So one of my things to do this year is watch a Star Wars marathon, but Netflix doesn't stream it, so I'm going to have to buy the whole thing, which is poopy poopy poopy :(

Anyways, discuss the Star Wars movies :monster:

Which was your favorite? Least favorite? Favorite characters?

Your favourite character should be Han Solo and if not you're doing it incorrectly. For the prequels... Watto, I guess? He has a big nose. Obscure Jedi shout out, Plo Koon for life.

I enjoy Star Wars. It has a pretty good storyline. I enjoyed the original trilogy moreso than I did the prequel trilogy that came out many years later. I am also waiting to see how the new movies from Abrams will fare as well.

As for favorite character? I did always like R2D2.

You can always try torrenting the movies, if you're unable to afford the movies.

Watching the movies was a big part of my childhood. I have so many fond memories of it.

I enjoy all of the movies, even though Hayden Christensen is a talentless twat.

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) A New Hope
3) Return of the Jedi
4) Revenge of the Sith
5) Attack of the Clones
6) The Phantom Menace

This is the correct order going from best to worst.

Han is definitely my favourite character. He is followed closely by Greedo because that weird little green man is the funniest fucking thing I have ever seen.

Sometimes I wonder if I actually like Star Wars or if I just like things about Star Wars. Like space.

P.S. I saw Jedi in theaters. /old

I prefer Star Trek, but Star Wars is very fun as well. It has a Lord of the Rings feel to it (to me) and is good for if you want to watch swashbuckling space heroes being badass. (Obviously Han Solo is the best character.)

Of course I love the original trilogy (Empire Strikes Back is my favorite film of all time). Not much needs to be said about that.

While I like elements of the prequel trilogy, I do feel that they mostly dropped the ball. A lot of what I feel are pointed out in the Pinkett reviews.

There reviews are great, but long reviews on this that are a few years old now at Red Letter Media. The voice/character of the reviewer may be off putting at first (it's supposed to be a creepy old man), but stick with it. The reviews are funny, informative, and even clever. It's easy to look at the prequel trilogy and yell "JAR JAR SUCKS! ANAKIN IS TOO WHINY!!" This guy really goes into all of the films at their core. Clear some time, and go watch them!

http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/star-wars-episode-iii-revenge-of-the-sith/

Not sure what to make of the Abrams movies, obviously. I am hoping they get the magic back, but I won't be surprised if they don't.

Phantom Menace > Attack of the Clones, Bubba! Also I totally agree with Sephex on Plinkett, there's some really incredible analysis on display there. Would love to see some Plinkett reviews of newer FF games! Maybe EoFF has a budding Plinkett out there somewhere.

Just last week I rewatched the original trilogy to see if my maturing tastes found it any more enjoyable than I did when I was a teenager and I still felt rather meh about it.

Then I watched the fan edit that mashed Prequel series into one 2 hour 40 minute film (http://www.nerdist.com/2014/05/the-star-wars-prequels-edited-into-a-single-movie/) and I felt that was rather meh as well.

I physically enjoy Episode I the most despite all it's glaring and annoying flaws but mentally I can tell that Episode V is the better one. IV is the only other one I can see as good but the rest just bores me.

Quigon is my favourite character. I really like reading extended universe novels involving him. He is what all the other Jedi should have strived to be.
The short novels about Obiwan and Anakin between Episode I and II are also enjoyable because you can see into Anakin's thoughts and somewhat sympathise with the hate he feels without having to physically watch his whininess.

I had seen hundreds of StarWars parodies and jokes on tv before I actually saw StarWars so throughout The Phantom Menace I kept wondering when Darth Maul would reveal that he was Obiwan Kenobi's Father.

StarWars Rouge Squadron and Podracing for N64 are amazing games as is KoTOR

Phantom Menace > Attack of the Clones, Bubba!

It's a pretty close call, mainly due to how bad Hayden Christensen's acting is in AOTC. But the Phantom menace, other than the pod race and Anakin's boss, has literally no redeeming features whatsoever.

I fucking love Plo Koon. I used to demonstrate my superior Star Wars knowledge by talking about him because he was in one of those PS1 Star Wars games and I totally won with him.

Han Solo is also hands down the best character in the movies.

