This will be a Let's Play but with much more input from everyone! You will help me decide who will have which jobs, who to use in battle, which abilities to set, and so on! Hopefully I can get some help with this :jess:

*Note: I have the all job classes + abilities unlocked, so as soon as I introduce the characters, you can give me which job(s) they should have and which abilities.

To avoid this taking forever, there won't be votes, but I'll still go with what seems to be the most popular option by the time I play again.

Let's get started :jess:

We start out with a narrative

5747257473

Am I the only one who has never had summer homework?

57474

I decide to stick with the default character name

57475

This is something I get to fill out!

57476

Who am I kidding

57477

I would like that!

57478

That's the only one I have a problem with

So we see our young hero getting ready to leave for summer vacation, but

5747957480

Turns out Luso has a problem with tardiness, so the teacher tells him to go clean up the library.

The teacher/librarian man who should be there isn't there, but Luso finds a book!

57481

He's very well mannered

57482

Then he spots a line asking for a name, so he puts his own in

Which leads to this:

57483

I've never had any of my books do this :(

And then he falls down a hole

Meanwhile...

57484

This trio here seems ready to take on this giant chicken when who should crash the part?

57485

Nope, that doesn't look like Mr. Randall at all :|

57486

How odd of him to offer some strange kid to join his clan. He tells Luso that if he joins the clan he can get injured, but not killed. Luso agrees and the mystery fellow summons a judge for Luso to swear an oath to

57487

And he gets some... interesting new clothes

57488

They have the introductions and then the battle begins!

57489

No ranged weapons is not really a problem :greenie:

So we win the tutorial fight and Luso realizes something

57490

Cid wants to know more about what's going on, but Luso is hungry, so they head to the tavern

Tavern food is the best food

57491

Yep.

57492

Cid agrees to help Luso find his way home, but for now, Luso wants to know if the clan has a name

57493

First order of business

Decide a name for the clan please :jess:

Why not clan Centurio, as an homage to FFXII?

Brilliant plan!

Also, here is a super neat image for you to utilize in your adventures:

http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090409190253/finalfantasy/images/7/7d/FFTA2_Job_List.png

And this nifty wikia list of FFTA2 Jobs (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_Tactics_A2:_Grimoire_of_the_Rift_Jobs?file=FFTA2_Job_List.png) and their relevant statistics! Also, that's where I just hijacked the image above from.

Why not clan Centurio, as an homage to FFXII?

Because FFXII's clan is already in this game, as you find out way later.

Pumpkin

Well I am going by popular vote and clan Centurio was the only one suggested, so that it is!

Luso introduces himself to his new Clan!

57604

Afterwards, Luso asks Cid if fighting monsters is all Clans do. Cid responds that its mostly that but there is also some other stuff

57605

But of course before then we need a welcoming party!

57606

Now I need you to decide the jobs for each member!

Each can have 1 or 2 jobs. Feel free to suggest for multiple characters!

5761357614

Good to know~

576155761657617

I'll let you guys pick the optional ones when they become available and who to dispatch on dispatch missions

57618

This means that the problem won't actually be a problem until we pay for it

57619

Alrighty let's take a look at our first mission!

5762057621

I'll also let you guys decide who will be used in battle!

57622

Luso goes running off without preparing and Cid thinks he's hopeless

Task: Choose job classes and who will be used in the upcoming battle!

Dat Matt

Personally, using your party I would go for this set up.

Luso - Paldin / Fighter
Ransem - White Mage / Sage
Koteni - Elementalist / Red Mage
Rafgold - Defender / Gladiator
Hurst - Archer / Hunter
Ian - Fusilier / Flintlock

I would remove the Moogle for another Viera and the Nu Mo for another Bangaa, but that's just me. I hate don't really like either of those races.

