...why I should watch the Star Wars films. I've seen the first one as a very young girl and used to enjoy pretending to pod race, but in one of the other movies that one scene where Han was trapped in carbonite or whatever scarred me for life.

So, give me your best argument for why I should revisit my childhood nightmare.

Do you mean Phantom Menace as the first one?

It might help you to face your fears. Also: Ewoks.

I dislike star wars but I enjoy how fantastical it can be at times. :)

You should cause PEW PEW and BOOOM and Frazoooooom (that's a lightsaber) and more PEW PEW

Watch it if only for its cultural relevance and to say you watched it. Plus if you like space and epics and stuff! :)

you should watch them to "get" about thirty dozen pop culture references in all sorts of other media

The one reason to watch the movies is so the games have a little more context

The obvious reason: If you watch Star Wars, you can say things like "Oh, FFXII reminds me so much of Star Wars sometimes".

Best argument I've seen so far, tbh.

Because regardless of their flaws (the original trilogy at least) they're an enjoyable experience with likeable characters, good action scenes and special effects for their time (if you can find a copy that hasn't been remastered to all hell), great music, and if you don't like them the critical part of your brain gets to pick them apart piece by piece and I guarantee you Return of the Jedi will give you so much fodder for that.

As far as the original trilogy goes, they are simply well made films that are enjoyable to watch.

We watched that video where A New Hope's dialogue was sorted alphabetically and that was thoroughly entertaining in a lame academic kind of way.

Life gets boring sometimes and when you have a spare couple of hours, you can watch a film to pass the time and entertain you. As far as entertainment goes, Star Wars are entertaining films that can be exciting, scary, sometimes funny, action packed, romantic, etc. Just generally a good watch if you want to.

Because its one of my challenges for this year and you should watch them as well and we can talk about them and how cheesy they are.

Really the movies aren't super great, its more that they're an experience to watch. Its hard to explain what I mean by that I guess, sorry.

Just because I haven't seen the movies doesn't mean I don't notice the pop culture references. I might not notice all of them, but I'm reasonably switched on :p

I bet you only notice like 3% of them.

Now watch the movies and prove that I'm wrong!
