View Full Version : Let's Play Chrono Trigger

05-01-2014, 06:51 AM
Okay so I've seriously never played this game and I've heard a lot about it. So I got myself the DS version, and decided to do a Let's Play!

I was told that I should mention that I'm going in to this knowing nothing about the game. This is the only RPG I'm playing where I literally know nothing about the game. Nothing about characters, locations, story, nothing at all. So don't spoil it, or something!

*Note, I used a max monies and exp x4 code so that I can get this Let's Play done more quickly without having to spend a ton of time grinding and such.

Okay, so let's begin.

Pretty standard naming. The game is called Chrono Trigger and the guy is called Chrono. Question, is Chrono Trigger related to Chrono Cross?

So I'm sleeping and my mom decides to wake me up. Moms, amirite?

I don't know what that is.

Yes, sure. That's what happened.

Then my mom tells me I'm going to meet my friend, Luca or something.

I like her helmet.

I first go to Lucca's house, but she isn't there. Then I head to the place with the stuff going on. I walk around a bit and then this happens

That was not fun.

How can she not find it? It's giant and it sparkles. So I come to the rescue and get her her pendant back and she thanks me.

Sure strange girl who knocked me over and has the vision of a bat. Sure.

Gotta say, her picture looks nothing like her sprite. And she looks very angry in her picture. What is she so angry about?

So we walk around talking to people.

Ohohoho, I see what's going on here.

Then I get in to some soda drinking contest?

Shut yer face :nonono:

Then I go dancing!

Then I fight this robot thing! The music when he talks is excellent, btw.

Oh, okay. Then she stands there and I try and walk away and she scolds me. I do like how you can walk while talking to people in this game. So I can show them how invested I am in the conversation.

Eventually I try to progress with the game but I can't. Turns out I needed to talk to some random NPC. Thanks.

Gotta say, that is pretty impressive. I go to check things out and that apparently means I'm volunteering.

And that's how Chrono dies.

Afterwards, the girl who is supposedly a tomboy but has done nothing but skip, frollick, giggle, and ask for candy decided she wants to mosey over and give it a try. They also make a huge deal about how pretty she is. I get it Chrono Trigger. I could stand to lose some weight. Stahp.

Also, Chrono has some hair.

I don't think that's supposed to happen.

I'm really thinking that isn't supposed to happen. She disappears and the viewers are shoo'd off.

Apparently I volunteered to go after her bravely when I was seriously just trying to examine her pendant in case it was a key item or something. This turned in to me going after her in that weird blue hole.

05-01-2014, 07:05 AM

How do you know it's the only way? We have spent no minutes thinking about this.

Yeah, you'd better. Sending me to gosh knows where by myself. She's probably having hot chocolate and toast right now and relaxing by a fire.

Typical Friday night.

So I end up in some forest thing and get attacked by these Goblin looking things.

Then I find these guys playing a fun game of soccer. I try to join in, but they just attack me :(. Even the green thing, which I just saved from being kicked around. Ungrateful.

So I seem to be in some weird alternate dimension world of the one I was in originally. The ? in the bottom corner expresses my feelings on the matter.

I find a Church looking thing.

Then I head in to a different woods with fighting and stuff. I find this thing

That has its own music and whatnot. I'm guessing I'll have to come back for this?

I clear the forest and head to the castle where I am immediately verbally assaulted.

This is how you ruin a young boy's self-esteem. You guys think about that.

Thankfully my friend the tomboy-girly "Queen" comes to my rescue and orders them to let me in.

So I found that out. Not sure if relevant to anything.

I legit lol'd at this. Then the chef and the knight guy get in to an argument because... I dunno, they can I guess.

Is it just me, or does she seem really young to be a lady wife?

Oh so is this like, the girl has the pendant and like the alternate dimension her has the coral hairpin?

Also the Chancellor guy actually walks away from me when I talk to him. Rude. Then I meet him up the stairs and he tells me to begone.

Is he a spy or something?

Is this like the guy from Dragon Quest VIII? Because so far the characters look the same.

I am seriously suspicious of this Cathedral. A guard made a comment about them doing something. Is this like, cannibal Church?

Another lady comments on the Queen.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

Shut up, I'm dashing :(

Obviously it's you.. Confession, when people were calling her Lenne, I actually didn't notice that wasn't her real name. I thought her name was Lenne until I spoke to her and it said Marle. Oops.

We get to talking and then this happens

I'm not a doctor but I think that's bad.

She flashes and stuff and then disappears. What happened? I don't know. Tune in next time!

05-01-2014, 07:07 AM
Well done. Keep it up! I love to see other peoples perspectives of games I am familiar with!

EDIT: shion and I were just talking about this and this is her first playthrough of this game. She doesn't no much. PLEASE EVERYONE DON'T RUIN IT FOR HER!

Enjoy the ride of watching a first time player guess what's going to happen next! :)

05-01-2014, 07:01 PM
So Marle disappeared and I just kinda... leave the room, because what else am I going to do really.

What kind of question is this? I mean really?

Then my friend Lucca shows up asking where she is and I apparently tell her she disappeared.

Dang, I was really hoping it was an alternate dimension.

Oh I see. Apparently the genetics on Lenne's side of the family are very strong that the women look the same after generations, no matter who they marry and procreate with.

Chrono is shocked at her being the Princess, but they kind of telegraphed it, so I dunno what he's so shocked about.

Oh Queens. Always gettin themselves kidnapped.

Then I of course have to go rescue her so that history will set itself straight. Apparently because Marle came and they thought she was Lenne, they gave up the search for Lenne.

So I go off on my way to rescue her.

My first stop is creepy cannibal Church because.... because it's creepy cannibal Church.

I found Lenne's hairpin! Le gasp! Which leads to

Okay, so not exactly cannibals like I was hoping. Just monsters. I was really hoping for a Church full of nuns that just eats people and worships some demon God who turns the place in to something a la Silent Hill. BUT WHATEVER

Then I run in to a frog and Lucca expresses her distaste for Frogs, so he saves some of his dignity and walks away to rescue Lenne (the wrong way, I might add). But Lucca tells him to hold up.

PC Lucca

The frog is named Frog. Look at that. His name

What is this he is doing with his arm?!!? WHAT IS ALL THIS

Then I am to find the secret entrance, so of course the first thing I try is the piano. And I am correct!

Then I run in to the monster break room

Oh is that what happened? I also often talk about my evil schemes with my fellow evil schemers over lunch conveniently when strangers walk in.

I would have liked to, but they all turned in to monsters and attacked me. Which is being a pretty bad host imho.

So I found my first save point. Considering it says Middle Ages, I'm guessing I'll be traveling back and forth between the two eras a lot. Or other eras? Am I going to be a time traveling hero?

I look for the exit which involves fights, pianos, skulls, and notes on the wall.

Don't get an attitude with me, sign :nonono:. I will end you!!!

Oh, how exciting, my first boss fight :jess:

I do like the combo attack option. That's pretty neat.

So we rescue Lenne, everyone is happy.

Oh look, a treasure chest!

Oh. It's just you.

So we head back to the castle and Frog is disgraced because he didn't protect Lenne and he hops away in shame.

So did I. So we head back and she reappears once again!

She apologizes for not telling me she was a Princess.

Are you kidding? Do you know how many RPG Princess' I've hung out with. This is nothing new.

Lucca then suggests we head home. Sure, because I know how to do that. Lucca's sprite is adorable, by the way.

Will I ever find my way home? Tune in next time!

Mister Adequate

This is a great thread :jess:

05-02-2014, 03:42 AM
Nice update! Also, real talk: When Fro flexes his arm, it looks like Earthworm Jim's suit. It has the same color scheme and everything!

05-02-2014, 04:08 AM
I don't know who my favorite character is yet. Let's have some discussion! Who are your favorites? Have I ran in to them yet?

05-02-2014, 04:32 AM
I just love your honest responses to some of the screenshots. I always love your Let's Plays Shion.

05-02-2014, 04:41 AM
My honest responses xD? What does that mean?

05-02-2014, 04:47 AM
You haven't run into, but potentially heard of my favorite character when I was younger. Now? I don't really have a favorite. I like them all! While the characters to have distinct personalities, I find that is Chrono Trigger goes on, it becomes more about the story as a whole instead of a character driven story. Most of the cast have their arcs, but they don't overshadow the main storyline.

05-02-2014, 05:08 AM
My favorite party members are Chrono, Marle, and Frog. Lucca is actually in fifth place, but this is a very close race between everyone. I like the cast a lot.

05-02-2014, 05:14 AM
shion, I love every word you type. Keep at this.

Edit: I have a favorite character or two, but I would rather not say who is what because you seem to be having snarky fun and implying you have hit the cash-money already would be depressing. Plus, you totally have not met my favorite character, and he is better than cash-money.

05-02-2014, 05:19 AM
I love almost every word. But she misspelled "Leene" as "Lenne". I wasn't a fan of that word. But all the others are awesome. :D

05-02-2014, 06:22 AM
I'm still getting used to this game, where going along a set of buildings will open up to different houses and whatnot. It's different.

So I head back to the woods and Lucca uses her science magic to open a portal.

Whoa indeed. Lucca so inconsiderately keeps referring to Marle as royalty and Marle is unhappy.

She can't do anything special. You heard her, let's ditch her.

As good a name as any.

Obviously. So then we of course head through the Gate and in to our own time.

Alright :smug:

Lucca decides I can escort Marle by myself because... I don't know, I think Lucca just like ditching me. Why Lucca? Do I smell that bad? I thought we were friends :(

Chrono Trigger has taught me that Chancellors are just jerks. The guards are ordered to seize me, despite Marle's insistence otherwise.

I keep wanting to call her Leene now.

That is the best face I have seen all game.

Sadly, I am brought before court and I have this dude named Pierre defending me. How good of a chance do I stand with a defender named Pierre?

Yes, thank you, Pierre! I never doubted you for a second!

Apparently I subdued her. Anyways, the trial goes on and it is just all kinds of ridiculous. Fortunately,

I am found not guilty! Does this mean I get an apology and to go home in peace? No, of course not. I'm sentenced 3 days solitary confinement for helping the Princess run off. I hate this country.

I was planning to overthrow the Kingdom now. You know that person in your life who has a story they just latch on to and everytime they tell it it gets more and more exaggerated to the point it isn't even the same story anymore? That's the chancellor.

Then, apparently, I am to be executed in 3 days. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? What does this guy even have against me?

Yeah, neither did I. Sadly, the Warden just goes along with the Chancellor even though he could totally take him in a fight.

And so I am put in solitary confinement.

At least I get a save point in my jail cell.

Will I be executed??? Probably not, or there wouldn't be much of a game. Find out next time!

05-02-2014, 06:55 AM
When I was younger that whole trial bit irritated me. I didn't do everything perfectly my first time, but I was found not guilty. It's funnier looking back on that memory now because I accepted the silent protagonist angle so much (not counting OLD school stuff like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger was the first RPG I played with a silent Protagonist) that I wasn't even thinking something like, "How come Crono doesn't defend himself?!" I didn't even consider it a possibility! The dude just doesn't talk, and that's that!

05-02-2014, 07:14 AM
I mostly really like the trial, just because of the fun you can have manipulating it with your actions on the fairgrounds. Each juror is tied to a specific key (yes, even the one that everyone thinks is "random". He's not), and you can really have fun with it, especially with the extra scenes from the NPCs.

Plus, the trial music is epic, and I love the time-travel tie to it.

Medieval times, after you rescue the Chancellor: "We have to create a criminal justice system to deal with threats to the royal family."

Modern times: You get put on trial for abducting the princess. If only you hadn't rescued the real Chancellor (actually, he breaks free anyway, but still).

Loony BoB
05-02-2014, 03:24 PM
Oh man, I haven't played this game in forever and had forgotten pretty much everything, but this LP is remindng me of it piece by piece.

05-02-2014, 09:44 PM
So I manage to break out by making a lot of noise and then beating up on the guards. I explore, run around, do some fights, collects some treasure chests.