Pumpkin
06-23-2014, 07:03 PM
That's just the default party they gave me so I'll stick with it~

Those are some good job suggestions thank you :jess:

Dat Matt
06-23-2014, 07:22 PM
I remember when I initially started playing the game, I changed the Archer Human into a White Mage and set him down that route. Not too long after I found a white mage in my travels and they were so much better than the guy I leveled up from like lvl3 - lvl7. I basically chose classes that were similar enough to the Characters starting class, as they tend to have an stat advantage in those roles.

I also opted against suggesting

Luso - White Mage
Ransem - White Mage
Koteni - White Mage
Rafgold - Bishop
Hurst - White Mage
Ian - Time Mage

I'm nice like that.

Pumpkin
06-23-2014, 07:27 PM
You do seem like a White Mage fan xD

Dat Matt
06-23-2014, 07:45 PM
I love white mages. Super useful as a side job.

Skyblade
06-23-2014, 07:57 PM
Stats in this game are based on the job you have when you gain a level. Each job has its own growth amounts, and its own base starter stats. So if you start as an Archer and gain a few levels as an Archer, you're going to get a lot of Archer stats. So when you switch to White Mage, you won't have nearly as high magic as someone who started White Mage and leveled as it.

That said, if you pick the right jobs to level (and get some luck, as each job actually has a growth "range" of about 3 points per stat), you can actually max several stats with enough persistence. I don't recommend it unless you are as insane as I am.

So, for stats, you need to determine if you want to spread stats out among several jobs for well rounded characters, or focus on specific jobs to optimize them.

Pumpkin
06-23-2014, 08:32 PM
I was personally thinking 1 to 2 jobs each and maxing those out as opposed to spreading them around. Just sticking to those jobs

Skyblade
06-23-2014, 09:10 PM
Well, certain jobs are also just better than others for stats. Paladin is ideal for boosting a Hume's defense. Paravir (in addition to being just frelling awesome) has the highest Hume Strength growth, etcetera. So even if you want to make an ideal Archer, raising as a Paravir can be a huge help, etcetera. It can get really, really complicated if you want to push stats to their tops.

I actually created charts to calculate exactly how many levels I would need to get in each job to balance stats as perfectly as possible for my characters for my perfect save file.

Pumpkin
06-26-2014, 06:28 PM
Okay so I took Mr. Shauna's suggestions, and here is what our party looks like!

576785767957680576815768257683

Time to head to the mission~

5768457685

Luso likes the chocobos, which is nice to see. Soon they hear a howl

5768657687

The chocobos obey and go off screen

57688

Fire is forbidden this fight. Luso asks about the laws

57689

Luso finds them slightly annoying, as do I, but Cid explains that they bring certain benefits to the fight, such as a clan privilege, being able to revive your allies, etc

576905769157692

I choose Bonus EXP for this fight and I use everyone but our viera. I was deciding between leaving the sage and the illusionist out, because the both have fire magicks, but the viera was at a higher level, so that decided it!

The battle went pretty easily and here are the results!

57693

Pumpkin
06-26-2014, 06:34 PM
Alright the wolves leave and Cid and Luso discuss finding his home

5769457695

He says he wishes he had paid more attention to it

5769657697

They then notice a journal on Luso's person, and both are confused by it

57698

Ye...................no?

5769957700

Oh my :erm:

57701

A convenient excuse

So they decide this must be linked the the magic book that sent him here and want to learn more about it

57702

He decides a wizard would, despite knowing nothing about this world. We head back to the pub

5770357704

Apparently bandits are blocking the road and asking for money and such

5770557706

I like how he just jumps in to things without much thought :|

So Cid decides he's going to ditch me to study my journal or something

5770757708

Uh huh

So now I can choose to do this optional quest:

57709

Or I can skip straight to the story quest:

57710

You guys decide :monster:

Skyblade

You want as much free stuff as possible. Sidequest it up!

I will do all of the sidequests I can!

