Pie can be both sweet an savoury, which makes it the more versatile food stuff. But, a good bit of cake can't be beaten... hmmm....

Cake has the most potential (as in the best cake will beat the best pie), but pie is on average better. For many ordinary cakes, such as the standard birthday cake (bleh), I refer you to this graph (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D_Z-D2tzi14/S56F3UaTH6I/AAAAAAAACNg/gyzr16ptfcQ/s1600-h/pieveruscake2.png) (via HaaH (http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/03/pie-verus-cake-scientific-approach.html)).

& don't get me wrong, I loves me some cake. But Pie is always better.
You know which desert has it's own number? Pi. You know which desert has it's own day? Pi Day. Rhymes w/ Friday. You know how to get more people to come to your event? Give them cake & milk? NO! PUNCH & PIE!!!!!

I can't choose between either one. My blackberry pie is as good as my chocolate cake. :(
(The cake's around 50% hot, partially melted icing though so there's that.)

Well, I mean, NONE OF THEM thanks to Shorty.
But...
...pie.
My favorite pie is cheesecake (blueberry is bestberry).
My favorite cake is Boston Creme pie.
EXPLAIN HOW THAT MAKES SENSE

I like em both about evenly! Maybe pies a bit moreso than cake! But sometimes I love cake moreso than pie! I can't really decide.

IDK Loco if Cheesecake is even considered a pie. It seems to be an entity of it's own.

Well, you make cheesecakes in pie crust, with many of the same ingredients you would make a pie with... I mean, it's just like Key Lime pie, but with cream cheese instead of lime junk.
ALSO KEY LIME PIE IS THE SECOND BEST PIE. I get really excited about pie.
It would be unAustralian to say anything other than pie.
So I chose cake. No, I jest, I definitely said pie.

I have to think about that.
Anyway, you don't have to worry about shorty, eat all the sugar you want. She's not here to chastise you for it anyway.

I am glad I live in a world where I don't have to make this choice.
It's like choosing between beer and whiskey.

I think a cake has specific requirements to be a cake but a pie can be anything baked into a pie pastry so you could have a cake pie. I choose pie
Cake! One of my friends makes the most delicious cakes and she always makes me one for my birthday! Mmmmmm. :jess:
I know it's boring, but I freaking love a Victoria Sponge. Also, red velvet is yummy!
I am partial to a slice of pecan pie, though.

COMMENCE CHASTISING THIS THREAD MAKES ME SO ANGRY AAAAAAUGH
For reals, though. All weekend I've just wanted to simultaneously shovel carrot cake and red velvet cake into my gaping maw and I can't.

Pie wins, because pie can have meat in it and meat pies are just the best thing ever. Especially a good potato-top pie. Mmmmm. And then there are so many other options which, with the right person and the right ingredients, have far more potential than any cake. If you guys go to a great bakery somewhere in NZ or Aus you'll probably find some damned incredible pies there. The UK has alright ones when it comes to variety but they lack the extreme quality of a Southern Hemisphere meat'n'pastry.
Loco, if you're making your cheesecake in a pie pastry, you're doing it wrong. Biscuit base or nothin'.

During a winter day pie takes the cake. A hot crisp pie goes down well with tea. Also pies are more diverse, but umtilatemyl I prefer having cakes in particular Carvel or home made cakes.
cracker base oh my god I could understand cookie base but crackers are an entirely different thing oh my god

Are you folks aware that graham crackers and digestive biscuits are almost the same thing? From the incredibly reliable Wikipedia:
"In recipes calling for digestive biscuits, it is common to substitute graham crackers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_cracker) in the United States. According to Charles Panati, the original graham cracker is called a "digestive biscuit" in Britain.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuit#cite_note-20) However, graham crackers are typically a little dryer and more brittle."

One cannot simply choose between cake and pie. Gimme both! The local pub's renowned cumberland pie, followed by some cheesecake. That'll do nicely :3
I get to live with inverted seasons and fries and every other bloody thing so I demand that at the very least we get biscuits correct. :ffviscorn:

In general, pie. I do like myself some like angel food cake.
I can't stand frosting though, so it has to have no frosting or glaze on it for me to eat the cake.
Not a huge fan of fruit, but I love desert pies and pecan pie.
