would make a smoothie with Activa yogurt.

I eat strawberries sparingly as it is. I'll eat a few with the next meal just to get a bit more of my money's worth and then dump them.