Beat that guy up, who exclaims that he doesn't get paid enough for this.

Rescue this guy who was about to get his head chopped off. Which in hindsight was an odd thing to do. Like, he could have been a mass murderer for all I know. It's done now, so that's that.

This is the new best face I've seen this whole game.

You sure took your time.

Then I find this not on the ground.

First off, why would you make it weak to swords and pistols and second, it is awfully convenient that my two characters happen to have those weapons.

I have a feeling I will be that crazed lunatic.

And I am that crazed lunatic!

So I beat up dragon tank (who's idea was this?) and the Chancellor takes a fit.

Well, that doesn't work and it blows up.

Unfortunately, the Chancellor doesn't die, but fortunately, he does make a convenient bridge for me to walk across.

I continue my escape and the Princess tells them to stop. The King scolds her and says she is a Princess first.

You tell them!

Yeah, okay then.

So I'm being chased through the woods by Chancellor McJerkface and some guards and I find another Gate that Marle immediately says we should jump through because, you know, that's smart.

Thank you!

Sadly Marle is too absorbed in her leaving the castle plan to care about that, so in we go.

Also an excellent face.

05-02-2014, 09:49 PM
I love the dragon tank comments. By honest, I guess I mean your incredulity and wit. I love it. Keep it up!

05-02-2014, 09:51 PM

Pretty sure something can get us here. Lucca claims this is a pretty advanced place, meaning probably the future.

If this is the future than it is incredibly depressing and awful :nonono:

So I wander around and I find a sewer area.

I don't know who that is.

Then I find some frogs arguing about bridges (typical frog argument)

I find this note:

Well then :erm:

The lookout guy and this... slug thing both start laughing at me and then challenge me to a fight. Before the fight starts, however, the lookout guy runs away, leaving me with slug who seriously wants to kill me.

Then I come out of the sewers and find this

This is um... what? Is that like a robot fish slave or something?

I don't think I have seen any of those things

I think this old man has some mental health problems.

Then I go somewhere else and find this thing here:

Will I be able to use this device? I hope so, and I hope it helps me leave this horrible awful area because I hate it so much :nonono:

Tune in next time!

05-02-2014, 09:53 PM
So is Chrono Trigger quite linear then? That's what I'm getting so far.

05-02-2014, 09:56 PM
It seems a bit linear so far, yeah. I'm not too far in yet though, so it's hard to say.

05-02-2014, 10:01 PM
A lot of routes are closed off to the world at large due to [future story plotlines], which you get to, and there comes a time when the world is your oyster. Until then, yeah, the scope gets narrow, but shion has not shown how a person can get lost in Guardia forest, the sewers, and even the cannibal church has a lot to miss if you somehow only go from plot point to plot point.

05-02-2014, 10:05 PM
Yeah you can go to different areas and explore before the plot points but so far it has been limiting. Like old guy and fish robot slave don't seem to have advanced the story for me at all, but I could still go and visit them. The sewers were pretty long and there were a few more dialogues with the frog dudes that I didn't include.

05-03-2014, 12:07 AM
You can actually skip the sewer when you first get to the future, but there comes a point where you HAVE to go through it, so it's best just to get it out of the way when you first arrive.

The commentary keeps on getting better and better! I need to up my game when I update my Shining Force II thread (hopefully ASAP in a couple of days)!

05-03-2014, 05:42 AM
I back track through the sewers and find these people in a dome thingy.

Lucca tells them we are from the West. This is true. We are from so far West, some people call it the "past".

I am pretty awesome.

None of this means anything to me.

He tells me it's ironic that they're going to starve to death over their own food storage. By ironic I think he means incredibly tragic.

This is good to know. Mountains, always causing worldwide famine and robot invasions. I mean, what did they expect from a mountain named Death Peak?

So I head down to their food storage area and fight a big robot.

See, I was worried, because he has this countdown thing he does. I was expecting like a super mega ultra attack to take place when he reached 0, but he just regenerates his stupid little pod things. You disappoint me giant robot.

This is incredibly unfortunate. We also find a dead man and apparently decide to search him for some reason. Seriously, what is it with people and dead bodies in RPGs? I touched a dead cat body once and it was horrifying.

Oh good, a SeeD! I hope it's a good one like Squall. He'll take care of those robots. I know he will, I've seen him do it.

There's also a note or something.

What a convenient note for us to find.

So I catch it and it tells me this and then I unlock stuff and walk and fight and eventually arrive to the supercomputer.

I just said that.

You can't see it, but it's a little ways off.

Lucca, probably.

05-03-2014, 05:58 AM
But the video is not done!

We get this disturbing image here

See, that place looks a lot like the world from the present (past?), but what's happening there does not look good. Apparently that happens in the year 1999 AD and we are in the year 2300 AD and our real time is 1000 AD. That's a lot of ADs.

Marle is very upset at the fact that this is our future (no kidding), but then decides:

Yeah, sure. WHY NOT. It's not like we're just a bunch of kids who should probably be in school and maybe we should find some evidence of this and the Gates and hand this over to professionals or something.

We head back to the sad people and they basically don't care about our time traveling, but the old man (I already forgot his name) is happy to see such hope in us.

He gives me the keys to his futurebike

Which is a massive bike, I might add.

But I can't just take the bike and be on my way. Oh no. Instead I run in to future douche.

Are... are you serious?

This is... I can't...

He was serious.

I do win the race actually, mostly thanks to my boyfriend's racing. As some of you know, sharky races cars, and he's told me about this thing called.... I don't remember, but it's where you bump a car to give it a boost to go faster. So I just kept having him bump in to me and I stayed ahead of him pretty consistently.

Bet you never thought having a racer boyfriend would come in handy. WELL NOW IT HAS TRANSLATED IN TO THE REAL WORLD SKILL OF PLAYING VIDEO GAMES TAKE THAT

So I arrive at the dome thingy I was searching for.

Chrono looks like a lady wearing a pretty blue dress in his overworld map sprite. Is so cute. Look at his little dress.

So I head in and do some fights and then I see a little robot guy.

Oh look, I get movies!

And Lucca decides to fix him up!

Marle calls her crazy, saying he might just attack us if he's fixed.

So she spends some time fixing him up and he wakes up and is happy and we all introduce ourselves.

So Lucca is totally cool with that name, but no one else is, so I get to name him.

Okay, really. The default name is Robo. ROBO. That's not even... no. No his name is not Robo. Instead, his name shall be

Yes, excellent. That name is perfect for him. I'm serious, I see that name when I look at him.

Moving on

We sadly had to tell him that the others are probably dead and he is a sad robot :(. We tell him about our time traveling shenanigans and how we need to get through that door behind him.

The power is shut off, but Freddy has a plan. But to go there, one of my party members must stay behind.

Who should I leave behind?

I'll actually let you guys decide! You should have until I play again tomorrow night (20ish hours) to decide.

Pros and cons of each character:

Pro: Has healing magic
Cons: Didn't want to rescue poor Freddy

Pro: I like her better
Cons: Doesn't have healing magic

Decide who will join me on my epic quest to wherever the heck Freddy said we were going!

This is a fun little thread, reminds that I should finally finish my FFIII one...

Anyway, go with Lucca. Marle is kind of dead weight and Robo is one of the more well-rounded characters.

I love most of the cast to be honest. Frog is actually one of my favorites. My final team is Crono, Frog, and one person you haven't met yet.

Also Robo's theme is probably my favorite character them in the game.

Also, I can share this since you've met everyone!

05-03-2014, 07:23 AM
I vote Marle. I like her better, and she does get some awesome reactions in the upcoming bit.

Also, we can now share this gem with you:

Square: Rick Rolling people since 1995.

05-03-2014, 09:14 AM
Go with Lucca! Freddy's got some healing techs too, I believe ;)

05-03-2014, 05:29 PM
Take Marle, that simpleton. I do not think she has more utility, but she obviously needs more babysitting while Lucca could stay home playing with computers.

05-03-2014, 05:55 PM
Pick Lucca, personally. I haven't played the game yet, but that bitch Marle didn't want to revive poor Freddy. She deserves to be left by herself and think about what she did!

Either that, or save two files. Run it through with Lucca, and then Marle, to see the different scenes and all that.

05-03-2014, 06:06 PM
I could do with both, but I'm not sure how long the upcoming area is.

So far Lucca will be coming with me it seems :D

05-03-2014, 06:09 PM
I would tell you but I haven't played the game myself :p

05-03-2014, 06:10 PM
Listen to your heart, shion!

05-03-2014, 06:38 PM
I could do with both, but I'm not sure how long the upcoming area is.

So far Lucca will be coming with me it seems :D

Once you make your choice, you can go back to where the other person is waiting and switch them out until you complete the area. So if you think a big scene is coming up, you can save and then go back and switch.

You can also avoid a lot of fights if you know where to walk to avoid the triggers (though the next area is one of the more annoying areas for avoiding fights).

05-04-2014, 05:52 AM
So this was an incredibly frustrating area and I did not want to do it twice, so I went with the majority vote, and brought Lucca.

So we head to the place and go through some conveyor belts and find some codes and stuff.

Those codes moved some barrels out of my path.

And then I got the main code.

I have to say, this area was very frustrating, especially since I have a hard time seeing the ladders going down on my screen so I got stuck a few times. It took me much longer than I would have liked to get through here.

We activate what we need to, but of course it sets off a very noisy alarm and I need to escape.

Look at Freddy rescuing me! I was so worried he was going to die here :G

But he doesn't and we continue on our way until we meet a bunch of blue/grey Freddy's.

This is a very touching scene where Freddy tries to talk to his friends and all they do is reject him. They tell him he is to destroy all intruders and he wonders if that was his purpose and if that's what he was built for. Then the robots start beating him up :G

If I approach them, he tells me to leave them be because they are his brothers and omigosh I'm almost crying right now.

They eventually toss him aside and Lucca (and myself) is very upset. The robots say they will eliminate the intruders.

YOU TELL THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We defeat them and find poor Freddy trashed up. Lucca worries she might not be able to fix him.

We bring him back to the Dome and Lucca works hard trying to fix him up.

She tells him that that is the plan, although we might not succeed.

Marle is either dead or sleeping.

Freddy is touched and tells Lucca that no one ever asked him that before.

Thankfully, Lucca is friggin awesome and repairs Freddy :omgomg:

My thoughts exactly.

Freddy tells Lucca that what he wants to do now is help us. He is just the sweetest random robot I found broken in a dome in the future ever

I of course accept and then we head to the portal that is conveniently in an empty room that was locked and forced me to go through a dungeon. It is a tiny square area that contains nothing but the portal. What, are portals loners or something?

Then we end up in some new area!

Am I... am I dead?

So we all tell him when we're from (not a commonly asked question)

Does this mean there are other time travelers too?

And apparently I can call on them whenever I want. It is a depressing place.

I want to take Freddy because I like him and he is at a lower level, and I'm thinking Marle so she can get some screen time, since I just took Lucca.

Anyways, sorry guys, I feel crummy tonight so I'm going to cut this short. It wasn't the funniest entry, but the moments with Freddy were heartbreaking and touching and I got to see a lot more of Lucca's character, which I enjoyed. I like her a lot more now. And Freddy too.

So I'll try to get some more of this done tomorrow. Tune in next time!

Before moving forward, make a party of Crono,Marle, and Lucca and visit the room the Old Man tells you to enter for something a little more uplifting. You get new dialogue for each character you bring in there so have fun, also Don't touch the bucket... :shifty:

05-04-2014, 06:01 AM
O...okay :erm:

05-04-2014, 06:08 AM
I'm also going to post the best part of taking Marle with you. Just because it's too awesome to miss completely.

Another epic face for the collection.

05-05-2014, 04:24 AM
I'm sorry guys, I feel horrible so I'm going to try to pass out and get to this tomorrow. No update for tonight

05-05-2014, 04:17 PM
The End of Time music is fantastic.

05-05-2014, 08:17 PM
Alright, so to pick up, we are at the End of Time.

So I decide my part will be Chrono, Marle and Freddy. So I leave Freddy aside for a minute and go explore the door behind the Old Man.