Let's do some now, actually!

http://i.imgur.com/Kvbv4fA.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/K0QfAM0.png

Hmm all of my characters have reaction abilities and I don't care enough to take them off. Oh well!

http://i.imgur.com/sGF3RYN.png

Right...

http://i.imgur.com/x5exFRk.png

HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW THIS

http://i.imgur.com/UtN6nMC.png

Umm, sorry.

http://i.imgur.com/OsEn60W.png

Yes, really

So like rational adults, they decide its time to fight! Sure enough, I get penalized

http://i.imgur.com/RAFcjaa.png

Something of note that happens in battle:

http://i.imgur.com/NJASFVK.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/tMrZQtZ.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/W9ctK98.png

So our Moogle pall uses Fury!

http://i.imgur.com/eHFIX2j.png

The battle goes on for a while and I accidentally use a suicide attack with my bangaa (oops :shobon:) and eventually I win

http://i.imgur.com/DPJ1NmO.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/YIt5Acw.png

They allow me to use the Green Mage job and also offer for me to meet with them and chant and stuff every month! Luso declines

http://i.imgur.com/GYtGjB9.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/XzwhWml.png

Now on with the story mission!

http://i.imgur.com/pmws1Pm.png

http://i.imgur.com/8dQwQha.png

No

http://i.imgur.com/mS158YD.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/dMlVagK.png

I had something else in mind :|

http://i.imgur.com/yEEEiYu.png

This of course leads to a battle since we insulted their bandit pride also by implying we'd never heard of them

http://i.imgur.com/CZhaG7S.png

In this fight I use everyone but the Nu Mou

http://i.imgur.com/CrNdmvJ.png

The battle goes on for a little while before I am finally victorious!

http://i.imgur.com/LMimmjM.png

Yaaay we have an MVP :jess:

http://i.imgur.com/9R1mj2L.png

Alrighty!

http://i.imgur.com/ln11ftm.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/ejfUI0K.png

They then have a bit of a spat when Luso talks about touristy things and Cid thinks he isn't taking things seriously

http://i.imgur.com/9Ps9hWW.png

Some mission results there.

Also, need more help from you. Decide which skill to improve first :monster:

http://i.imgur.com/E9HKzEL.png

In the meantime, I'm going to do 2 more side missions!

http://i.imgur.com/akl4XFC.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/hdfkGXw.png

First one!

http://i.imgur.com/vRWF5jG.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/etJapqN.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/AAUCwsE.png

All of that is pretty straightforward

http://i.imgur.com/z1hsVRo.png

Of course there are monsters just hanging out everywhere

http://i.imgur.com/K3bHBJh.png

By going to the conveniently shiny squares!

I find a few things that aren't the thing I'm looking for...

http://i.imgur.com/1YXBejL.png

Ew :-/

But finally:

http://i.imgur.com/otgsMEj.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/DVL2QAY.png

I like how the randoms actually talk in this game :jess:

http://i.imgur.com/YvA77Dr.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/Bvjwti8.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/908ar7S.png

And I got a cactus fruit for another mission later!

Next mission:

http://i.imgur.com/RE9TTNR.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/qYOyzfb.png

No problem :jess:

http://i.imgur.com/Z1szViY.png

Well that makes healing a little more of a pain in the butt :|

Thankfully, my Viera can heal one square at a time

http://i.imgur.com/l1peqgx.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/vtFEtEm.png

Well they're being rude

http://i.imgur.com/xAAujub.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/Qw7WLVp.png

And we of course decide to jump in and help him!

After a long enough battle, I finally manage to win!

http://i.imgur.com/9Q8uKye.png

EXCUSE ME :nonono:

http://i.imgur.com/5hyvDTo.png

Uh huh :colbert:

He does unlock the dragoon class though! Which would be super cool if I didn't use a class unlocking cheat :greenie:

http://i.imgur.com/o2QbQSa.png

Yaay MVP :jess: I always like it when there's an MVP. It's like rewarding them for their good work!

http://i.imgur.com/YvI7Uze.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/ANMbhhQ.png

And that's all I have for now!

