View Full Version : FFII: Difficult, or just difficult to learn?
Some people have said that they consider this to be a difficult game. Do you find it difficult, or is the leveling system just awkward (and thus "difficult") to learn?
Personally I didn't find it to be a terribly difficult game myself!

The main issue for FFII is its difficult if you don't train much, which is made worse if you don't know how to train efficiently by knowing monster ranks or knowing how each stat is boosted.
If you know how to boost each stat and do it in an efficient manner (like equipping light armor only and shields to boost agility), both training and the game in general become rather easy.

Not difficult, just tedious to get your characters in a position where they don't fall in battle easily, like most older RPGs.

Not difficult, but tedious, sure.

I agree with pretty much everything said in the above posts. The system isn't hard to learn, or to use, but not much fun to work with either.

It's not hard. Just so boring.
I suppose I am in the minority but I didn't think this game was boring at all! :) It's one of my faves!
Only when I wandered off somewhere I wasn't supposed to go because the enemies were super ultra mega strong. This game really isn't nice to my poor sense of direction.

Well, to me tedious and boring are two different things at times. I only had one decently long stretch of tedious level building. After that, playing the game naturally allowed me to coast through the rest of it without feeling under powered, but still feeling a decent challenge.
I am less tolerant of grinding as I age, yet at the same time I put up with it better than I used to. Insert analogy about getting older and life lessons here.

Pretty much this, the leveling starts off fun but OCD can make it a nightmare. The issue is that I find having a powerful party ends up making the bad dungeon design more apparent.

I remember one of the ways I would raise my stats was repeatedly damaging my own characters so they could "level up" quicker. If you go in from the start knowing how the mechanics work you'll be better off in the long run.
I like the concept of the stat raising system. The more you're hit, the more HP you earn etc. I just think the execution didn't turn out as expected.

The grinding is only a pain at the very start when everyone is ridiculously weak. Also Maria is in the back row so the enemies never target here so how the hell am I supposed to level up her HP? You gotta put her ass in the front row or kill off Firion and Guy and that's kinda dumb.
