Both have been on way too long, but which do you prefer?

I'll probably be in the minority here and say Family Guy

The Simpsons. Though I don't watch it anymore now and though I probably came to like Futurama a lot more, it was a massive part of my childhood. I still have a bunch of old episodes recorded on VCR somewhere.

I once made a very funny Simpsons quote to someone and they told me they dont watch tv or movies. I had very little to speak to them about afterwards

The Simpsons was great back in the early days. However, I'm not saying that it's bad now. The last couple years were pretty awful though. Family Guy isn't much better.

We weren't allowed to watch The Simpsons when we were kids and consequently, I didn't really develop and interest and I've seen very little of it. So against the majority, I have to default to Family Guy.

Simpsons, like a lot people I grew up with them. It's a year younger than me. And the blame rests solely on them for my love of the saxamaphone.

No contest. The Simpsons, without which there would be NO Family Guy. Or Futurama. Or South Park Or Archer. Or.....

For a stretch of about 7 years (Seasons 3-10) The Simpsons were just about the perfect TV show mixing beyond sharp satire with wonderful voice acting and just enough heart.

Take care all.

I gotta go with Simpsons, it was here first.

Also:

And then came the greatest thrill of my life...

"Hello, Homer, I'm George Harrison."

"Oh my God. Oh my God. Where did you get that brownie?!"

"Over there, there's a big pile of them."

"OH MY GOD!"

HE'S, A, FAMILYYYYY , GUUUUUYYYY!

Hands down. Sure I used to enjoy Simpsons, but I really don't find them that funny anymore. They've lost a certain...appeal. Family Guy still manages to make me laugh, although there are some episodes that I find a bit crap.

Edit: Just to reiterate, I voted for "Fmily" Guy =p

This poll would get much different results depending on where you asked it. Anyone born before 1990 who says Family Guy is dead to me.

It genuinely surprises me that Family Guy can even be considered in the same breath as The Simpsons. As The Captain said, based purely on the way they paved the way for everything after them The Simpsons is the hands down winner. Also, The Simpsons was only good for an absolute maximum of 10 seasons (and even then I personally would only say about 6), and it is still the king. That should prove how good of a show it was in its prime.

Neither. I absolutely hate Family Guy, and Simpsons hasn't been good for the last 10-15 years.

So that's happening.

I like them both.

I like Futurama more than both of them though.

Phew, I'm a 1990 baby so I can get away with it.

I grew up with The Simpsons and honestly, never really much cared for it. I just... didn't find it really funny. It had it's moments, but ultimately it was like 'Friends' with me: occasionally funny, on repeat till the apocalypse, treasured by all. As for Family Guy, I still love that show. Yes, some of the episodes are objectively crap, and it hasn't been the best since season six, but there's just something about it that keeps me watching, and more importantly, laughing.

The Simpsons. At least it had a great eight or so years of episodes.

Family Guy was tolerable until you realized what crappy, lazy, "referencing random pop culture icons and labeling it humor" it was.

They're both worse than ever right now though.

While the Simpsons have been in a slump since forever, they had a way longer quality period than Family Guy did, and The Simpson's highs were way better than Family Guy's highs on top of that.

I chose both, because @ some point they were good shows. Now, they could both GTFO.

Today is the anniversary of the first episode of South Park. 17 years of genius. Not a perfect run, but damn near close. The Simpsons might've given us 7 great years, Family Guy was @ best a good show, but neither of these two could sniff South Park's jockstrap.

I prefer The Simpsons over Family Guy, but I prefer Futurama over both of them!

Simpsons easily, I'm easily amused (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZp2QdSt48) I don't find Family Guy in the least bit entertaining.

Both of them were once funny; neither are funny now; The Simpsons was funnier than Family Guy and funny for a lot longer. So The Simpsons by far.
