I'm a hard ass G-angsta. tbh it never really occurred to me that it could be soft. Though I guess this is analogous to when the creator of the GIF format claimed that GIF is pronounced with a soft g, and everyone was just like "nah bro. this isn't yours anymore. we're overruling you here."

I've always pronounced it with a Hard G because it always made me think of Gil from The Simpsons.

Hard. I never even considered that it could be soft, which is weird since I always pronounced .gif the way the creator pronounces it (i.e., with a soft G). I guess since Gil is an actual name with an actual pronunciation I always assumed it was meant to be a hard G.