He asks me if he looks strong, and I tell him he does because... well he's a bit chubby so his self esteem isn't all that great. Might as well be nice to him.

Did not know that.

Yay, I like magic! But apparently people abused the magic so now only monsters can use it. BUT he says there are different people who can use different types and the potential is still there or something.

I like this part because as some of you know, I'm writing a book in which some people can use magic, but its based off of different elements, like in this game.

In this game, there are apparently 4 types, Light, Shadow, Water, and Fire, all of which are conveniently covered with my 4 characters.

He does have a punk hairdo. What a punk. Kids these days

Oh ponytail gal

Best character description.

I... really?

This game makes you do some odd things. So I do it and then

I'm going to start yelling MAGIC-O at people now.

In case anyone is wondering, here is the magic that Lucca and Marle gain.

Then I head back and pick up Freddy and drop of Lucca and go see the big chubby blue guy again.

Oh... okay. That's something, I guess!

And here is Chrono and Freddy's stuff

Lightning strike (by light I didn't know they meant lightning)

And Freddy is kinda like a... disco ball.

With that sorted, I head to this thing called the arena of ages.

Yeah, that.

Basically its monsters vs monsters.

There's a whole bunch of stuff going on here that doesn't really interest me. I might change my mind later on, but before now I just leave.

Then I head to the pillar of light that says 1000 AD.

But I don't seem to end up in my home at all.

I had no idea.

This sounds like a good place to start. Old men in caves to the west are always trustworthy.

So when I was at the end of time, there was a pillar leading like way way way way back in the past and I was curious to explore it, but I don't know if its somewhere I'll have to go later and I'll run in to stuff I'm not strong enough to fight yet, or if it's worth exploring now. Suggestions?

And that's all for now! I might actually get another update in later, but no promises. Tune in next time!

05-05-2014, 08:42 PM
You can explore back in the prehistoric era if you want to. There's not a lot to do there at this point. There is a village, and several areas to explore. Just be careful, because one of the places has some really hard enemies in it (it also has some good chests, if you want to run in and avoid the encounters), and another is completely blocked off. The Hunting Range is a pretty great place to go if you feel like grinding, and will help you get some items later in the game.

You could potentially go to 65 million B.C. if you want but you are on the current story path and will get their eventually. I love the nonsense of Spekkio!

Note, Spekkio does in fact change his form based on his levels and for each form upgrade he gives you new items when you beat him, so check in on him regularly. Also the Arena of Ages is actually something new introduced in the DS version, it doesn't exist in the original but it is fun anyway.

Yeah, Robo/Freddy technically can't use magic but since he is a Shadow variant, it means many of his skills count towards all four elements. So Shadow Beam is Shadow, Cure Beam is Water, and later he will learn a skill that is fire based and one that is lightning based so he's a really good character for versatility even though his magic stat is pretty low. Also, Dual/Triple Techs which utilize more than one magic are considered Shadow damage, just as magic combined with a physical attack makes the attack that element, so even without using Robo, Marle and Lucca's Dual Techs together equal shadow damage.

I didn't think that Cure Beam had an element. It's just healing. I think elements only really affect attacking.

Also, the Antipode Dual Techs from Marle and Lucca are absurdly overpowered, especially early on in the game.

Wolf Kanno
05-05-2014, 11:17 PM
It's not likely an actual water element but considering only people with access to water magic can actually heal characters (barring one person), I just assumed it's the closest thing a Robot would get to water magic. I guess it's my own fan theory since the other Shadow user can use all magic types as well.

05-06-2014, 01:54 AM
Oh man I need to replay this so badly.

05-06-2014, 02:56 AM
Awesome stuff as usual, shion. I love the deadpan reactions to things.

05-06-2014, 09:18 PM
I wonder if shion will recognized the old man. He's in the Millenial Fair early on, but you don't have to visit him.

05-07-2014, 05:23 AM
So I decide to stay in this time and do some exploring.

This is a bit concerning :erm:

Also, racism. Speciesism?

So I head over to the mountain to the west and there's an old man who sells me items. Was expecting more, honestly. Then I head in to some cave mountain thing.

Just all kinds of bad social decorum in this area

Then I have to fight that ugly thing.

Leene... erm, Marle suggest we use the portal at the fair grounds. She somehow magically knew that we were about to enter a whirlpool that leads right over there.

Then I go around exploring. I visit Luccas house

That's... that's sad :(. He also gives me some armor for Lucca.

I head home and my mom scolds me for worrying her with my execution. I was a bit worried too mom, ya know?

Hmm.. interesting.

I also meet a super rich jerk mayor and after seeing the thing with Lucca's parents, it makes me even more upset.

So I head to the fair and through the portal and return to the end of time and hop in to the portal to go to 600 AD.

This is interesting. Also, your successor is a jerk. Write that in your diary for historians to find.

I'm about to stick my nose all up in their business.

People sure are talking about this hero boy a lot. WHAT ABOUT ME?>?!?!?1 I'M THE PROTAGONIST!!!!11!!!!!!11!1!11

Okay, Hero boy, I get it. Way to give me a complex

I guess I'm heading south, then.

So I head south to the bridge and the soldiers complain about needing food. So I head aaaaaaaallllllllllll the way back to the castle and talk to the chef who calls the soldiers selfish fools, basically, and then try to leave. Then he stops and offers me some spicy jerky :jess:

Oh... oh it's not for me it's for... I see.

Ah so that's why he hates the soldiers so much. Anyways, he says if I see his brother to tell him he slept with his wife.

Okay, so he didn't. Just figured that would be a good plot twist. I've been watching too many teen dramas.

So back to the bridge AGAIN (what am I, time traveling errand boy?)

Don't tell me what to do :nonono:

I do agree to fight with them, partially to be helpful, partially for honour, partially because I pressed A too fast.

Who does this? Who actually formally introduces themselves to their enemies like this? He' also kind of ugly so I'm thinking him doing this is maybe his way of gaining approval and feeling good about himself. It's okay Ozzie, we're here for you!

So he turns the dead soldiers in to skeletons and I fight them and stuff. Eventually he does this

He called it Zombor. Super clever, he is.

And I beat him and have now reached my limit of 2 boss fights per hour.

Will we find this mysterious young hero who keeps stealing my thunder? Tune in next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-07-2014, 06:00 AM
Make sure to occasionally check back with Taban, he gives you stuff. Ozzie... is kind of like that, his whole deal is that he's not really as intimidating as he wants people to believe he is, especially his no-good descendent in Medina.

You might want to switch out Robo for Lucca in the next area, because magic will be important and Robo just doesn't have the magic power to be useful, also Lucca's fire magic is going to be useful.

I must say it is really fun watching you go through this game and see some of these things for the first time, cause it's fun watching you stumble on important things even thought you may not realize it yet. ;)

05-07-2014, 06:10 AM
It's the apple, isn't it? The apple is the true villain!!

05-07-2014, 06:36 AM
I find it amusing you have a two-boss per hour limit. Oh sweetie... :shobon:

Wolf Kanno
05-07-2014, 06:41 AM
True, she's going to have issues after the next two dungeons cause after that dungeons average two or three most of the time.

05-07-2014, 06:55 AM
I was actually just using that as an excuse to stop playing because my head was hurting :(

Mister Adequate
05-07-2014, 07:01 AM
I think it's imperative that you help awaken Lavos.

So that there's no more humans.

05-07-2014, 09:25 PM
Okay, so I take WK's advice and switch out poor Freddy ;__________;

Let me know when I can bring him back.

Then I go exploring and gathering information.

So this village elder wants this man to go get the Rainbow Shell.

Makes me wonder who the hero is.

There is the fellow who is supposed to go get the magical shell or whatever the heck. He made me buy him a drink. The frog is, I imagine, Frog.

I have a feeling this is going to be a boss fight.

So I find this guy AGAIN at ANOTHER BAR and he tells me he found the rainbow shell but he lost all of the funds and doesn't know which island. Well, I don't know either, nor do I know how to get to any of the small islands. So... there you go.

I also find a house with a man bragging that his son is the legendary hero.

I meet a woman asking for some spicy jerky. Everyone wants my spicy jerky. I be nice and give it to her for free. I have max cash anyways, might as well.

Considering the location of this house, I'm going to hope it makes the selfish greedy mcjerkface mayor in the future (present?) less of a selfish greedy mcjerkface.

I guess that's where I'm headed!

But first, a trip to the woods.

I find my old pal Frog (CT is very creative with their naming)

He says he can't do anything and he's no hero.

You disappoint me, Frog. I want you to know, I'm not mad at you. I'm just... disappointed.

Now it is time for the mountains! I find a little boy with a shield running away from things and urging me to do the same. Also, many battles and jerk birds who throw rocks at me and send other monsters after me.

I feel a lot worse killing these monsters now that I know how they feel in the future. I thought they were just mindless creatures like in a lot of games, but they aren't :(

Those birds are still jerks, though.

Then I find this half rainbow?

Oh, found the other half.

I arrive to a cave area where there are 2 children.

I didn't, actually, but I figure since I'm here, I might as well.

No, not really. Like I said, I came this way because I was kind of made to in order to progress with the game and the sword happens to be here so I guess I need it?

Anyways the two kids basically laugh at me and then turn in to these things that I have to fight.

I apparently only needed to beat one of them for the fight to end.

Oh, Cyrus. I keep hearing so much about you. I wonder if he's handsome. Hero's usually are. People don't seem to like ugly heroes as much.

Anyways, then the kids, named Masa and Mune (getit?) turn in to this:

Which is really ugly and I liked them better before. Also, an old man gave me some advice about his whirlwind attack that helped me out.

So I defeat them and stuff.

The other one says yes.

Then the sword turns in to a shiny thing

And comes down as this.

So I get the broken sword and I have to find the real owner for it. Considering what Frog said, I'm guessing its him, so that is my next stop!

Is Frog the hero? Will I meet Cyrus? Ever? Is he handsome? Find out next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-07-2014, 10:12 PM
What level are you? Your stats seem off for this point of the game, but maybe I'm wrong. Keep the two girls for a bit just because they get some really funny dialogue in the next scenario but once you get to the next dungeon, feel free to switch Freddy/Robo back in.

05-07-2014, 10:16 PM
Chrono is at 31 and the 2 girls are at 30.

I haven't had any trouble so far?

05-09-2014, 08:32 PM
Before going to see our good friend, Frog, we go see Tata (which is a Canadian French word for moron, just fyi) the supposed hero.

Totes what I would have done.

Me: Oh look, a badge!
Me: O......kay.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that's how I stumble upon all RPGs.

Me: Oh look, a game!
Everyone in game: You are THE LEGENDARY HERO!!!!
Me: O......kay.

Thanks for the second hand hero badge. Then his dad pretends he's cool with all of this.

Now off to see Frog!

Pretty sure it matters.

Anyways, he moves and something is all shiny.

That mountain dude has his name on the sword.

Then Frog tells me there is no one alive who can fix that sword.

But first, let's check out that bucket we were told to leave alone.

I don't think I'm ready for this yet.

Also, why is the end of the world in a bucket?

So I head and see cave dude.

Your mom.

Lucca is a good deal more excited about this than I am.

But he says the stone was only available like way way back. Before I can even imagine.

They look like monsters to me. So we fight them and then there are more and then this happens.

Oh my :erm:

Then she gets all up on Chrono

And introduces herself.

I like that name.

Alright :smug:

Don't you be Chrono blocking me, Marle :nonono:

Oh my, how very progressive of you, Chrono Trigger.

Oh my indeed :erm:

So she asks where we are from and we suspect it to be hard to explain time travel to cave lady.

She thinks this is funny (it kind of is if you think about it) and invites us to dinner.

I like Ayla :D

Then Lucca tells her we need a stone and don't have time for her merry drink dancing, which is totally untrue because we have TIME TRAVEL

I really like Ayla :D

Tune in next time for hopefully some partying and stones!

