The news die-hard FINAL FANTASY fans have been waiting for has finally landed. FINAL FANTASY Type-0 and its mobile successor, FINAL FANTASY Agito, have been confirmed for release outside of Japan! Originally released in Japan back in 2011, FINAL FANTASY Type-0 is a title that western fans have long been clamouring for. Even going so far as unofficially translating the game. SQUARE ENIX have finally bowed to demand, likely due to the surprise success of Bravely Default and the impressive sales of FINAL FANTASY X|X-2 HD Remaster.

FINAL FANTASY Type-0 takes place in a world known as Orience, which is divided into four nations known as the Dominion of Rubrum, the Milites Empire, the Lorican Alliance, and the Kingdom of Conorcdia. Each of the four nations is blessed with a crystal that grants them unique powers: Rubrum controls the power of magic, Milities controls the power of weapons, Lorica controls the power of the shield and Concorida controls the power of the Dragon. These four nations coexisted peacefully under the Pax Codex until Cid Aulstyne, High Commander of the Milites Empire, broke the peace treaty by staging an invasion of, and subsequently conquering, the nations of Lorica and Concordia. Rubrum stood tall in resistance due to its magical defenses. Hoping to force Rubrum into surrender, Cid stages an attack on Rubrum's Magic Academy, Peristylium Suzaku. It falls down to the students of Class Zero, to organise and execute Operation Apostyle, a desperate covert mission to defeat the Milites forces.

Type-0 will be releasing on both XBOX One and PlayStation 4.

FINAL FANTASY Agito is a game set in the same world of Orience, during a previous cycle of war - although this has not officially been described as a prequel. Players will create their own character who is a student of the Peristylium Suzaku and will join forces with characters. The story is a dynamic one that will develop over time, based on the choices all the players of the game make.

Agito will be releasing on iOS/Android devices and will feature a freemium model. Early reports from Japan suggest that the vast majority of progress in the game does not require monetary investment, with real money generally being used to pay for additional consumables etc. A break from SQUARE ENIX's previous freemium offerings.

More news is bound to be released as E3 progresses, so stay tuned!

This is AMAZING news. I was totally not expecting this. I'm glad it's for PS4 and not PS Vita, as I'm planning on getting a PS4 end of September and I have no plans to buy another Vita (used to have one). In some ways I'm looking forward to this more than FFXV just because I've played the Japanese demo and I know how good the game plays. It left me wanting more and when SE went silent on it I thought they would never localise it, but now we get the whole hog. Best decision they've made in a long time.

Sony accidentally announced the Vita version on the PlayStation Blog then corrected the story and confirmed it's only on PS4 (& Xbox One). I really hope they get a version over there as that's the platform I was most looking forward to playing it on.

Overall it's probably a good thing for both next-generation consoles and Square that the game is being put on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although I'm kind of disappointed it wasn't put on Vita as well. At least I can stick a Vita in my drawer and pull it out when it fancies me. I don't have room for either console even if I had the money to afford them. Unless they also release it for the PC I'll either be waiting to move and get a bigger room or playing the fanmade version.

Oh thank God, I was worried this little forum would never get a chance to reach it's true potential. :D

I'm sure that factored heavily in SE's decision to port the game over.

They should have done what they did with ffx and x2, but if I had to choose, I'd want a ps4 version the most.

There seems to be a huge response to this. I'm glad Square finally saw sense.

Yep I think the game will sell very well on next gen consoles, much more than what it would have sold on Vita. I guess that's why SE went for this PS4 / X1 HD version rather than Vita, which is fine by me (maybe not so fine for Vita owners though as some seem to be complaining)!

I am openly weeping that this is for PS4/X1. What a stupid move for an older game.

Not every game for a powerful console has to be powerful, but yeah I would have liked a Vita version too.

Well well, looks like I'm gonna get a PS4 sooner than I'd thought.

Any dates?

Not yet.

They've given no indication of how far along Type-0 HD is. Agito is probably just all localisation though.

I expect we'll hear more at TGS later this year. Based on SQEX's financial forecast for 2014-2015 I'd imagine Type-0 HD is probably looking at a Q4 2015 release for NA/EU and Q3 for JP. Those would be my guesses at least.

I mean... if you get it on PS4... and you own a Vita... then you basically have a Vita copy!

Remote play.

I'm going to buy it, but I'm still not getting a PS4 yet.

Two reasons:
I promised to buy it if it were ever released over here.
If I play a pirated copy of something, it's because the original is unavailable, and if that changes, I buy it.

I'll just be playing the translation on my PSP and waiting for Persona 5 to make me buy a PS4.
