Didn't see a thread about this so thought I'd start one up.

What do you think of this? I've always loved Capcom, though in recent years they've kind of become a pretty shitty company.

I'd love to see Nintendo pick up some of their IPs, but there are a few that I think would benefit from other developers.

Maybe nothing happens and things continue on as they are, but on the off-chance other companies swoop in to snap up some IPs or one company just ends up buying Capcom outright... Which series do you think would benefit from this? Is there a particular company you'd love to see developing a new entry in one of Capcoms many franchises?

Nintendo needs to buy up either the company as a whole, or just Breath of Fire and Megaman.

Especially breath of Fire, since they work closely with Camelot, who have expressed interest in the past of making a new Breath of Fire game.

Prior to the mobile one being announced. And really that should just not happen.

Capcom has apparently confirmed that this is not true.

If it is true, EoFF should club together and put in a bid.

Reddit Discussion as promised (http://www.reddit.com/r/nintendo/comments/28dreh/capcom_is_not_officially_for_sale/)

Took about a day for people to look into the story behind this, and it apparently has changed formats to prevent people from making a hostile takevoer of the company (i.e. one party buying up majority shares in order to influence stake in the company). This actually makes it harder to buy the company as they cannot just invest in it, they would need to gain the favour of key investors.

Either that or I'm talking bulltrout because legal documents are boring and I couldn't be bothered reading it. I just took a TL;DR from the OP here who gave a quick description :P

I don't know how true it is, I'm more interested in the idea of other companies picking up Capcom franchises, to be honest. Legal mumbo-jumbo is not my strong point.

Maybe we should turn this thread into a general "If you could take an existing franchise and have it made by a completely different company, what would you like to see" kind of thread.

I would've loved to see Nintendo snatch up Capcom, though. I think they'd end up treating a lot of franchises a lot better (Megaman, BoF, etc).

I can't think of anything worse than the idea of any of their franchises becoming console exclusives, let alone the possibility of the company being bought by a console maker.

Whoever owns Mortal Kombat should get Street Fighter & Final Fight.

Honestly, even if a company like Nintendo or Sony bought up stock from them, it wouldn't be enough to dictate policy for Capcom unless they got a majority share. I mean Sony owned a bunch of Square-Enix's stick from the merger and it didn't stop Squenix from making or releasing games on other consoles.

In term of who should own Capcom's franchises in case of meltdown. I think Mega Man, Power Stone, and Ghouls and Goblins should go to Nintendo, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Resident Evil should go to Sony, and I'm not sure where to put Breath of Fire. I don't really like Camelot Studios and Monolith Soft is a bad match for the franchise. Sony for me at least doesn't seem to have a strong RPG team like the old days when they were closer to groups like Media Vision. Squenix and Sega both have a really nasty habit of sitting on top of IPs they own. I still haven't quite forgiven Namco Bandai for Xenosaga screw ups and Level 5 tends to be hit or miss with their titles. I guess Nintendo just so it would actually see the light of day. Devil May Cry would go to Platinum Studios but only after they hired Hideaki Itsuno on board.

So is the news true?

I just robbed a bank just so I can revive the company and my megaman X series.

What about Megaman Legends or Megaman Battle Network?

Not really into that. Mainly because I kinda enjoy the story line for the X series and Zero is bad ass.

Oh ya, breath of fire series. That one too. :kaoclove:

Hey Wolf Canoe, you didn't mention Capcom's best franchise aka Dead Rising. Can I have it pretty please? :)