05-09-2014, 08:49 PM
Epic quest to save the world and you're partying and getting stoned. For shame, shion. :D

05-09-2014, 08:54 PM
No stoned, just drunk :stare:

05-09-2014, 09:09 PM
No stoned, just drunk :stare:

I was just making a play off the "Free stones for everyone!" line. :)

05-09-2014, 09:18 PM
Just playing :D

Wolf Kanno
05-09-2014, 11:24 PM
Oh Ayla, you are so amusing.

05-10-2014, 06:35 AM
Little update!

I find some huts and one says 'Chief' and Ayla is there so I'm guessing she is the chief. Then she throws us a party!

She tells us to dance and stuff which is what her clansmen do

Sounds... delicious.

Um... sure

I... I see

Then Ayla says something about staying strong and beating Azala.

Freddy starts dancing after this and then falls over.

Uh... yes?

I think she means she will give me the stone if I fight her.

Or you know, outdrink her from these GIANT BOWLS OF ALCOHOL

I think I lose?

Either way, I wake up hungover.

And robbed.

So we go see Ayla

She tells us to go see the villagers for clues.

I... I think this is a clue?

So we head to the maze... woods... thingy

Wow thanks a lot :nonono:

I honestly thought that was a woman until now :erm:

Ayla then hits Kino and Freddy tells her violence isn't the answer.

Yes! Bad thing! Bad thing is not good! Bad thing is bad!

So he says he wants to give our stuff back but the dinosaur things have it, of course.

I don't... understand?

So we head through the woods and end up in the lizard cave. What happens in the lizard cave? I don't know, I haven't played there yet. Tune in next time!

05-10-2014, 06:38 AM
Tata is an unfortunate name overall. In Polish it means "dad".

05-10-2014, 06:39 AM
Poor Tata just has the worst name

Wolf Kanno
05-10-2014, 06:50 AM
Ah man, you should have stayed with Lucca so you could see her get drunk and try to force Crono to drink. Did you dance with Marle?

05-12-2014, 01:13 PM
I don't see why they couldn't just have Lucca build another Gate Key.

For that matter, can't you still change party members? How do you guys access the gates to do that?

05-12-2014, 04:50 PM
Yeah I can change members at any time

05-12-2014, 06:12 PM
Yeah I can change members at any time

But the Gate Key was stolen!

I mean, I guess when you trade party members you give them the key, so they can go back, and trade it to the new member so that the new member can use the Gate. But with the Gate Key gone, you'd be stuck with no way to reach the End of Time.

05-12-2014, 06:18 PM
Yeah it is weird. What was really dumb is how I totally forgot that we were off rescuing the gate key and I backtracked back to the gate trying to get Ayla to the end of time so I could get her magic.

But we don't have the gate key :|

And that's why this update is late

05-12-2014, 06:19 PM
Yeah I can change members at any time

But the Gate Key was stolen!

I mean, I guess when you trade party members you give them the key, so they can go back, and trade it to the new member so that the new member can use the Gate. But with the Gate Key gone, you'd be stuck with no way to reach the End of Time.

There's still a flaw in that reasoning because the Gate Key is useless without a Gate, so there would be no way of instantaneous party switching, because that one party member would have to run all the way to the Gate, the other one would have to come all the way back. What would the remaining two so in the meantime? That would mean the whole party goes back to regroup and then cones back to where they left off. Unless it's just gameplay/story segregation.

Wolf Kanno
05-12-2014, 07:47 PM
It's mostly story/gameplay segregation, it would be really obnoxious if the game forced you to stick with the party you had in these instances cause what happens if you brought a character that was under-leveled or in other games, try to move forward without the proper party member.

05-12-2014, 11:11 PM
So I go and try to find my gate key and find a dinosaur/lizard thing that has it.

He is surprised the apes could have built something like this and asks me what it is, which I choose not to tell him. Chrono doesn't talk anyways, so I just went with the more obvious answer.

Then lizard dude takes a fit and makes me fight a boss.

He has much HP I will tell you that.

Yes, give Chrono his thing back! He doesn't feel quite like himself without it

I don't remember this being in the history books.

Why is it always a competition with Kino?

Then I have to leave and sadly, Ayla doesn't come with me :(

Also, I didn't think I had the dreamstone but turns out I do so what do you know. We head back to 1000 AD to get what's his name to fix the Masamune.

Awww Freddy is so kind

So I watch them fiddle around in the basement before finally

Sure, let's!

So add in some more time traveling and I go see Frog who tells me to stay the night while he thinks things over.

What an ugly green text box colour.

The Frog King?

So sure enough they do just that and the Frog King takes off.

Then we see a flashback later on with these man with the luscious hair stealing the Masamune from Cyrus.

Cyrus then bursts in to flames(?) and Glenn doesn't run because Glenn is either a) hard of hearing B) terrible at following instructions or C) a moron. Then he gets turned in to a frog, because that's what happens when you don't listen to dudes who burst in to flames.

Okay, let's do that! Even though I don't know where it is. Care to give me directions, Frog?

Will I ever find Magus's keep? Will Frog ever turn back in to Glenn? Tune in next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-12-2014, 11:48 PM

And everytime Ayla talks I'm like

I'm just looking forward to watching her face off with Magus. 54402

05-13-2014, 10:38 PM
So I find where I'm going and we have some more flashback scenes

Frog (pre-Frog) was being picked on and Cyrus scared the kids away

Is this... is this like a sex talk?

Aww, Frog. That's so nice. But then Cyrus scolds him like a big jerkbutt

Then later on, Frog is telling Cyrus he will become a knight.

Cyrus then asks Frog to join him and Frog is like "nah, bro"

Maybe because you were mean to him when he was a child :nonono:

Then we see him being turned in to a frog again.

And finally we stop talking a trip down memory lane.

Frog asks Chrono for the sword and for some reason (to be dramatic) Chrono plants it in the ground instead of just handing it to him.

That's Frog being a show-off

Err... I mean opening the cave by splitting the mountain open.

Then we fight and as I'm thinking to myself "I should really go get him his magic before I get too far", the fight ends and this happens.

Thank you Freddy. You've always got my back.

So I head back (forward?) to the end of time.

He is a weird fellow.

So I get him his magic and it looks like this

So.... so threatening.

Then I head back to the cave magic thing place and find a note on a dead guy.

Yeah, I don't know what... sure

Wolf Kanno
05-13-2014, 10:41 PM
Man Frog is just Boss in this game, yeah his water magic isn't so great (he has the weakest version) but once he learns Heal, he's your best friend. :D

05-13-2014, 10:41 PM
Then I head back to the cave magic thing place and find a note on a dead guy.

Yeah, I don't know what... sure

As helpful as that note may be, it actually makes no sense, because Fiends are the only ones in that era who could use magic. Normal people couldn't. I mean, you just got that entire talk with Frog where he goes "WTF, you guys can use magic?! I thought magic-using humans died out long ago!". Then the game gives you that note. Why?! >.<

Wolf Kanno
05-13-2014, 10:45 PM
It actually does make sense, because Jugglers (http://www.chronowiki.org/wiki/Juggler) are a Mystic/Demon you fight in Magus' Castle and the note tells you that you need to alternate your attacks to defeat them quickly.

Humans lost the power of magic but Mystics can still use it.

Editga: Oh, snap, now I get what you mean. Why would it mention the bit about magic if humans can't use spells. My bad.

05-13-2014, 10:45 PM
So I find this place

And head inside and see some kids and people and a bat following me around everywhere. Then I see some familiar people

Oh my :erm:

100? That's.... ugh that's a lot.

So I do some fights and the people turn in to skeletons and other monsters threaten to kill me. You know, the usual.

Then I fight that umm guy. *scrolls up* Slash. His name is Slash.

And then I beat him and go meet up with the familiar faces who of course all turn out to be evil.

Evil Lucca threatens Freddy.

Evil Leene says Frog is okay only to say that will not do

Evil Chrono's mother says she was worried about him and then tells him he needs to die

Naughty like in a sexy way... no? okay :(

These monsters really need to stop with the bait and switch. It's very rude.

Then I go fight "Flea" who has a ? next to their name, so I suspect it isn't really Flea.

What kind of name is Flea, anyway? So turns out Flea is the bat that's been following me around.

Wait... you're what?

I'm with you Freddy

Anyways so I enter this weird starry battle screen and defeat Flea and now I guess I'm after the luscious hair dude or Ozzie.

Either way, tune in next time!!

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention, Flea and Guns N' Roses fellow keep bringing up Cyrus when speaking to Frog. He's dead guys, okay? You have to move on. I know it's hard, but you have to

05-13-2014, 10:50 PM
Editga: Oh, snap, now I get what you mean. Why would it mention the bit about magic if humans can't use spells. My bad.

"Hit them with physical attacks, and they'll be vulnerable to magic!"

"That's great, soldier. It's a pity that no human has been able to use magic in 12,600 years!"

Is it any wonder that the guy wound up dead in the middle of a cave?

Wolf Kanno
05-13-2014, 11:02 PM
Magus' Henchment were originally named after condiments in the Japanese version because Akira Toriyama loves to do this with his characters. The English version names them after Rock singers so it goes like this:

Ozzie - Ozzy Osbourne
Slash - Slash from Guns n' Roses
Flea - Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers

A similar thing happens with three other characters where their naming scheme is like a Japanese pun but in the English version they are named after the Magi.

05-13-2014, 11:08 PM
Not to be nit picky or anything, but the only one of those three who are a Singer is Ozzy. Slash is a Guitarist, and Flea I believe was the Bassist. ;P

Wolf Kanno
05-13-2014, 11:20 PM
I meant to say Rock stars, I was thinking singer cause of Ozzie. :p

My point is that the English version of CT is vastly superior to the Japanese version as a lot of it's changes were largely for the better.

05-14-2014, 06:35 AM
So I go find my good friend Ozzie who immediately calls for his pals, who I have killed

Because I killed them. I am a murderer.

Then he makes me chase him around this ridiculously long area with knives and holes and I just

I hate you Ozzie. Why couldn't you just hang out in a room like your friends?

You are so annoying

Then I FINALLY catch up to him

This is concerning

I sure enough do defeat him by opening some holes in the floor

That's him having fallen through a hole

Then I end up somewhere dark

I agree

The floor lights up as we walk on it and we run in to luscious hair man

I will seriously buy whatever shampoo he uses.

Then he and Frog catch up on old times or whatever

Then I have to fight him which is annoying because he pulls crap like this:

And keeps changing what magic he absorbs.

Anyways, he eventually is defeated.

So is he like a vampire, or....

Actually, Chrono did most of the work.... but that's....

ahem anywho

Stuff starts rumbling and waving and junk

Let's hope not

I agree

Luscious hair man then insults me and tells me he merely summoned Lavos

*sigh* Don't you just hate it when the bad guys do this? There's never any young bad guys.

Anyways I get sucked in to a portal in the floor because why not.

Well this is :erm:

Oh this, I'm okay with.

I think everyone should call her Madam Ayla. That is her full name now. It is decided. Also, Freddy makes the best face

When's the last time Marle rescued me after fighting lusciously haired vampires as Lavos awakens and I get sent through a portal and end up way back in caveman days?

Yeah, that's what I thought

I dunno

Anyways, Madam Ayla leaves for something or something. I'm not sure, I was getting more water, I don't know where she went.

This sounds pretty impressive.

So then some cavedude comes in and talks about a big fire and Ki.. Ka... whatever his name is leaves.

What's up with this big fire? What's up with the big lizard dude? Where did luscious hair vampire go? What happened with Lavos?

Stay tuned and find out!

He's one of the last really tough fights though. Probably one of the better Magic-Change Barrier boss battles in gaming due to the setup of the game's magic mechanics.

05-14-2014, 06:56 AM
How far in to the game am I

Wolf Kanno
05-14-2014, 07:00 AM
Almost halfway, Magus is just one of the few bosses with a Gimmick, technically the hardest fight in the game is one you are not suppose to win but it is possible to win it in New Game+. With the level enhancer you have, you might accidentally win that fight. ;)

05-14-2014, 07:02 AM
The Magus fight was hard because of the amount of time it took, but he never hit for more than 60 damage, averaged about 30, so it wasn't really difficult.

