Let's say SE decided to do a complete re-imagining of FFI and update the game for a whole new generation. The basic plot and job class system would remain but be expanded and the game would be closer to more modern games than old school titles. What would you like to see if something like this happened?

>>> The same basic plot with a more convincing story and more character development..:luca:

It'd be interesting if they let you play as a party of six, one of each class. Give them all names/personalities/stories. Throughout the game little tidbits of their life would be revealed & how they came to be the Warriors of Light.

I just like variety in my Job class system.
The basically reimagined FF1 in the form of Bravely default.

I'm worried they would throw in random love triangles and blah but I'd love to see a lot of the original characters redone in brilliant HD. I'm a sucker for graphics and I think a reimagining could be great to look at. :D

Blasphemous as it may be, I wouldn't mind seeing the original content become the first half of a bigger game, where just when it appears you've killed Chaos, the four fiends pull him (and you) into the time-loop again, so you travel 2000 years back in time and have to go through that world wiping out the original four fiends and finally Chaos again in order to set things right. The coolest thing about the SNES-era FFs was the multiple worlds you got to explore - this would be right in line with that.

Actually that's a really interesting idea. I'm going to go with metaglorias answer.

I imagine they would simply make the story more expansive and give the four warriors more personality kind of how they did things with FFIII.

This is actually pretty spot on.
I'd like more customization of the characters and job classes as well as the deeper character development already mentioned. A gender selection between each class would be nice too. Hell, throw a couple of species in there that isn't human either like what Skyrim did.

This would be great. I know they won't set it in Invalice, but I'd hope they'd have Seeq.

Have the ability to switch party members in and out like in FFX.

A completely redone soundtrack. Same songs, just updated with the more symphonic sound that can be produced in 2014.

That would be interesting if pulled off correctly. They'd have to up the difficulty for sure, but it would be cool if there were six character slots so a player could potentially have a party with every class. Though it kind of messes with the premise of four light warriors at the same time.

Or two could be tag-alongs that can be introduced a little later not the game.

This is blasphemy!
The fact that you are all still alive leads me to assume that Dr. Unne either:
1. Is too disgusted to come anywhere near this thread and thus determine the perpetrators of this atrocity.
2. Has not seen it in the first place.
3. Is busy painstakingly plotting the most horrendous deaths for each of you individually and thus we have not yet fully seen the reaping of his vengeance yet.
I fear for your very souls.
