Cool hair, too. Not enough facial hair for me, however.

Could someone explain the nature of his appearance to a newbie who has never played this game? Is he as special as he is in later installments? :)

He's the owner of the world's only airship until the empire finishes their dreadnought. He helps the rebels out a few times before getting killed in an imperial attack, on his deathbed he gives the party the airship.