I could tell it would be though if I didn't have my exp multiplier

05-14-2014, 07:13 AM
That point in the game can be a pain if you've never played it before if only because you have no way to go in with all four elements, not without power grinding some TP for Robo anyway.

05-14-2014, 07:14 AM
I... I forgot about Freddy's techs :erm:

Magus: "I absorb all except fire"

05-14-2014, 07:23 AM
God, my first time playing I used Marle just so I had a group heal with her and Chrono that was really good, so I couldn't even hurt him much since half the elements I didn't have access too, only Lighting (It was that in the SNES version, not light. :p) and Water.

05-14-2014, 07:44 AM
I'm not entirely sure who I used during my gameplay of Chrono Trigger. But I do remember that I did like using Frog. :D

05-15-2014, 06:10 AM
So I go find Madam Ayla

Wow, mean :nonono:

I will beat you up old man! Come at me!

P. sure Madam Ayla don't want die.

Village dude opens something and anyways she gets flying dinosaurs now.

So we follow her

Pretty neat. She tells us its too dangerous to go with her but we insist.

I like how perfectly coiffed her hair is despite living thousands of years before hair products.

Aww cute

So off we go!

Then I remember magic dude

I think he's talking about her boobies

How come my favorite characters don't get magic :nonono: this is completely unfair!!!

Anyways, I go to the place to progress the game and rescue some villagers.

I don't know how it's your fault, Kino, but I'll blame you if you want me to.

Madam Ayla busts out Kino with her superhuman strength and then Kino unlocks some skulls for me.

Oh, well thank you.

Oh, yeah, see I did not get that. You should be more clear next time to avoid further miscommunications.

So we fight and eventually I find supreme lizard dudette.

I'm putting my money on apes, considering I've seen the future (present) and um

there seem to be a few more humans than dinosaurs.

So we go fight her and this MONSTROUS DRAGON THING and Madam Ayla asks the weird sparkly star in the sky to just fall already

Well I won so...

Madam Ayla says she knows and then the screen starts flashing red.

Well this sounds concerning.

It also explains the huge gap in times I can travel to.

That's an ugly star

Madam Ayla tells us its Lavos and Lucca is all like "say whaaaaaaaat?!?!"

See how smart Madam Ayla is? She personally named the cause of the end of the world.

Aww she's so sweet. But Azalizard refuses.

Then this less sweet thing happens:

And turns me in to tiny little diamonds. Ayla suggests we go to Lavos' landing spot

Yes, let us rush head on in to this. That is just the best plan.

Will I defeat Lavos? Will I find out the secret to Ayla's perfect hair? Find out next time!

05-15-2014, 06:48 AM
Ooh, the next part is going to be awesome. That music. Cannot wait.

Also, Ayla and R-66Y are overpowered enough without giving them magic too.

05-15-2014, 06:51 AM
Ooh, the next part is going to be awesome. That music. Cannot wait.

Also, Ayla and R-66Y are overpowered enough without giving them magic too.

You mean Freddy?

05-15-2014, 06:56 AM
Ooh, the next part is going to be awesome. That music. Cannot wait.

Also, Ayla and R-66Y are overpowered enough without giving them magic too.

You mean Freddy?

Freddy, Robo, R-66Y, or my favorite: <Redacted Due To Spoilers>. Call him what you will, he's still awesome. And massively overpowered due to gameplay and story cohesion.

05-15-2014, 06:57 AM
He is very awesome

And well mannered.

05-15-2014, 07:38 AM
Aw man, you're about to reach the best part of the game :jess:

05-15-2014, 06:54 PM
So before I go on, I go trade some items for weapons. Unfortunately, I don't have all of the items I need and actually have to go out of my way to find fights. My money has no power here.

Then I finally move on with the game.

Yes, that is exactly... what I um... was thinking *cough*

So we head through the gate to somewhere else

Then I end up at this snowy place

I would live here I'm not even kidding.

Also, until just now when I saw 12 000 BC I thought it was 1200 AD, which is like 200 years after Chrono and before Freddy's time.

Now it seems this is BEFORE Chrono and would explain it since there was mention of ice age and what have you.

Anyways, I enter some sky dome and arrive here

Oh my. This is really making me wonder what happened between now and Chrono's time that this seems so much more advanced.

So I talk to people and its all magic-y and apparently this place has something to do with dreams.

This also makes sense because I remember being told that people used to almost all have magic. Since I thought this was the future, I thought people got their magic back, but this is just during the time they had it.

Then I find a little boy with a purple kitty that I seriously want to kidnap from him.

Well this is rude :nonono: Do you mean of old age, because I'm pretty sure Madam Ayla is pretty up there at this point. How many years ago was she born by the time 12 000 BC rolls around?

Way to further reinforce that someone is going to die, Lucca.

Yes, that.

Then I leave and go back to snow villa and come back up in the sky and go to another place.

Some discrimination going on here. A few people make snarky comments about the Earthbound ones, which I'm thinking is a video game of some sort?

Also, people are all about some Queen Zeal. Everyone is basically in her fanclub.

Cat seems like a pretty good friend imo

I wonder why they stopped using the Sun's powers?

Then I head to the Blackbird thing

I don't know what you're talking about. Can't a person just time travel in peace without being told they're interfering in everything? Goodness

I find this book about a red stone

Interesting :erm:

And now I need your help readers! These are my current characters and their current levels

Decide who I will bring with me on this part of the adventure!

Also, these are the capsule things I have:

Who should I give what?

Also, that's all for now! Please help me with the thingies listed above so that I may continue the game!

05-15-2014, 07:39 PM
No mention of the music, shion? :(

Also, remember the 11 possible kitties you could get at your house that I told you about? One of them (either number 6 or number 7, I forget which) looks like Alfador, the little kitty that follows Janus around.

I vote for Chrono, Marle, and Ayla. Mostly because I like taking Marle everywhere, and Ayla goes with her, because she can steal some really good stuff from bosses with her Charm technique.

I would live here I'm not even kidding.

So would I. Zeal is fantastic. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised at the former Canadian being at home in the Ice Age though, should we? :D

For Capsules, due to the way game mechanics are set up, Robo is technically the "best" person to give them to. He also doesn't naturally cap magic by level ** IIRC, so he's a good place to dump them. Personally, I hang onto all of mine until I reach max level, then decide who needs what most.

05-15-2014, 07:42 PM
The music is good. The umm... upper world part makes me feel really lonely. I think the music contributes to that, but I'm not entirely sure. I think(?) its the same music for the lower part of the world and the upper part but the upper part makes me feel much lonelier.

I dunno, I'm weird in games :P

Wolf Kanno
05-15-2014, 08:27 PM
I usually use Crono, Marle, and Lucca for this part since they all can use magic, but it is really up to you.

I agree with Skyblade about waiting til the end to deal with capsules until the end because several stats max by level 70, so it's important to give them to the people that don't get maxed stats.

05-15-2014, 08:33 PM
Sure, I can wait to use the capsules!

Also, looking like Marle will be sticking around. Now we need a tie breaker between Madam Ayla and Lucca *coughFynncough*

05-15-2014, 08:42 PM
Go with Lucca then ;)

05-15-2014, 09:59 PM
So I'm in magic ville and head to magic castle

Then people are talking about a prophet

And talking about how accurate all of his prophesies have been. Is he from the future?

How strange indeed

So I enter a room and find the purple haired duo (trio if you count the cat)

There's basically some talk about the Queen is not so great anymore.

Then I find a lady who was told to burn a tree for reasons I don't understand so I tell her not to.

Then we see purple haired girl opening a door with a pendent like Marle's but Marle's doesn't work.

To the machine!

It seems they are using Lavos for energy, which seems like not such a good thing. Or maybe it is. I just figured using the thing that destroys the world as an energy source is not usually the best course of action.

So I get my pendent all pimped up and head to the place with the people

Oh my gosh I just got here, I don't even know what your plans are, geez.

Then I have to fight this thing so that what's his name can imprison and kill me.

It's pretty ugly.

So he captures me anyway, which I feel like he should have just done in the first place and saved us all some time.

Purple haired girl comes to rescue me, despite being told by her brother that she'll get in trouble.

Yeah, I don't... I don't remember agreeing to that.

I don't know where that is.

Anyways, Prophet McJerkBag comes over and threatens to kill us but we have to show him how we got here. So we do through no choice of my own.

She agrees and we get sent back to Madam Ayla's time.

Marle remembers a similar door to the one her pendent unlocked back in Freddy's time.

But I don't wanna go there :crying:

But we head back to the end of time

You think?

Thank you, that's... that's super helpful

Will I have more fun in Freddy's time than I did before? Will I find a way to fly time travel? Will I ever get back to purple haired girl? Tune in next time!

05-15-2014, 10:03 PM
I'm going to semi-spoil something. There is a side quest later on that you simply cannot do if you tell her to burn the tree. So telling her to keep the tree will have a really cool reward for you later on (it's also a really awesome side quest).

Remember where you've been in Freddy's time. You might not find the right door right away.

05-15-2014, 10:05 PM
Argh I hate Freddy's time arghhgehsgsjhsj

*rolls around and fusses*

05-15-2014, 10:08 PM
Argh I hate Freddy's time arghhgehsgsjhsj

Well, if you liked it, you wouldn't be trying to stop the event that caused it, would you? You're not supposed to like the Future. It's a dystopia that you're trying to prevent.

05-16-2014, 06:30 AM
Frog for life! He has the single greatest theme song of just about any video game character ever.

Wolf Kanno
05-16-2014, 07:49 AM
I like Robo's time period, all the interesting stuff happens there despite being a dystopian hell hole. Zeal is still my favorite location and the point where the story really changes.

05-16-2014, 08:48 PM
So I head back to Freddy's time and go through the sewers and then head to the place where the crazy old man was.

But apparently the crazy old man is dead! I unlock the sealed door in to the next area, where there are a bunch of shinies that give me some story.

What this is is story line up to this point abridged.

Apparently Lavos is just chillin on the mountain top not far from here.

Greatest invention, oh my

Okay, I get it, stop Lavos. I really wish you guys would stop harping on that.

Then he once more talks about his super great invention

Which turns out to be a flying craft of some sort.

Then he asks me to name it.

Seems like a good enough name to me.

So in I go and off we fly!

Madam Ayla asks if the thing is alive and I honestly thought it would be pretty amusing to bring the cave woman on this thing.

Anyways, apparently it can travel through time but it can't just fly me around, so I have to walk around like a barbarian.

I go back to the magic time of magic and everything is pretty much sealed off except this one place.

Isn't this sad? This is sad

Then some people talk about building things and being treated like slaves and such

And also about purple haired boy who supposedly has more powers than his sister.

Then I apparently agree to go rescue that guy on the Mountain of Woe. Who would name it that?

Person A: Guys, we need to name this mountain that we have attached to these chains here.
Person B: Mount Chain!
Person A: EhhhhhhHhHhH not lovin it
Person C: Mount Woe
Person B: Well that's not very... I mean, we're kind of just setting it up so we never have any tourists ever. "Come to Mount Woe! Full of... Woe...."
Person A: I love it!

Then I fight these thingies.

Pretty colours.

05-16-2014, 08:58 PM
So I climb up Mt. Woe and it takes a long time and I do not enjoy it. Then I find this ice thingy.

And then I have to do this boss fight:

I figured Bosses have a lot of HP, so I took this opportunity to use some techs that I never use. There's this really fun one where Marle makes Madam Ayla throw a giant icicle. Actually, now that I think about it, Madam Ayla has many techs that revolve around throwing things.

So anyways I beat him and the ice that disappeared for the boss fight returns so it can thaw out.

Madam Ayla is better with names than I am. And better at striking a pose when startled.

As if you don't remember me from the future :stare: Thanks a lot you jerk.

Uh huh

I'm really not concerned. This happened in the past so things seem to be alright. Lavos doesn't get awakened until like 600 AD and then doesn't destroy the world until 1999 AD so I mean

Anyways, there goes the mountain.

