Seriously I need to stop thinking about FFVIII because the more i do, the dumber it gets.
So we all know how the Centra civilization, the 4000-year spanning superpeople that haven't been gone more than a century, were easily forgotten.
But I'm watching an LP of FFVIII with a guy running through Dollet during the Galbadia siege and it made me reflect on something.
You can go to Dollet after you get done in Timber. This is like, what, a day later? Tow days tops?

Everybody's just chillin', hangin' at the bar, playing Triple Triad with their stupid-ass Random rule.
YOU WERE INVADED!!!! YOUR COUNTRY WAS TAKEN OVER AND NEARLY DESTROYED!
Just...nobody remembers ANYTHING in this game, GFs or not. Its the only vaguely logical explanation for how illogical this world is.
It's hard to tell how much time passes during the game but you are right in that it seems everybody is remarkably chill after such an attack. They do have a ceasefire agreement and everything was kind of awkwardly settled though.

Well Dollet did seem like it was evacuated and since the Galbadian forces were only fighting to secure the Radio Tower, it might not have been much of a bloody conflict, especially since Galbadia withdrew their forces once it was agreed that Dollet would let them use the Radio Tower which almost no one uses.
The real question is why did Galbadia need to invade anyway? I mean the game makes it clear that radio signals stopped working after Laguan jettisoned Adel into orbit, so why couldn't Galbadia simply pay off Dollet for use of the tower unless this whole thing was sort of like the FF version of the Panama Canal where Dollet held out for too much money and Galbadia imply stormed in.

Because that wouldn't have been as awesome.

Random is like herpes, make sure your opponents are checked for Random before engaging in triple triad or you could catch and spread it too. Visit your nearest Queen of Cards if you show signs of Random

about the centra thing, the place was gone and forgotten about rather quickly, wasn't annihilated by a lunar cry?
also apparently Dollet used to be in charge of the whole continent but now it's split in three and no one mentions that?
Dollet probably is probably not the only place where NPC dialogue doesn't change.
that said FF game seem to be notorious for badly thought out back storys, after all in FF9 they claim that within a 1000 years of Gaia being born there was a thriving population on the planet?
The guy whose car got wrecked never forgot.

Abolishing the "Random" card rule in Dollet:
1. Go to the pub
2. Save on the second floor
3. Hard reset the game
4. Go to the pub owner's secret room and click on the magazine stack once
5. Challenge the pub owner and say "No" twice
6. Challenge him again, say "Yes", and then "Quit"
You're welcome :smug:

From memory the Galbadian army is affected by Edea- so things have changed. They are no longer ruled by that George Bush guy.
