Has anyone taken any of these free classes (https://www.coursera.org/)? I signed up for Think again: How to Reason and Argue (https://www.coursera.org/course/thinkagain) from Duke University and Imagining Other Earths (https://www.coursera.org/course/otherearths) from Princeton.

They are free courses that are offered through various institutions. School is expensive and learning is important so why not make them free! Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/)offers classes through various places for free.

I'ma learn how to argue about space. :colbert:

Has anyone ever done these? What was your experience? Free knowledge, yay or nay?

I haven't done or heard of Coursera. So I am going to check it out now before finishing this post.

Ok. It seems pretty neat. Actual timed and taught courses. I signed up for Dino 101: Dinosaur Paleobiology.

I also use Khan Academy fairly regularly. I'm relearning math at my own pace at Khan. Also some history and eventually some biology.

I signed up for a Social Issues Through Comic Books course at Canvas.net (https://www.canvas.net/). I did not actually participate in the course, so no, I've never taken a free online course before. I did, however, continue to get many, many emails throughout the session of the course because I was too lazy to unsubscribe. The instructors seem very involved and active with their students.

They have some neat courses to sign up for now, notably the Minecraft for Educators, Getting Started With MinecraftEDU, Mars: The Next Frontier and Google Ninja courses. I am eyeballing The World Columbian Exposition one, though, I'll tell you that. H. H. Holmes went on his serial killing spree during the World's Fair in 1893, so I would be super stoked to take this course :hyper:

I would take a Star Trek course.

I take those all the time. It's called watching Star Trek. =P

No, I've never taken these courses. I'm an idiot, and pay for my education.

Seems cool, looking into it.

I don't know if it was associated with this Coursera thing, but about a year ago my brother posted a link to a video/lecture archive from Yale where you can effective take an entire course on astrophysics by watching them. I never got around to it, but it is bookmarked! Free learning is awesome

First I heard of it. Not really interested in looking any further into it.

I hav re heard of this and other sites that aggregate free online classes, but I find myself wondering if there are transferable credits.