Fl.. floating away...

Then we go back to the poor non-magic people and then purple haired girl stops by

Well that's nice of her!

Old dude asks if its safe for her to be here and stuff and she's says its okay

But Dalton disagrees!

Its like they seriously wait behind the wall for the perfect opportunity to barge in. "What are they talking about? Magic? No not yet. Have to wait for her to bring up not using her pendent aaaaaaandd... THERE IT IS"

Dalton is also very abusive and its people

I really didn't volunteer for any of this so.................

I mean all of this stuff got done before I was time traveling, so I mean.....

Unless I actually had time traveled and that's how things ended up as they did but all of that is too confusing so I'm going to ignore it and assume people here are just lazy.

So will I destroy the mammoth mammon machine in time? Find out next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-16-2014, 10:27 PM
You might want to switch to a party consisting of Crono, Lucca, and either Marle or Frog because the next dungeon has enemies that are only hurt by specific elements. If you have either group's triple tech, you can do all elements or Just use Marle and Lucca's Anitpode to deal with Shadow elements. If you don't bring one of each element the fight might drag on, but considering you are over-leveled for this point in the game you may also be able to brute force your way through this dungeon with no problem.

05-16-2014, 10:30 PM
I just switched to Frog and Freddy so I can just switch Freddy out for Lucca

05-16-2014, 11:43 PM
I tend to just physically bash them. As long as you're running two of the following: Frog, Ayla, Robo, it's pretty easy to smash your way through.

Mister Adequate
05-17-2014, 02:10 AM
Always Use Frog.

05-17-2014, 07:28 AM
So we go try to stop evil Queen bad bad and run in to Dalton AGAIN

That is very hurtful and I don't appreciate it when you say things like that

So anyways, I beat him up and he leaves and I go to the underwater place and fight a whole bunch of monsters.

During all of this, purple haired girl is getting basically beat up and Lavos starts going out of control.

Then I run in to Dalton ONCE AGAIN and he makes me do more fighting.

So I fight those Golem thingies and then Dalton seems like he's trying to threaten me some more, but then he gets side tracked.

Good point

Then we finally get to where we're going with the Queen and Lucca and Frog take this chance to pull some one liners.

Yes, stop flirting with the alien creature! That is most unbecoming of a Queen!

So then the red blade we got turns in to the Masamune and stabs the machine

Then this leads to a fight with Lavos, which I lose. I looked it up and it turns out I need to be around level 90 to win this fight, which I most certainly am not. I'm at level 65-70ish.

So I lose and then prophet guy shows up

Did not see this coming :erm:

Does this mean luscious hair man is a time traveler too?

So umm... Lavos feels no wrath and Magus gets his butt handed to him.

Th... this really isn't the time for that, Frog.

So anyways, some drama happens and Chrono tries to stand up to Lavos all by himself.

And then we are reminded of this here:

So, turns out it's Chrono :cat:

He basically turns to dust and dies.

It's sad, but Freddy and Madam Ayla are still around so I'm okay.

I'm okay, don't worry about me

I said stop worrying

get out of my house

Purple haired girl now saves the rest of our butts.

And then bad things happen like this:

And tidal waves. Overall, not good. Purple haired boy and old man get sucked in to a gate, purple haired girl is gone, and Lucca and the others are told that yes, Chrono is in face dead. Luckily, the Epoch and the pendant are okay so, you know, we've got that going for us.

Tune in next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-17-2014, 07:54 AM

05-17-2014, 08:03 AM
You mention what happened to Janus (the purple haired boy), but you made no mention of his cat? Is Alfador ok?! We have to know!

05-17-2014, 08:05 AM
I DON'T KNOW OKAY :crying:

Also, I'm going to be mass playing this tonight (probably) so stay tuned for much update!!

Wolf Kanno
05-17-2014, 08:12 AM
I love that cat, and he's loyal too. ;)

05-17-2014, 09:27 AM
So we go exploring and find out that the magic peoples are no longer magic peoples. Then this happens:

Ugh, you are just the worst

Anyways, Dalton shows up and tells me he is going to steal the Epoch

It would, Freddy. It really would.

Sadly, Dalton ignores Freddy's concerns and throws a fire ball at him. Freddy parries the fireball. Dalton then tells us to look behind us and hits us with his fireballs, exclaiming about his might.

You really are just the worst kind of person.

So we end up here

Yes Madam Ayla, that is the sky. Good job!

Apparently we are on the blackbird and our weapons and stuff have been confiscated and scattered around the ship. Because why not?

Luckily, Madam Ayla needs no weapons to kick butt!

Eventually we end up here:

Which leads to a boss fight:

I... so am I

Sadly, I kill the dude anyways. Chick? I dunno

Dalton meanwhile

I hate you so much

Comes and steals our ship which will FLY FOR HIM BUT NOT FOR ME

Which of course leads to another boss fight

So I win and he dies, basically.

Anyways, after Madam Ayla commenting about how Epoch has now become a bird *cough* and pressing the X button, we land safely.

Also I totally found purple cat :omgomg:

Then some people tell me about a guy who washed up on shore and Marle is all about rescuing some Chrono. Will it be him?!?!?!

Then he tells me about how the three old dudes were sent through different time periods thanks to Lavos

And so was he

We see that old dude 1 ended up in Medina Village (in those poor monsters houses. Imagine having a gate in your cupboard that time travelers were always just wandering through)

And crazy old dude ended up in Freddy's period.

This old dude doesn't know where he is

I dunno

And purple haired boy ends up in 600 AD and runs in to Ozzie and them.

And then as it turns out

Did not see this coming

But then... how come we saw the younger him here? The three old guys are still gone so how come his younger self is here and his older self is also here when supposedly his younger self is in Frog's time?

He's been trying to get to Lavos, basically.

Then he calls us stupid and calls Chrono stupid and picks a fight. I don't fight him because... well I just don't really want to.

But apparently he will join me sans invitation anyways! Then he says we may be able to get Chrono back.

*sigh* fiiiine.

It is absurd how late in the game I'm getting characters. Also, he's at level 37 :stare:

Will I rescue Chrono?!?! Tune in next time!

Wolf Kanno
05-17-2014, 09:44 AM
Basically, in the original timeline, Magus is killed by Lavos in the Middle Ages. The flashback he shows you is his memory of how he got flung into the past but since your party screwed with the ceremony and everyone got sent through a gate, the Magus you fought in the Middle Ages ended up back in his own time and since he already knew what happened by being their as a child, he passed himself off as a Prophet to get another shot at destroying Lavos. Also, put him in the party and let him talk to his cat for a cute Easter Egg. ;)

You now have all the party members in the game. Also, Magus is the only optional character, if you fought him, he would be killed and it would slightly alter the ending. If you have Frog in your party when you challenge him, it's a duel with just Frog fighting him. Regardless, Magus is pretty fun and he's level 37 cause that is the level you should technically be at this point. 54770

05-17-2014, 09:49 AM
I was planning to bring him to the kitty!

I know that's the level I should be, but some games have a character start at character level-1 or character level+5 or what have you. Was a bit sad this one did not :(. He'll probably catch up quickly though, I hope.

Also, a little birdie told me I'm about 3/4 of the way done, but I love doing Let's Play's so go here if you want to see me do another (I will anyways so you might as well enjoy it): http://home.eyesonff.com/showthread.php/156571-Help-me-decide!

I'm also told there's a lot of optional and side thingies to do so after I beat the game I do plan to come back and try that stuff again at a later date, once I've had a bit of a break from the game, because that's how I play games :P

05-17-2014, 09:50 AM
The timey-wimey stuff in this game is really quite simple.

So, in a previous timeline, one without Chrono et al., little Janus and the Gurus get sent into different time periods.

Janus grows up into Magus and tries to kill Lavos.

After he fights your party, he gets sucked into a portal, just like you, only instead of being sent into 65,000,000 BC like you guys, he gets sent back into 12,000 BC to a time before all that Lavos thing happened. That's why we have two Janus' here, one big, one small. This is now a seperate timeline. Your actions have changed the course of time, which is why what you saw is a bit different from what Magus remembers.

Got it?

05-17-2014, 09:52 AM
I get that but if he (child he) got sent to different times along with the old men, how come the old men are gone but child he is still there? I thought it all happened at once? So if it was before child him got send to 600 AD, wouldn't it be before the other 3 got sent away?

Sorry if I'm being stupid, I'm just a bit confused

05-17-2014, 09:55 AM
The Gurus didn't get sent to 600 AD, though. Melchior got sent to 1000 AD, Balthazar is in 2300 AD, and Gaspar is at the End of Time. Nobody got sent to the same time period as someone else, but it did happen at the same time.

Technically everything after this point is optional. If really wanted to, you could go fight Lavos right now and get one of the often missed endings when you see guidebooks for this game. This is basically an updated version of FFVI's WoR section where you are now just tying up all the loose plot threads. With the exception of Ayla and Magus' time periods, there is a lot to do in 600 A.D., 1000 A.D., and 2300 A.D.

Now that the Epoch can fly, you can fully explore all the time periods and reach continents you couldn't before, so start exploring.

The Gurus didn't get sent to 600 AD, though. Melchior got sent to 1000 AD, Balthazar is in 2300 AD, and Gaspar is at the End of Time. Nobody got sent to the same time period as someone else, but it did happen at the same time.

Yes and No, as I mentioned you changed history when you fought Magus in 600 A.D. he was meant to be killed by Lavos. Instead he got sent back in time to his own time period and became the Prophet. He manipulated events slightly but ultimately his fate is sealed and his child self was sent to 600 A.D. differently from his memory.

Yeah, I'd heard about there being like 14 endings or something that you can get at different points in the game and someone recommended I go back after I finish it and get try for the most endings I can. Like get a guide and save before whatever triggers the ending and then continue and keep doing that to see the most endings possible.

I'm pretty sure I've missed some of them already in this playthrough so I would like to go back and see them next time

05-17-2014, 10:01 AM
There's some endings that you can only get with New Game +, though.

05-17-2014, 10:02 AM
All the more reason to play it later on after I finish it!

What does New Game+ entail in this game? Do you keep all abilities and your level and stuff?

Wolf Kanno
05-17-2014, 10:04 AM
Technically it should be impossible to get all but four of them at this point and even then they are basically just two endings with a variation to them depending on how you reach Lavos by either fighting through the Black Omen, traveling to 1999 A.D. through the bucket at the End of Time, or using the Epoch to reach him in 1999. The other variation I'll elaborate on when you get a bit farther in.

New Game+ allows you to keep all your equipment and items, all the techs you learned and your levels. The game also introduces a new gate to fight Lavos that is accessible from the beginning of the game to help you get the various endings.

05-17-2014, 02:39 PM
Also I totally found purple cat :omgomg:

This is entirely the correct reaction.

Anyway, on to the timey-wimey ball. Magus/Janus has been thrown through time portals twice. The first time, he was thrown from the Dark Ages forward to the Middle Ages, where he become ruler of the fiends through his incredible awesome magic power and long flowing hair. Then, after his fight with Lavos, he gets tossed back to the Dark Ages, where he's there as the Prophet.

Child Janus should no longer be visible in this time period. He went back to 600 AD, and isn't in the Dark Ages anymore. If you see him while you're there exploring after that stuff has happened... Then something has gone wrong with your game.

In terms of actual, intended game "main plot", you only have a couple of dungeons left. But there are about to be a bunch of sidequests that open up that will give you a ton of extra game time.

05-17-2014, 10:26 PM
So I bring Jamanus to see kitty and kitty follows me around and hops excitedly

Then I head back to the Epoch

Apparently because of that thing

Then I see some scenes from the other worlds of them being affected or whatever.

Anyways, then I begin my time travel sidequest quest. Thing is, I'm scared to check out most of it because I don't want to accidentally trigger moving on with the game. So I looked up a list of sidequests without looking at how to complete them to see how well I can do on my own.

Today we are doing #1, Fiona something something!

I remember her from 600 AD because there was never anything going on. But now, she is missing tress all around her house, her husband has returned, and she wants to plant a seedling but can't because apparently monsters.