The Phantom Menace is a rubbish film but it benefits greatly from Liam Neeson and that guy who plays Darth Maul. They really should have focused more on Qui Gon to give the movie a clearer main character, which is one of the most obvious flaws. But Attack of the Clones does have that kickass Jedi fight scene, so it wins (very slight) points there, and I really love the choreography of the fight scene between Obi Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.

Ewan McGregor was/is a long running man crush of mine esp. as Obi Wan Kenobi but that can't excuse what are easily subpar films. But fuck the haters I will enjoy them in a gross kind of way anyway.

If you're talking about Jedi Power Battles I loved what I was able to play of it but the platforming in Naboo Swamp was just too dificult for me. I played the Trade Federation ship a bunch of times over though, trying to maximize every point I could. Plo Koon is pretty amazing in that game but if I recall he is the only one without a "shroyuken" type move and theres one screen high up that cant be destroyed without it. That's 50 whole points!

Yep. One movie has Liam Neeson, one does not. What more needs to be said?

The awesomeness that is Liam Neeson is unfortunately cancelled out by the talking turd that is Jar Jar Binks. It is the equivalent of having a quality medium-rare fillet steak, perfectly seasoned... then pouring vomit on top of it. It renders said steak inedible. The fact that Binks is rarely in Attack of the Clones would automatically give it the edge over Phantom Menace. In fact, no matter how bad a film I've watched, from any genre, it would automatically get 4-out-of-ten purely because Jar Jar Binks isn't in it. I remember watching Gigli with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez and thought "My word, that film could not get any worse... oh wait, Binks wasn't there. Ahh, it wasn't too bad". Film makers, for the love of all that is holy, do not make me eat my steak while it is covered in vomit...please!!

So to sum up, The Phantom Menace is the worst Star Wars film because it doesn't allow me to eat Liam Neeson.

Na, not a fan of Star Wars. I adore Star Trek, so I've tried to get into Star Wars a few times since a lot of Trek fans I know love it just as much, but eh I don't see all the fuss.

The only part I really enjoy is that Lightsaber battle in The Phantom Menace at the end. That was badass.

I don't understand why people compare Star Trek and Star Wars, really. They're very different worlds with very different stories. The only reason they're similar at all is because ~space~. Star Wars is set in the past and it's basically magical fantasy with a space twist, and Star Trek is set in the future and it's all computers and socialism and what not.

Don't get me wrong, I love both! But it's like comparing Titanic and The Little Mermaid because they both have to do with the sea.

They compare Star Wars to Star Trek all the time because they both start w/ the word "Star". If Battleship Galactica was "Starship Galactica" they'd throw that in the mix, too. People are just that simple some(all the)times.

I liked the original trilogy, but haven't seen the prequels. I only know about those due to the Lego game.

I know pretty much everyone hates the prequels, but I actually really like them!

Denmark and I are meaning to do a watch-through of all six movies (CAN'T WAIT FOR VII) and he found something that said you should watch in this order: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi.

You see the original story, and then once you find out Vader is Luke's father, you go back and learn his story before heading into Return of the Jedi. I think it's a cool order of the films.

I have not watched Star Wars in some time (unsure if I've actually watched them) - to the point that all my knowledge of Star Wars comes from other sources (LEGO games, Family Guy spoofs, etc). I should really get them watched.

39 posts and no mention of Boba Fett? :colbert:

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were both terrible. I did not see Revenge of the Sith because I hated episodes I and II so much and did not care to subject myself to further Lucas atrocities. Although I consider the remastered versions almost equally as terrible. I can't smurfing focus when there's little digitally remastered creatures running around the rest of the original props and scenery! It breaks my immersion! plus all of the other millions of complaints about the remastered versions

A New Hope holds a place in my heart because it was the first I saw.

Han Solo is great, but Vader is one of the best villains of all time.

Never understood why people aren't so hot on the prequels. I really don't see what's wrong with them. I don't even particularly see what differences could actually be drawn between the two sets of films other than the newer ones looking a lot nicer? And the acting in the prequels...I don't really see it as good or bad. It's Star Wars-ey. Again I find that it fits together with the originals pretty well. I don't know. Maybe I'm silly!

I just rewatched the prequel trilogy and got annoyed whenever Anakin had a line in episode 1. It's a real shame that it was made in the late 90's considering how many amazing child actors there are today. I wish episode 1 was made 5 years ago with the guy who plays Geoffrey as Anakin and gril who plays Sansa as Amidala
