This is kind of one of those really cool features in this game that gets down played a lot. I enjoyed that my actions would affect my rank I just wish the game went a bit further with the whole idea of it but what we got was pretty unique as well. It certainly made the Dollet mission way cooler. Thoughts?

They could've did more with it. For the majority of the game you forget about it doesn't really matter as much when you beat the dollet mission. The only things that affect it from that point on are random battles and SeeD tests. Once you've taken all the Seed tests you don't have anything to worry about affecting your SeeD rank. I would have like to see more things that would affect it in the game.

Also why is the d capitalized?

Also why is the d capitalized?

I have no idea, like SOLDIER, I'm guessing it is suppose to be an acronym but one that is never explained. My guess is because it looks cool. :eep:

what I want to know is what determines how long it is between being paid and how to manipulate it.

I dont know about SeeD but SOLDIER and AVALANCHE are capitalized in the translation due to a quirk of how Japanese write english characters. From what I know they put english letters as capitols and in some cases a fair gap between each letter due to the size of kanji, hiragana and katakana.

what I want to know is what determines how long it is between being paid and how to manipulate it.

You're paid every 24575 steps, as measured by the Battle Report screen from the last time you were paid (not counting events where the computer controls you, Laguna sequences, or events before you become a SeeD).

The only real way to manipulate SeeD rank is by fighting. Each SeeD Rank needs 100 SeeD experience to get. Each time you're paid, you lose 10 SeeD experience. Each time you kill an enemy, you gain 1 SeeD experience (GF kills don't count). So you need to kill at least 10 enemies per payment to break even.

I don't like getting pay cuts. I get quite annoyed with that. Other than that, I like it :D

It never matters to me because the second it becomes available, I take enough tests to get rank A and leave it there for the rest of the game (taking another test if/when it drops). But it is a pretty interesting concept.

It's a cool little feature that I unfortunately forget all about until it pops up again and tells me my rank dropped.

Screw you too, rank!

You also lose SeeD rank if you take too long between story objectives early on apparently. I didn't care about it. Gil isn't ever really an issue for me.

I've always said there should have been more missions in the game similar to Dollet and Timber. They've got the perfect system in place. They could even have been implemented as sidequests. Complete missions in various towns throughout the game and get ranked at the end of it. I think Square missed a trick with that one.

Yes! Add this to the list of things I'd like to see in an HD remake.

Being SeeD operatives, which was the primary focus of the earlier parts of the game, ended up taking a backseat. "Yeah so we're SeeD now but we've got a lot of other shit going on, so..."

Methinks you didn't follow the plot of the game very well. What happens after you become SeeD has a direct impact on the purpose of SeeD to begin with. Plus the whole reason you go to Timber and really start the events of the main story rolling is because it's your first SeeD mission.