Then I go all over the world map looking for what her husband is talking about, only to find it about 3 feet away from her house.

(Manus looks like he's strutting down a catwalk in this pic)

Which of course means boss fight

An annoyingly long one. And I swear that they can tell Magus is at like half of my level because he took a good 80% of the hits.

I switch around my characters to try them out after thinking for about 20 minutes on if I have to go find someone. Then I switch to Freddy (okay he was the first one I switched to) and ta da

So hearing the "centuries on end" I head to the future to find Freddy. Luckily, its the first future I try

(Also, Magus is totally standing right there)

F... Freddy? :G

Oh thank goodness. I was seriously scared I had done something wrong and lost Freddy forever

So turns out the nuns are totally cool with us removing Freddy and then we go camping!

Interesting conversation. I wonder who it is?

Anyways so, they start wondering if someone is maybe making us witness these events for a reason. Marle then asks Lucca if there's any moment she might want to relive and Lucca gets uncomfortable.

So everyone passes out and Lucca wakes up and doesn't molest her friends but instead goes for a walk.

And finds a gate

And ends up here

We see a note on the floor from Lucca presumably who is upset about her dad and all of his science stuff, which is odd coming from Lucca.

Then I leave the room and find her mother getting herself caught in a conveyor belt.

At first I thought she was calling to me and was wondering why she didn't say anything is she saw me, but then I realized that the little girl is past Lucca and not like, Lucca's little sister or something.

So good thing I saved because it took me 6 friggin tries to save her mother. If I fail (which I did, many times) her mother's legs are broken and Lucca takes an interest in science to avoid something like that happening again. If I am successful... well basically the same thing but with no broken legs.

Then I head back through the portal and meet Freddy

Aww thank you Freddy :3:

And that's all for today!

I hope the sidequests continue to give me some backstory!

05-17-2014, 10:41 PM
Yeah, the Guru's are kind of an odd bit of writing in Chrono Trigger. None of them were their to get sucked into the Timegate when Lavos woke up due to The Prophets meddling, so it's somewhat of a mystery how they are still found every where else in time.

Wolf Kanno
05-17-2014, 10:59 PM
I'm sure Magus had them removed by timegate just to keep some of the events going the same and also because he didn't want them meddling in his revenge.

05-17-2014, 11:02 PM
But Melchior was still there up until that point, he handed you the Red Knife just before Ocean Palace. And yet after Ocean Palace? Gone.

We don't really get to see why he is no longer in that time period, since he was no longer sucked up by Time Gate at Lavos's awakening. And Magus clearly has no control over the time gates, nor an ability to predict where they will send you.

05-18-2014, 12:54 AM
Lavos didn't cause the Gates, though. The Entity did. Maybe it wanted to make sure that the Gurus wound up where they were needed.

Also, shion, you need to go visit Lucca's mom now that you saved her from losing her legs.

I also now think that the :omgomg: smiley should be renamed :shion kitty:

05-18-2014, 02:43 AM
I also now think that the :omgomg: smiley should be renamed :shion kitty:

I am for this

05-18-2014, 06:21 AM

I remember reading some theories on it on Chrono Compendium. Two seem to explain this - Time Traveler's Immunity and Time Bastard. The first one says that the holder of the Gate Key is immune to the changes brought on by time travel, possibly extending it to those that are important to his quest, which is why they are still in touch with the original timeline's Magus and Gurus. But with Time Bastard, things get grim - one timeline can only support one version of a person, so these tied to Time Traveler's Immunity get to stay because they're important, and the new timeline versions cease to exist. So the Janus and Gurus from the new timeline don't exist anymore, neither does the Lucca who knows of a childhood without seeing her mom lose her legs.

I mean, it's all just theories, but Chrono Cross kinda supports it with all the Time Devourer stuff.

05-18-2014, 07:13 AM
So I head over to Lucca's house and meet her parents and her dad gives me some stuff.

Yay not in a wheelchair :jess:

Anywas, sidequest 2 is called Ozzie something something, so I assume I need to head back to 600 AD AGAIN

Then I have to find Ozzie which takes a while.

:omgomg: He looks so adorable :omgomg:

Look, 2 Freddy's! Can I keep them both?

I finally find Ozzie's hideout thing

He doesn't look happy to see me.

Anyways, Magus tries to say hi and Ozzie is not having it. So of course I can't just leave the man in peace and I follow him in to his home.

Also, apparently Flea isn't dead.

Magus: Excuse me?

And apparently Slash also isn't dead.

And some point he sends 2 monsters down after me but um

They fall off the conveyor belts and die.

Then Ozzie hides a treasure chest behind a blade to try and kill me (who even has this in their house?)

Not at the cost of my head I don't :stare:

I feel a bit bad for Ozzie now :-/

Then he does his whole ice shield thing so I hit the switch behind him and I fall.

So I come back and then

Then Ozzie dies (I assume)

Then I head back to the future to see what has happened and I find the monsters of Medina are no longer worshiping the rise of the monsters and they don't hate humans and things are super happy :jess:

Also this:

Tune in next time for more sidequesting!

05-18-2014, 07:22 AM
I actually feel bad for Ozzie VIII. Couldn't he become nice and happy too? It's like right generations later, Ozzie's descendants have to repent for his sins :(

05-18-2014, 07:42 AM
I actually feel bad for Ozzie VIII. Couldn't he become nice and happy too? It's like right generations later, Ozzie's descendants have to repent for his sins :(

Eh, it's like the reveal about Biff Tannen's family in Back to the Future III. Sometimes, just being a massive jerk is genetic.

The Epoch is cooler than the DeLorean, though.

Besides, Ozzie the VIII spent his whole life building off the status of his ancestor. That didn't change. He just now is building himself off the status of an ancestor who was killed by a kitty cat.

But I hated that too!

Being a jerk is so not genetic. :colbert:

05-18-2014, 08:16 AM
Okay so the next sidequest is in future land and I cheated and looked up where it was because I hate future land and I don't want to be here any longer than necessary.

I kind of wish I had kept the guide up because my goodness this area was a pain in the butt to figure out :colbert:

So there's this robot who is not for some humans (racist)

She then tells me the planet would be much better off without humans and it hurts my feels :(

Then I find some humans on a conveyor belt (I think?) I only caught it out of the corner of my eye because my cat has bad timing for sticking hi butt in my face.

To the Mother Brain!

After ridiculously long trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing :stare:

It's really hurtful when you say things like that, Mother Brain :G

So I continue on my way and meet Lady Freddy

Freddette, if you will.

Or that. Not as cool as Freddette, but whatever

P... pretend :G

See, I told you guys his name was Freddy

So then I fight Freddette mano-a-mano. Or robot-a-roboto?

And I win

Then she's talking about how she lost her memory and stuff :(

Lucca is so kind

So I continue on my way sadly with Fredette having died.

Her ribbon was so cute :G Her and Freddy could have made mini-Freddies. Fred Jr.'s :(

This is really starting to hurt my feelings and I don't appreciate your tone :colbert:

So I meet Mother Brain and she's pretty foxy.

More importantly, she wants to make Freddy all evil badbad but Freddy is better than that!

And then we win and Freddy does some computer stuffs

Poor Freddy. This was a sad sidequest.

Will the next one be happier? Tune in next time and find out!

Part of me feels you should play Chrono Cross for your next Let's Play but then I don't think you would survive the emotional toil it would put you through.

05-18-2014, 08:21 AM
I tried it but the gameplay made me all meeeehhhhhhhhhhhh

Once you finish this, perhaps I will! THough I have already played it, I have been meaning ot do another run. :p

Though you'll have to clear out the Optional Dimensional Vortex stuff in New game plus before I do. :colbert:

CT is about making you feel all warm and cozy about doing the right thing. CC is about learning all you did in CT was the equivalent of Sisyphus task (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus) and then watching them pretty much destroy any good feelings you have about CT by doing horrible things to most of its cast and world. It gets better but not after a few soap box speeches about screwing with the natural order of things and even it's good ending is kind of a downer ending.

05-18-2014, 10:04 AM
Not to say that in CT you just should have stood back and done nothing, I mean you still save the world and what not. It's just that it doesn't wrap up as neatly as portrayed at the end of CT. :p

Though you'll have to clear out the Optional Dimensional Vortex stuff in New game plus before I do. :colbert:

You don't have to be in New Game+ to access the Dimensional Vortex. You just need to have beaten the game. When you reload the file, the Vortex will pop up, even without restarting into New Game+.

05-18-2014, 10:26 PM
sharky started Chrono Cross today :greenie:

05-18-2014, 10:53 PM
Oh, well fuck you then. O_O

05-18-2014, 10:59 PM
I still want to see your Let's Play :onoes:

05-19-2014, 12:27 AM
BTW, since you're afraid of ending the game, I'm going to point out the ways to do that:

Using the Bucket at the End of Time.
Flying the Epoch to the year 1999.
Completing the Black Omen side quest (actually, you can still avoid the end even after completing this, but it puts you into the endgame).

As long as you don't do one of those, you're good. So go find the Guru of Time and get Crono back!

05-19-2014, 01:04 AM
Right away or should I wait?

05-19-2014, 04:27 AM
Right away, because once you get him back (in addition to it having a couple really well written scenes in the side quest), you'll be able to track the side quests that you have left to complete.

05-19-2014, 06:55 AM
So because of this Let's Play, I streamed Chrono Trigger earlier. I got to the trial part and I noticed something about the jurors. I didn't feel that I should make a thread about this, so I decided to put it in here since this is the best area for Chrono Trigger discussion these days.

05-19-2014, 09:33 PM
Alrighty so Skyblade has told me to take a break from sidequesting and go rescue Chrono.

First I bring Magus to the weird guy at the end of time.

As I expected.

So then we go see the old man and he asks about Chrono and we tell him Chrono is dead.

Here is the song, if you want to hear it!

Then the old man talks about how Magus has become powerful and stuff.

Pretty sure this is how Pet Cemetery started.

So we leave and then he calls us back. MAKE UP YOUR MIND OLD MAN

How conveniently named!

Dun dun duuuunnn

So I head back to see old dead crazy guy who put himself in that weird creature.

Yes, if only :|

Apparently he like fairs! Alright...

So I head back to 1000 AD and go to the fair (how long does this thing go on for?!)

Well I didn't have enough points, which took away some of the drama of it all. But then I fought the robot thing again with the cool music and TADA

Then I won the Chrono doll and it only cost me 30 silver points and 30 000 dollars :nonono:

I head back to Chrono's house and his mom awkwardly asks how Chrono's doing and if he's staying out of trouble. I feel bad for Lucca here.

So she agrees and we head BACK to 2300 AD because they are just packing as much time travel as they can in to this half hour.

What is with those dolls?!!? They do everything in this game!

Those dolls should fight Lavos

Oh, well this is... :(

So I kill let him rest and head up the mountain thing place.

Oh look a fight!

So I have to fight that thing 3 times and then I realize I can 1 hit KO it with one of Madam Ayla and Lucca's joined attacks. Those dolls also turn in to trees and give me advice along the way.

I arrive at the peak and we try to use the Chrono Trigger and the pendent reacts

Well that can't be good :erm:

Oh my

Then we end up back at the fight with Lavos

And I have to swap the doll out with the real Chrono before Chrono dies.

I like the lights on the tree

Lucca then proceeds to fuss at him and Chrono of course says nothing.

Chrono is rescued! Time for more sidequesting. Stay tuned next time!

05-19-2014, 10:22 PM
Sidequest time!

This one said something about a sun stone which wasn't very specific at all, so I spanned the eras looking for places that say "sun"

I found quite a few.

Eventually I ran in to this guy:

And finally find the sun stone.

Well that... is oddly specific :|

So to Madam Ayla's time!

I head back to the place that said "Sun" when I was searching earlier.

Good Sun. Very good.

Then I head back to where I fought the boss in 2300 AD. Nothing there

Then I realize there is another sun place at the exact same spot on the map as in Madam Ayla's time so I go there.