Remember to pick the clan skill :monster:

Thanks for reading :jess:

Most Clan Trial unlock a new Clan Skill in addition to the stat boosts. They can be repeated indefinitely.

The points stack constantly, and are used to unlock missions, so don't be afraid to do them all if you haven't unlocked all skills or maxed the clan stats.

Also, the laws can be a bit weird. Knockback, for example, will ruin you if you get a crit.

"Jump" in to help the Dragoon. Heh.

I used a cheat code so I could get my posts up sooner without having to do extra grinding and stuff :monster:

She's bending certain circumstances. It also doesn't start you with all jobs unlocked or all abilities learned.

Personally, I'm fine with it. This is all for fun anyway.

Yeah I'm mostly trying to show the story but I'm terrible at tactics games games so they take me a good amount of time to get through. Plus I have a job now, so when I do get a chance to play, this way I can breeze through it more easily and get the updates up

Ohhh, I didn't know you could do that. Reminds me of back in the late 80's and early 90's when cheat codes in games were normal. The challenge was finding a magazine that would have them. x)

Oh, they're not built in codes. Most emulators come with Action Replay features built in, though, so since she's emulating the game, she can cheat.

I kind of wish more games had them built in too. Challenge is great, but sometimes you just want to have fun.

Some more sidequests~

This one was pretty easy. No fight or anything.

http://i.imgur.com/e9HHqHT.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/Nf8NyTS.png

Very straightforward person

Luso asks if he really wants to give up the book or if he would rather just try and find a cactus fruit on his own

http://i.imgur.com/lFUVDYX.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/5Nj0xR5.png

Aww that's sad :(

But on the brightside, doing that allowed the boys life to be saved, yay :D

http://i.imgur.com/YJestOe.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/C98W0iQ.png

Now I will be killing bunnies for a dish

http://i.imgur.com/GRSPjSV.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/5CzjcTT.png

How convenient that they're weak against fire :colbert:

http://i.imgur.com/JekQD3l.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/owXedWE.png

THIS MATH IS BEYOND ME

http://i.imgur.com/rx2xc6h.png

Sure enough, the fight is won and the man gets his bunnies

http://i.imgur.com/OYKDZnV.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/abEdDGE.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/AjQQmpJ.png

Now that that's done, we get to hit the road to Camoa!

http://i.imgur.com/eCJhpSD.png

http://i.imgur.com/xNNZUtz.png

Luso is impressed

http://i.imgur.com/cC71oK2.png

Cid tells me of someone he knows who might have information

http://i.imgur.com/JJfMPQm.png

This really sketchy fellow

http://i.imgur.com/i50cSCF.png

Cid wants to know if he knows where we can find a wizard

http://i.imgur.com/DMN2UcV.png

The Seeq makes some comments that are useless so we start to leave when he calls us back saying he might know someone

http://i.imgur.com/tMBluD2.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/NOpWGKP.png

Cid is suspicious and Luso goes all out thinking this is regular tomato picking when I think its fairly obvious these are going to be killer tomatoes

But before we get to that, sidequest time!

http://i.imgur.com/bbgP2eB.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/iZ76jXv.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/hKFLdS5.png

I get to find a beetle in a haystack!

http://i.imgur.com/4REV6Vq.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/JFvUZDC.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/S2b4TuS.png

This is actually a pretty easy mission and it doesn't take too long. However, the scarab beetle was of course like the second to last shiny I searched :/

http://i.imgur.com/aj5z0D0.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/7SfTwnH.png

And that's all for now :monster:

Next time its us VS killer tomatoes!

Beetle hunting could be far worse. Several people in Ivalice keep monsters as pets. At least you didn't have to try to catch one of the beetle-like Antlion enemies (which I figured I would have to when I first started that mission).

They seem to really hate the use of magic in the early game. I noticed the 99,999,999 gil on an early post so I assumed there was som hijinks going on here,

How are you enjoying the team so far? Not wanting to switch all your characters out for Viera and humes yet?
