View Full Version : [FFX] Wakka
I know a ton of people dislike this guy but frankly I've got to give props to someone who just wants to hurl Blitzballs at Sin.
What is your opinion of this fellow?

I don't like or dislike him. He's just kinda... there
While I don't think his character progression is as good as other people do/could've been (just someone who was that fanatically religious wouldn't give it up, even if it was staring him in the face), I actually don't hate him. I think he's kind of fun for comic relief, and I LOVE the way he and Tidus bro out. When Tidus and Wakka start hanging out they're like little boys, and it's hilarious.

I love Wakka. He's probably my favorite character in X.

It's always between Wakka and Tidus for me, depending on who needs championing the most. They're both far better characters than people give them credit for. Re: Jinx's comments, Wakka is by far the last person to let go of Yevon; I think it happens properly around Grand Maester Mika revealing himself as unsent. Everybody else happily jumps aboard the fuck Yevon train at Yunalesca (or before) so I reckon the peer pressure is high.
But yes I love Wakka and I love that he's a little Islander influence. Don't see that very often, ya?

I like him. His Overdrive is super useful and I like that he has such big balls.

I think Wakka should have a beard.

Her name is Lulu.
JUST KIDDING!
I think I'm a little bothered by Wakka's fanaticism, ya. Even Yuna, who is A SUMMONER doesn't seem like the type to strap dynamite on herself for the love of Yevon, but Wakka does.
Playability-wise, Wakka is smurfing awesome. His status attacks are extremely valuable in this game & I do like the backstory re: him & his bro Chappu, ya.
Praise Yevon.

Wakka is my bro! I think he's got some of the best character development and he's quite an original party member.

I love Wakka, he's a big goofball. I also love his gravity defying ginger quiff.

He uses a lot of product for someone who lives on a tropical island.

I'm pretty sure Maechen mentions he uses Flan mucus to maintain it

I think if you were lost and didn't know what to do Wakka would be the one to look after you and be there for you :greenie:

I got annoyed with him for clinging to Yevon so much, but Jiro has a good reason in another thread of his on why that is. I think he's a deeper character than most people give him credit for. Plus, he's the voice of Bender, man! And a truck load of other awesome characters!

Aside from being a big friendly fella, his hatred for the Al Bhed and his devotion to Yevon means he's kind of representative of most Yevonites. I think having that sort of character in the party was important for the plot and aided in the players understanding of Spira, particularly as Yevon's true colours start to show.
In battle, he's awesome. Strength just about on par with Auron, best Accuracy, status effects and most damaging Overdrive.
One thing that's always bothered me about Wakka is the fact that he uses a Blitzball in battle.
I mean, he's on a team that hasn't won for 23 years right? I know he wasn't part of the team the whole time and probably only 'turned pro' a few years before Tidus washed ashore, but nonetheless... Statistically, he was one of the worst Blitzers in Spira when we first meet him. So why the Blitzball? If anything, Tidus and Wakka should swap weapons. Wakka had plenty of time to learn how to use Brotherhood since Chappu left it behind. Presumably there's not much else to do in Besaid. And Tidus is the superstar right? Why just have Wakka throwing the ball at fiends when Tidus could've been Jecht Shotting it every turn?

He uses flan. For his hair.
He has a wicked hot wife.
And he can throw a spiked ball at very long range and then catches it without hurting himself.
That's cool.
So cool that Shakira made a song about him.
I liked him okay. Never really felt strongly about him either way and I don't hate characters nearly as much as other people do for whatever reason. Never found him annoying either.

That's a good point. Not sure why they did it that way.

He's a naive doofus that can't any situation, but he takes everything on the chin and just rolls with it. He's pretty okay I guess.

I hated the fact that he was really just religion fanatic at least in the
beginning beginning
I am seriously against any form of fanatic religion in this game.