This time it wasn't caused by my stupidity!

And there's still dust?

She said a long time ago so I head back to her time

Still there.

I head to Magus's time (child Magus)

Still there.

I head to Frog's time

I head to Chrono's time

Realistically, this means it could have happened anytime within that 400 year period, but since they don't allow you to travel to 700, 800, or 900 AD, or any of the years in between, this probably means it happened in 600 AD. Because game.

Eventually I find a strangely shiny house (after searching elsewhere first, of course) and enter it

I... really? Is that it? You aren't going to send me to some time in the past/future to complete some weird requirement because it turns out you only like a certain kind of fruit that only happened to grow that one time or something like that?

Oh my.

So I put the sun stone back and head back to the future.

But I just switched her out GAH

So I am auto transported to Lucca's house and she makes a weapon and her dad makes... sunglasses. Yep.

Tune in next time!

05-19-2014, 10:31 PM
Yeah, he won't give you the sunstone unless you gave Jerky to the poor home in the middle ages. If you don't, he's a seflish jerk. If you do, they make sure to teach their kids the value of sharing and helping others, and thus he gives you the sunstone. :p

05-20-2014, 01:22 AM
Seeing shion fight the Lavos spawns reminds me of an amusing observation my girlfriend made when I played through the game last year. Made this picture because of it:

05-20-2014, 01:34 AM
I hadn't noticed that :P

I always thought he looked like a mutant porcupine/slug

05-20-2014, 05:39 AM
So this one took some investigative work. The mission said something about ghosts and the middle ages, so I headed over to 600 AD and flew around until I figured out what the heck was going on.

I find these weird creepy kids.

Something about some ruins... this seems promising.

Very interesting

Oh, yay~ I totally forgot about you. He gives me some spirits. Not the ghost kind, though.

Oh... okay

I'm getting the feeling I need to find the carpenter.

Oh, I see.

But apparently I need tools. Where do I find tools? Normally at the store, but because its this game TIME TRAVEL

I eventually find them in the future.

Oh :(

So I find the tools and give them to the carpenter guys and meet them at the north shrine thingy.

So I do that and then have to pay them some monies to come back.

Then I find Cyrus's grave

D'aww happy moment.

Then something happens with the Masamune again

So then I head to the future to see my effects of my awesomeness

Then I head back to 600 AD to find that other guy's grave but then I remember that he's still alive

oops :erm:

So back to the future!

And for once, they finally show me where I'm going :stare:

Tune in next time as I attempt to find the rainbow whatever!

05-20-2014, 05:59 AM
Oh, goody. The Rainbow Shell leads to such utterly epic events. I cannot wait. :squee:

05-20-2014, 08:37 PM
Okay so I head over the the claw whatever and find a note

I head further in and realize the place looks rather familiar

Rather familiar indeed...

I even run in to an old friend

Which of course leads to a boss fight.

Once, that is complete, I find the rainbow shell

When switching party members doesn't work, I leave, which brings me to the castle.

They agree to this and everyone is super happy. Since they mentioned for generations, I head to the future.

Also, in case you've noticed, I'm trying to make my party plot relevant characters. Like Madam Ayla in the reptite looking place and Frog because it was 600 AD. Also Magus because he's like 15 levels behind.

So now I switched to Marle and left frog because it was connected to the 600 AD story, even though I'm heading to the future and also he has connections to the royal family.

So we bring in Marle and she talks to the chancellor, who mentions her mother.

Apparently the king said he was too busy with work.

Then the Chancellor indicates that some might even say the King killed her, which is a bit of a stretch imo.

Anyways, so the King is on trial for supposedly selling the Rainbow Shell, which no one even knew of until this trial.

Anyways the trial goes on with a bunch of nonsense and Marle wants to prove his innocence.

Of course it is! So I have to go looking for it and find thse two

My goodness people can hold grudges in this game. IT HAS BEEN OVER FOR 400 YEARS. LET IT GO

05-20-2014, 08:44 PM

Ugh you guys are stupid.

So we find the shell along with a note.

What a nice letter.

Then we rush back in order to prove the King's innocence.

Hmm, unfortunate.

Yeah that's not something suspicious to say in court or anything.

So the guards won't let Marle in to the trial. How does she solve this?

A bit extremely.

Then we get to prove the innocence of the King with a shard from the rainbow shell

Another boss fight. Seriously, you guys need to learn to let stuff go.

I like how the audience is just chillin there while all of this is happening.

The King and his daughter have a nice touching moment after the defeat of loser mcjerkface.

Then he tells Marle about how she was so happy when her mother was on her deathbed, making Marle realize the story about him was a lie.

Man this guy just comes out of nowhere.

Also, everyone is all super happy with Frog for everything he's done. I go back to the court place to get the shiny which unlock a chest.

He starts to introduce himself but then leaves because he's busy.

Old dude makes me some stuff using the rainbow shell and my previously acquired sun stone.

And that's all for now! Tune in next time!

05-20-2014, 11:52 PM
Just so you know, you missed the scene where Marle tries to kill the King.

When they first fight, if you visit him with some Jerky in your inventory, you can offer it to him. It's one of his favorite foods, and Marle gives it as a peace offering. But he rages on, pointing out that Marle knows he has high cholesterol and needs to watch his diet, and that she must be trying to kill him.

I love this quest. It's just so fun. Plus, it's full of hints about the fake chancellor, such as the fact that the enemies near the Rainbow Shell are all enemies from the Church in 600 AD, or the mentions about the family grudge.

05-20-2014, 11:55 PM
Boo I missed that scene :( Oh well, guess I can't get it all perfectly the first time around.

Also, what the heck happened with the reptites or whatever they're called. I find the dragon thing and the cave billions of years later and then it goes off to Marle's story and then it's just... that's it. Nothing more about the reptites just chillin in the cave after billions of years.

Also, if you want to head over to the last page of my attempted drawings thread, I drew Madam Ayla :jess:

05-21-2014, 06:12 AM
Okay so the last sidequest says something about Zeal, so I head to 12000 BC or whenever it is and find what used to be the underwater place just floatin around.

I already have Magus in my party so I just add Madam Ayla and Freddy because they are my favorites.

Then I find the loony Queen Zeal

Only 1400 years? Well then!

Then she makes me fight this ugly thing

Really, what's wrong with having attractive bosses once in a while?

And guess what? After ridiculous amounts of time spent in this area, I get to fight that thing 2 more times!

Each time as annoying as the last. With much dungeon in between. Finally I arrive to this:

Well that can't be good :erm:

It's another not Lavos Lavos boss fight!

After that fight I find this creepy place.

That's... that's awkward. Sure enough there are floating copies of my characters all over the place.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Apparently the Mammon Machine eats.

So I fight it and I win.

But it doesn't end there. Oh no.

You, LADY, have some serious issues.

Magus basically tells her that, which she doesn't take well

And that leads to another boss fight.

Why... what is this? She just turned herself in to floating gloves and part of a face. That's impressive in its own way.

Ugh, it just never ends with this lady.

Oh my :erm:

OH MY

So... so apparently I'm fighting Lavos?

He seems to imitate a lot of the previous bosses I fought. Eventually I defeat him.

05-21-2014, 06:21 AM
Relax, you can take a gate within Lavos' shell and do whatever if you wish!

05-21-2014, 06:22 AM
*epicness intensifies*

05-21-2014, 06:26 AM
I head in to the core to find Lavos, which looks nothing like the Lavos' I have fought up until this point.

I like how Freddy can tell just by looking at him.

So I fight him and win :jess:

I win right? That's it??

That's it... right?

I... ugh. Haven't I had enough boss fights these past few hours, game?!?!?!

Then this happens and I can't help but laugh

Especially with Madam Ayla's battle pose

So I defeat him and junk and then everything goes black

Isn't he dead? Oh no wait, I revived him, nevermind.

Of course, Marle is totally not cool with this plan

She be all like "No, we had a reason for leaving"

And her dad is like "jk"

We haven't been through enough trauma, apparently.

I don't remember who that old guy is

I remember him

*sigh* Hi Kino :eep:

Then Marle asks why all of these people are here and Lucca explains she brough them and that all of them are Marle's ancestors.

Which means Kino is related to Marle :stare:

Which means someone, probably Madam Ayla, actually had sex with Kino :stare:

Yeah, you think about that next time

As you can see, I get some super cool dancers and pretty lights and... and red headed children(?)

See? There's a drunk and there's Chrono's mom

And the kitty :omgomg:

Th.. thanks mom :|

05-21-2014, 06:35 AM

Well, mostly.

I had fun too, Madam Ayla :squeeze:

To which Marle agrees before saying

So Madam Ayla throws Kino through the portal and flips in after him, presumably for sexy times.

It's weird think of them as related.

Frog says his goodbyes and Marle gives him a kiss.

Marle asks if Magus is going to look for his sister (who I really wish had been a playable character) and he ignores her and leaves.

Then Lucca says that since they've changed the future

Freddy cries two and says his goodbyes.

Then, as we talk about dismantling the Epoch, Chrono's kitty jumps through the gate and then so does his mother, chasing after kitty.

Then Chrono looks super happy that his mother has vanished.

The trio is all excited about having a reason to time travel again

But Marle's dad has a final surprise for him

The we promptly ditch him for TIME TRAVEL

The End~

I really enjoyed this game and I had a lot of fun! I'll be writing a review for it for the site, so keep an eye out :jess:

I hope you had fun too!

This was an excellent Let's Play! Glad you enjoyed the game!

I really did! It didn't beat out my top 5 games, but it was certainly a very good game and I would recommend it to RPG fans.

Also, took me 21 days (started on May 1st) and 17ish game hours! That's a pretty short game, actually

Yeah, I hear you in terms of shortness. I don't fault the game for anything for it, but I been streaming a regular NG for the past three days and I am not too far away from beating it, even if I do all the side quests.

I'm shocked. You didn't show the ending itself? You didn't show the trips across time, and the fates of the characters? You didn't show Freddy's happy ending?

05-21-2014, 07:51 AM
Pft, who needs a happy ending anyway.

It didn't show me any of that :onoes:

I'll boot the game back up and see if it glitched out or something. It's done it a few times but reseting usually takes care of it

As the credits play it should show Crono, Marle, and Lucca in the Epoch, screaming across time. You pass multiple time periods, and get to see how everyone turns out. Including Prometheus (my favorite name for Robo, even though you can't name him that because it doesn't fit) and Atropos on a green cliff looking at pretty scenery.

Unless you got the ending where it's just Marle and Crono drifting away on balloons, but you shouldn't get that one if Crono's mom went through the portal.

I just got a black screen after the fireworks. I rebooted it a few times and tried again and that's still all I get :(. I even let it sit to see, but nothing. I think my game glitched out on me

We can't have that! Not at all!

Credits start about eight minutes in.

Plus, the music is just downright awesome.

Also, is that a baby Freddy? And who is that baby that Lucca finds?

That's a mini-Freddy that Lucca built (as she learns to make a bipedal walking robot, something that she mentioned would be incredibly difficult before she actually met Freddy).

As for the baby... You'll have to play Chrono Cross if you really want to find out.

First I told her she has to play Radical Dreamers. That game also holds the answer. ;)

I actually found Radical Dreamers pretty boring. :p

Hmm... I can see why you think so. But I love it. It really helps comprehend Chrono Cross's story better. And it's really short, so even if you don't like it, you don't waste much time on it :)

Your time is partyl short because of the leveling/money cheats, even then you probably only shaved a few hours at best but now you can replay the game and get the extra endings, most of the cast get a special ending associated with them or their time period. Also, you can get a different ending if you use the Epoch to travel to 1999 A.D. and you get a different ending if you try to beat the game without resurrecting Crono. If you kill Magus instead of letting him join you, then Frog reverts to his human form in all of the endings that involve the Epoch.

Glad you enjoyed the game but now you should do the new sidequests with the abnormal time portals so you can get the lowdown about Chrono Cross and the truth about Magus, Schala's fate, and Porre's uprising.

I would but my game freezes after the fireworks show :onoes:
