Has anyone been following news of "The Last of Us" movie currently in pre-production? I know they got Sam Rami to be the producer of it, and the game's director, Neil Druckman, is writing the screenplay. Hugh Jackman and some other guy whose name I can't remember are the favorites for the role of Joel. I know some fans just want Troy Baker to play the part and have him made up to look older. Maisie Williams had talked with them about possibly playing the role of Ellie, but nothing has been signed. Naughty Dog gets the final say on casting and directing.

Apparently Druckman was writing a different ending from the game's ending in the script, but Sam Rami was like, "Whoa, dude, don't do that." So I'm assuming the ending will be the same.

The whole movie.

Hugh Jackman as Joel would be killer. He already was convincing as loving father in Prisoners which is pretty much the same kind of story anyway: Do everything to save your child and if it were you would you even go so far to hurt someone who is probably not even to blame just because you think but don't know they have something to do with it?

I would rather want Chloe Moretz as Ellie. Ellen Page would suit the best but with 27 she would not really convince as a teenager except they make Ellie a bit older.

Oh. I think they mean to follow the game pretty closely, so yes.

I was thinking Chloe could do good since she sounds like her, I have a hard time imagining her with brown hair, though. I think Ellen didn't like them using her "likeness" for Ellie so I doubt she'd do it even if she could.

Chloe Moretz with brown hair:

Ah Sam Rami, the guy who seems to be originally onboard with a lot of video game to movie adaptations and then bails.

That's disheartening. Which projects has he bailed on in the past?

Maisie Williams would be good for the role. We've seen that she's quite capable of playing a vulnerable looking little girl that matures into badassery.

This project is odd to me, because I feel Last of Us was already the movie version of Last of Us.

I find Williams a more believable actor than Moretz but that might just be because I've only seen Moretz in less believable roles or I just dont like her voice.

Isn't the game basically a movie already? Why not just edit it all to make a 2 hr movie. Uncharted style.

Yeah it seems too easy to make this into a movie. I have a feeling this will be the first good one, but I wish it was something more surprising. I love to be proven wrong.

Ellen Page and that dude from Warrior. Not Tom Hardy, the other dude.

I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't really see the Ellen Page/Ellie likeness.

Yeah, it was pretty much a game in movie format. This feels like more of a cash-in than anything and that has me worried. Though I'm perfectly all right with Williams playing Ellie.

Only in cover pictures and such. In the game she doesn't really look like her.

This whole explosion of new video game movies in production, mostly backed by Sony, is strange, and worrisome.

From the moment I heard that a film version of The Last of Us was in production, it just sounded so pointless to me. The game was already so cinematic, a movie based on such a game seems like a pretty moot endeavor, even more so when, from the sound of it, they don't want to change anything about the plot.

This is all coming from someone who's a pretty big fan of the game, by the way. Nothing about this excites me.

Expanding the story to people who wouldn't otherwise have played the game is probably their endevour, not necessarily creating something that the existing fanbase thinks complements the game. It seems moot to a lot of us because we have played the game, but there's a lot of people out there who haven't.

Think about it like Hollywood remakes of foreign film. Plenty of people in whichever market the film had originated from may have loved it, and though the Hollywood version may not add anything new to it other than some more familiar faces and English, it can still be awesome. Like The Departed.

I suppose if you're going to adapt any game it may as well be the one already working under a movie format. At most they'd just have to cut some stuff to fit the run time.
